Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. My first doll is dollfie dream. And my last doll will be dollfie dream. I can get weirded out by some realistic looking dolls.
I would love to own a BJD boy though.

    2. I love human looking sculpts. But I love some Volks doll too.

    3. Realistic dolls definitely. When I first saw them I wasn't that interested because the guys were either too girly or anime like. Then I accidentally stumbled across IOS, Soom and finally Iplehouse. So now I have an EID and an ID72 and am saving up for more. I'm not against the more girly sculpts since my next two will be SD17. But I definitely prefer realistic sculpts.

    4. I prefer realistic dolls as well. They look so gorgeous and beautiful in the pictures. Despite how much I love anime, I wouldn't get an anime type doll. They are cute but can't be considered beautiful like realistic dolls

    5. It wasn't until I found Iplehouse I first got interested in the hobby. Up until then I had only seen pictures of anime type dolls which really didn't speak to me. I like anime and I read manga, but in dolls I have absolutely no interest in that sort of sculpt. I can find some of them cool, if executed in a nice way, but I myself won't ever be getting one.

    6. Hmmm. I started this hobby with Luts Delfs and their stylized look. I love them because they're like 3D anime characters. But over the years I've come to love the realistic look, as well. I've got a Dollmore model and a Trinity, an Iplehouse, and several Soom sculpts. Although, the Soom can't really be considered realistic, given they're all fantasy creatures. I love that they have more realistic features, though, to counter the horns and hooves and wings. And just gorgeous bodies all around. I've also got a ton of Fairyland dolls, as well, some of which are in-between. And then there is my Dollfie Dream and Obitsu, which are definitely anime-inspired.

With stylized and realistic I love one just as much as the other. It definitely gives my (rather substantial) collection a lot of variety, which is part of what makes this hobby so enjoyable!

    7. I like stylised realism. But I'm not a fan of the anime dolls. I feel like they look adorable in 2d, but lack soul, or just seem kind of weird to me in 3d. I also prefer the lips and eyes on realistic dolls. Thin slit mouths and giant eyes look weird with the face ups that I like best.

    8. I prefer the more realistic sculpts over the anime look. One of the things I love about bjd's is how elegant and realistic they can look and the anime eyes seem to take away from that effect. I do not really mind if the sculpt it's self is a bit stylized but it still have to appear more human then anything else.

    9. I definitely prefer realistic dolls myself. In my mind, my characters are real people, not anime characters, so I like to find sculpts to fit them. I tried owning a couple of anime style dolls (a mini Dollfie Dream and an SQ Labs chibi) but they just didn't fit in with the rest of my crew, cute as they were. I also find anime-style sculpts too similar to one another. There's none of the individuality that fully sculpted noses, lips and chins bring to more realistic faces.

    10. I would like a sculpt that can be anime style and realistic style since I don't like how a realistic eye watching me when I sleep. But sometimes just anime style alone is boring so I like something that can be those two :)

    11. I think I like a mixture of both? I don't want something that looks like a BJD version of an anime figure or gashapon (like Volks) but I also don't want them looking too real either (like Iple). A nice in between, like Luts' style, is what I prefer.

    12. Definitely realistic looking dolls, no doubt about it.

I don't know why, but something about anime-esque BJDs irks me so much, I don't like them at all. They rarely look good, and their eyes make them look dead. Too boring and weird for my taste. Plus most people get them with enormously sized breasts that are bigger than their heads. Doesn't look normal, doesn't look attractive. She could be wearing the most beautiful dress and yet those boobs would just ruin the whole thing. I guess it's because I got over my love for anime, it's just too fake and weird for me now.

Realistic ones are the way to go, haha!

    13. I personally prefer the ones that are more or less in the middle. Sculpts like Volks or SQLabs, while cute, aren't anything that fits into what I want from a doll, they're too stylized in that direction. On the other hand, I don't want sculpts that are super-realistic (and there aren't a lot of those available in the smaller scales anyway), though again, I love looking at them. The middle ground stylization fits my tastes for ownership the best, though I'll look at photos of the full spectrum.

    14. I prefer realistic sculpts. In fact that is what drew me to the hobby ... I discovered Iplehouse ... much to the chagrin of my credit card. :) I like some of the middle of the road fantasy dolls (ie Soom) as well. I'm not crazy about the anime type with the big eyes, although I do enjoy seeing seeing owner photos and the customizations.

    15. Something in between, I like big eyes dolls, but still realistic, I don't like the anime-styled eyes, but slightly anime-like features? I'm not sure if that makes sense!! :D

    16. I think the anime dolls are super cute looking, however I think I'd only ever own a real life looking doll. I feel there is more of a bond with him/her.

    17. I like both styles, but mostly fantasy/anime-style with bigger eyes etc :)

    18. This would describe me exactly xD All my dolls are a mixture of real/anime.

    19. I got in this by a anime style BJD but I have noticed I am more in to female all together... and realistic looking... I do want to get a anime style hinata from naruto... because I absolutely love hinata's character.

    20. There is no hesitation for me : I prefer Anime style dolls !
Realistic sculpts are boring to me... they don't surprise me, and it is like if the sculptor had not much imagination when he did it...
And same when I have to paint them : Anime style or fantasy style dolls are inspiring, I always have more ideas for Anime style dolls than for realistic ones ^^
