Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I think it varies from sculpt to sculpt for me. I don't have a particular style I favor over the other. Volks was what propelled me into this hobby, so I guess I do pay more attention to their dolls and their events. Granted, I don't like everything they've made - and it's hard for me to feel compelled enough to get one. I'm not a rabid fan, and do wish I had enough money to collect dolls from other companies I like though. Just haven't got the "MUST HAVE" signal yet. But it seems style/type doesn't play a huge factor for me there.

    2. I think I settle towards the middle but leaning towards stylized. I often find stylized dolls are actually more lifelike/alive to my eyes than realistic sculpts. As much as I adore Iplehouse, which I think still are pretty stylized, I do get a little frustrated with all the small eyewells that come with smaller, more proportionate eyes. I really love beautiful urethane eyes, and I want to clearly see them and enjoy them.

    3. I too love Carina. A lot. But she'd be so outta place next to my morant and hopefully my new doll ill get next month. If I had a sabik..then id get her in an instant. they'd be great together i think

    4. I started off liking the more anime style BJDs but as I browsed more doll shops, I realized I love realistic sculpts way more. @@ (Specifically, after I saw Iplehouse EIDs.)
Now, dolls that catch my eye are more realistic looking and I can't seem to really appreciate the anime styled dolls anymore.

    5. I used to like anime style long way ago but now I like realistic style like SOOM and Iplehouse.

After a lot of trial and error, I found I can't stand to have ballon head dolls, super large eyes or strange proportion body so anime style not suit me but I don't like dolls that look too much like human either.

    6. Realisitc. :D I like the anime style as well. It's cute and charicterised. However, the realistic ones like at iplehouse are AMAZING! I LOVE those. Their features are so marvelous. They can be cute and sexy at the same time. the anime style dolls really can't be sexy... but that's just my opinion! lol :fangirl:
Some of my friends have anime ones and their fun to take pictures of but I would never want him. ^^'

    7. I like and own all sides of the spectrum when it comes to these aesthetics (highly-stylized
& more “human-looking”), but I think I prefer my larger male sculpts to be either highly realistic
or (human) hyper/photo-realistic, if at all possible . I love anime and anime features,
but I think I prefer those aesthetics in smaller sized-dolls (maybe even prefer them
in non BJD-type dolls). What can I say, love angular masculine faces, narrow-shaped
“believable-proportioned eyes,” strong jaws and real-looking noses. ^.~

    8. I definitely prefer the more realistic sculpts, but I like them to be a LITTLE stylized. My one and only doll is a Migidoll Ryu, so...that's about the level of realism I like best. I do like some dolls that are more realistic (Iplehouse) or a little less realistic (Souldoll), but Ryu hits my ideal balance.

    9. lol i thought more people would like the anime style. Almost all my friends who have a BJD are anime styled. With the exception of one! :D and that's my favorite doll!

    10. @Tragedy & @Shunshun
OMG! REALLY??? Carina's already been mentioned?? haha That's awesome! She is WAY too perfect and is 100% my type. I've fallen in love with her and I'm seriously thinking about saving up to buy her. She is too tempting not to! :D

    11. I suppose I perfer more real-life human styled? Although I do like anime, but I really don't like those BJDs with anime-huge eyes. That's why I definately will not get Volk's DD...

    12. I like my dolls to be dolls, although I love the action figure look of my FL Chic-line El. The realistic looking dolls are the ones I like to admire pictures of, but I have noticed I don't really like to own them. I guess I like to play more with doll-like dolls. :sweat

    13. I prefer the realistic department rather than the anime/stylized look, but unfortunately there are just a very few companies whom do -seriously- work upon this kind of look on bjds.

    14. I think I'm in between... I love anime-style but not as too Dollfie Dreams
I somehow liked Iplehouse, but I think they have more serious human features
I prefer Crobidoll, if I were still to pic realistic mature sculpts, as what you have said ^___^
Know I have DOC, Lati and Bluefairy, they are not that fantasy-like dolls, but not so realistic either...

    15. I really dislike the realistic dolls and find their proportions to be really unattractive.

My collection consists of stylized sculpts, and I have in the past sold large dolls upon immediately discovering they took 12mm or smaller eyes. I just don't like the look. I find now, after 7 years in the hobby, I am actually really hankering for a Dollfie Dream. I think my biggest wishlist doll right now would be for Volks to release a resin DD. That would be amazing.

    16. Dollstown, Narin, Lumedoll, Volks, Souldoll, Elfdoll, Oasis, Leeke, Supia, Limwha, Unidoll, all of these do realistic sculpts and that is just off the top of my head. I know I could add ten more to that list no problem.
I like both, actually I like super stylized, a bit, and very realistic. All of them have their charm.
My favorite anime sculpts right now are Shinydoll's Chizune and Lina.
Oh yes Kim, I'd be right behind you on that lottery list if Volks did that.

    17. On one hand, what I like. I like both styles. I think there are great BJD of both of them. On the other hand, what I like the most/prefer to the point of wanting to own mine. Ten of my twelve BJD, many of them CP Luts Delfs, are One Piece manga and anime series already given characters so definitely anime style in my case. I did not think deeply about it. It just happened that way. My other two BJD, which are own creation characters, are MiniFée so they go on that same line. The curious thing happened when I started becoming hybrids a few of my BJD. One got an Iplehouse muscle type YID boy body and other two a Unidoll Uni Real boy Body, in the case of a boy, and a Unidoll Uni Real girl Body, in the case of a girl. This last one is still on the process of being a hybrid. The real fact is I got those bodies for them to follow their anime body proportions.

    18. I like some stylized faces, but I prefer slightly more realistic if it's a MSD or SD. On tinys I prefer cute stylized faces actually. However, I really don't like the actual 'anime' style faces like most dolfies have, with the thin line for a mouth, rectangle eyes and tiny triangle nose. I'm not saying they're bad, it's just not something I'd ever buy. I also don't like Volks for that reason, just too close too anime for my taste. Small mouth, small nose, huge eyes.

    19. I like Iplehouse Freezia and I think the tan DollZone Kay is adorable...so I guess you could say I like more realistic sculpts? Honestly, I am still figuring out what I like...
