Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. For the longest time I had only ever seen the anime-like dolls in pictures here on DoA. They kinda creeped me out with their massive eyes. Last month, though, I saw one of those dolls for the first time in person. They're cute, but the eyes are still weird to me, and they have MASSIVE chests. >.> (not that I have a doll to compare to; all of mine are boys) I do prefer the more realistic sculpts. I find that they look better in photos.

    2. I like both types, and think that they're both beautiful. However, I prefer the anime style. The dolls I have fall into this category, with their huge eyes and other stylized features. I can't really see myself owning a more realistically faced doll. I've seen them in person and was stunned at how beautiful they were, but they weren't quite for me.

    3. I have a liking for soft, smooth features, so I tend to go with more 'anime styled' dolls with them. I love the larger eyes, small noes and rounded cheeks look! I can admire dolls with more sharp features, like elegantly carved cheek bones and a very distinct personality to there sculpt, but I can not see myself owning one of them.

    4. I like more realistic, but still stylized sculpts. Overly-anime faces with eyes taking up half the face and a painted-on mouth kind of bother me. Sure, my dolls have big eyes and large heads, but they still kind of look realistic in the own way. Kind of more Studio Ghibli-anime looking than shōjo anime, if that makes sense.

    5. i like both too so i try for a look that settles somewhere in between. :sweat

    6. I like both equally, especially Dollfie Dreams and SQ labs dolls as well, I hope to buy one in the future UvU

    7. I definitely prefer more realistic, or more lightly stylized. I'm perfectly fine with a lot of doll faces, but some have a strange/unrealistic nose, or eyes that go past the sockets should-be location, which is just very strange to me, as if it was cut open. I have seen some cute ones, and they are ok until a certain point. A good sculptor definitely makes a much more appealing face, so I guess those with more experience in doing that kind of face would produce better results, by my view.

    8. I prefer the realistic, though I have respect for the anime ones too ^^ I think the anime look in a doll is very hard to get right. Many I have seen look... off to me. Even if they have the general anime style something about them doesn't seem right to me

    9. I like realistic dolls more. The anime style dolls seem more like "figures" to me than ball-jointed-dolls. Now, I think they are absolutely stunning and when I was younger I would have killed for one but when I think about the price I would not spent it on a doll that looks like an anime figure.

I hope I'm not offending someone, this is only my opinion ^^

    10. I really like both styles :) if my dolls weren't going to be in a story together, I would probably get some of both. I just had to settle on somewhere in the middle if I wanted them to look cohesive though.

    11. in spite of the fact that i'm anime lover, i prefer the realistic dolls. one of the reason that I fell in love with BJD cause they look like real people.

    12. I like realistic dolls, but I would add one doll anime to my collection :)

    13. I like realistic ones though I do quite like cute elfy ears :love

    14. I'm a good anime fan, but I don't generally like too much stylized anime art. When talking of dolls, I enjoy more the realistic style, but there are some anime style dolls that really tempt me (mainly the big Obitsu or some Dollfie Dream...) and a couple of my off topic dolls are really anime styled.

    15. I lean towards realistic dolls, but with stylized features; you know, like big eyes and little mouths, but not "anime style". You know? (*´ω`*)

    16. In my opinion i really dont like Dolfies and such. I kind of find them creepy!! But if you enjoy them then go for it but i definitely like the realistic dolls more!

    17. I like both!

    18. Both *___*/ but If I really have to choose, probably the anime style ♥ as long as you don't overdo it, like volks >< I don't like them so much.

    19. I like both but if I really needed to choose then realistic. :'>

    20. I thought I would enjoy the anime style, so I purchased a Dollfie Dream Dynamite. I soon realized I wasn't so in love with her, so I sold her. I like the real looking dolls. And fantasy ones.
