Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I like Iplehouse dolls very very much, but the more stylized or semi realistic dolls are equally beautiful to me. Only the extremely anime-like ones kinda bother me.

    2. I love a combination of both, but either extreme makes it difficult for me to like them. For instance, I find myself disliking some of the Elfdoll sculpts because they look too much like people, and some of the Volks sculpts (especially the ones with the extremely tiny/thin noses/lips) because they're too cartoonish.

    3. I would prefer the anime-looking type of bjd. ^^

    4. I like both styles but I'm more drawn to the more realistic sculpts.

    5. hmm... this is a good question! because as far as art is concerned, I really prefer realism and dislike big eyed anime... however, I do really like the soft look that many of the Asian BJDs with their cute little bigs eyes have... and I feel like the more realistic looking BJD boys end up looking like giant Ken dolls or GI Joes >>; so the asian face thing is kind of cemented with my idea of what a BJD should look like

    6. i tend to like the anime style more although i wouldnt really consider it "anime". i like the cute kinda style but with a realistic faceup or styling. its kinda hard to explain. really, only the extreme anime looking dolls bother me, e.g Volks.

    7. I'm all for realism. Iplehouse, Elfdoll and the like :love I do like some more stylized sculpts (eg. Minifee Shushu with her huge eyes is super cute), but the actual anime styled ones are not my thing at all.

    8. I always go for "anime" styled dolls, but I don't think of them in terms of anime as I know nothing about it! I just think of them as more stylized. I much prefer them in terms of dolls to the more realistic look as I want my dolls to look like dolls. I want them to look "alive" but not human, so their life comes from the expressiveness and the naturalness of their posing, rather than the sculpting. Don't get me wrong, I love looking at realistic dolls, but I don't want to own any!

    9. I'm not so into realism that I'd go for a minimee or similarly realistic sculpt, but I like that happy medium where Bermanns, Narae, Elfdolls, and a few other sculpts are. So I guess it's "semirealism" for me.

    10. I like both, my favorite style is some were in the middle, like a realalistic doll with elf ears. But if I had to chose I would go with realistic.

    11. I'm more into the realistic dolls. I love anime-style, I collect anime figures as a fairly large-scale side hobby. However, anime doesn't seem to translate well to dolls, from my own perspective. I recently got an Azone anime doll and unfortunately I just did not like her.

    12. For girls, I like the anime look ^^ ... and for boys realistic :whee:

    13. Personally, I love both. I love anime and I love regular bjds(realistic or semi). I would like to own a variety of dolls from obistsu, SQ Lab, Volks Dollfie Dream, and of course normal bjd brands like DOD, Fairyand, DC, ect. It all depends on the person's taste on what they like. Some people just strictly own Dollfie dreams, some buy strictly VOLKS MSDs or SDs ( just examples).

    14. I love both. Right now I am saving for a volks Dollfie Dream and a Migidoll Ryu, which are on opposite sides of the spectrum.

    15. I guess whatever Dream Of Doll, Doll Chateau Fits under. I also like mini fee kyle. I can't say I like many sculpts yet. The two company's I listed there are a few. Does not mean I can't enjoy or like the look of other sculpts just not all I would want to own personally.

Nothing I said though is set in stone I change my mind a lot. :)

    16. I'm not really a big fan of 'anime' looking dolls (like dollfie dream), but prefer dolls that are more abstract and surreal, like illustrations. I guess I prefer more realistic looking facial features rather than the anime's cute and cheerful faces. :)

    17. I find myself more and more falling in love to bjds from not asiatishe artists ... I also love not standart dolls and elven ears is my weakness

    18. Every once in a while, when I see a dolfie dream, I can't help thinking how cute they are! But I don't think I'd ever get one so very anime-styled. That would just be too much. And their expression never changes...they just look stupidly happy all the time.

    19. I love a mix of both maybe? I can see beauty in both style too. I love my body well proportionated, but with a bit of that "anime" flavor like long legs, soft features and svelte but voluptuous body for female. But I really like dolls with an artistic style like Doll-Chateau.

    20. I'm more inclined towards anime style things since I have such a deep fascination with anime and japanese in general. it's sorta like why anime drew me away from normal cartoons with their quite frankly boring characters and plots. their big eyes i guess are dreamy? they're big and colorful and put me into a daze. So that's translated into anime BJDs so far in my doll career. However it is in the thought process that I would sometime later want a realistic doll.
