Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I tend to prefer the more "anime" style dolls although I do love more realistic bodies ;) I just find them much more cuter and I guess it fits my doll family much better :kitty2 Although I still find the more realistic dolls gorgeous and amazing but for some reason I just cannot bring myself to buy one. They just do not adhere to me that way :sweat But I love seeing other people's pictures of them :kitty1

    2. I'm slowly turning into an Iplehouse collector because I've been so amazed by their aesthetics since I got my Claude, but there are some sculpts I like from slightly more anime-like companies (Ducan and Adolph from Dream of Doll; Cherry and Dion from LUTS).

    3. And I prefer only a realistic dolls.
And for me the ideal in this kind is minimee !

    4. I definitely prefer more realistic dolls. Can't really explain why, but it probably has something to do with the level of artistic detail. I really appreciate the skill it takes to create realistic-looking art.

    5. i have a strange taste to be in this hobby- i see a lot of dolls like the pointed nose, petite features and delicate mouths.
But i really like button and fat noses, more pronounced lips, and large ears, with huge cheeks! For this reason i think i like the Real Pukis, they really fit the style i like.
      I dont have a RealPuki or anything- in my ideal world i could have the ability to make my own BJD combining the styles ;3;
Maybe when i get proper permissions on the forums then i could see about custom services and order my own dolls!

    6. My last post was exactly 2 years ago while I owned different dolls than I do now (BJDs that I no longer even own). I did mention lovin the Dollfie Dreams

I've found that after 5 years, the "realistic" look isn't for me. I have the hardest time bonding with a doll that isn't a Dollfie Dream @_@. My former dolls have been no where near realistic per se, but more so than DDs . I think there is a line where I personally wouldn't get a "realistic" doll. About where MNM are. I don't want a little person.

    7. I think I like both sides on the spectrum on this one. While I do prefer a more stylized approach to all my dolls, I have to admit either side has their good sides in terms of aesthetics. While the character of one doll may require them to look more anime style than say... a doll that was meant to mirror a real life person. It all depends on what you have in mind for the doll you want to create, and something that I really like about this hobby is that you can make it as cartoon-like or as realistic as you would like.

    8. Realistic dolls all the way here.
I just can't seem to bond with anime styled dolls. They don't have to be super realistic all the time, but I don't think I'll ever get an anime doll. Simply can't bother with them.
I really enjoy making my dolls look realistic and like real persons, and I simply wouldn't be able to do that with a doll who doesn't look like a human styled doll at all.

    9. i like both :) but if i had to choose it be more of the realistic ones. but since i do not own a BJD yet i can only tell by pictures that i see.

    10. This really depends on the dolls! Some of them are just great when they look like...well, dolls, and some are really great as humans!
But... As for my doll family, they all somehow look rather realistic. So, guess, I can tell that close to life dolls are more preferable for me)

    11. I love the ones that are detailed and more matured. I like SDs with detailed stomach, back, color bone, the neck. . . I loooove the Iplehouse's dainty hands.

    12. The first doll I ever fell in love with was more anime like.. but it's strange as time went on I found the ones that look more real more beautiful... I guess it's just a matter of opinion.

    13. I tend to like the realistic ones more. funny thing is taht i am taking one of my realistic ones and will be sending her out to turn her into my favorite character from ergo proxy. life imitating art lol!

    14. I'm open to realism,and animetic.
I noticed i typically fall for dolls with LARGER eyes and a SMALLER mouth though.

    15. I like both, but I seem to be drawn to dolls with pointed ears and a fae quality. I think my ideal doll would be probably something with iplehouse's aesthetic and pointed ears, I find fairyland's FeePlee65's pretty close.

    16. I like both. Some of the characters I would like to dress up are quite whimsical, and others are more photorealistic. I also like some anime and making a BJD of a character would be more affordable than making a me-size cosplay.

    17. I love real life, elf style, zombie, frankenstein, centaur, or ones with hooves and even scorpion tales but i'm not a big fan of anime. Some of them are cute though, I'm sure I'd get one if the right one came along. :)

    18. I started off leaning more towards realistic dolls (Well as realistic as Luts delfs can get), but as the years have passed and I've fallen deeper into the anime world (I'm a big anime figure collector now) I've turned more towards anime styled dolls. I now have 2 Volks dollfie dreams with a 3rd on layaway. And currently my entire wishlist has turned to dollfie dreams.

    19. I love realistic dolls. My goal when I'm painting them and when I take pictures of them, I strive to make them look as human as possible. I think that's the kind of magic they can hold. Now, I know they're dolls, but for my photography, if I can fool the viewer, then I've done my job.

    20. I will not even consider an sd if it has big eyes or a round face. Which is why I will not buy any Dod, volks, or Aod dolls. My favorite companies are dreaming dolls, Spirit Dolls, and Soul dolls. They are all so beautiful! ^^
