Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I really adore the real life human style. I think for me it's because of the creep factor. More people get freaked out by the real looking ones than the anime ones. It's a lot of fun having friends walk into my room and get freaked out or unnerved by my doll just sitting in my room, you know, just chillin. : ) I really love any of them, because I think it's a beautiful form of art, but I really do just have an unnatural urge to get reactions out of people. :3 Naughty me.

    2. I definitely prefer more realistic faces. I think the bigger the eyes, the more put off by the sculpt I am.

    3. I seem to have the same taste in dolls as Uctie.
My biggest problem with most dolls is that their eyes (holes) are so big that it looks like they end at their ears XD.
I like the face to be more "proportionate".
I do enjoy looking at some big eyed or manga-esk sculpts, but they don't appeal enough to me to want to buy them or look at them for the rest of my life :).
But I know that tastes differ and that people can change. So who knows... Maybe one day I'll buy a doll no one would expect me to :p.

    4. I definitely like more realistic features. Iplehouse Cecile already owns my heart. I love Luts and Fairyland though. I really dont like the typical anime eyes and small mouth. I'm not a fan of Volks either.

    5. I have had both anime and real style dolls, and Ive decided I prefer the anime type. It just seems more fitting to my style of characters.

    6. I prefer anime faces to realistic faces, but that's probably because I love anime & manga. I find that if the doll looks too realistic, it kinda creeps me out a little :sweat

    7. I like both, and collect both. Though anime looking dolls are really hard to find the good looking ones.. sometimes they're just...i don't know, feels off.
But I like it if the face is not too realistic, just a little touch of anime-ish to the faces . Like volks does! Sometimes their noses are a bit small, and small mouths as well. Bigger eyes , etc.

    8. I would say I like both, but not too real-like. I enjoy semi-real, I enjoy anime. I like watching different photos of different dolls and styles but would get more anime-like, I think.

    9. I like the more anime-styled dolls for the most part, though I think that I am more concerned with how mature they look rather anything else. I’ve always wanted an adult style doll, but I dislike some of the more realistic sculpts because I don’t really feel that they follow the aesthetic somehow. It’s hard to explain but some kind of come off looking more like giant action figures to me (the male ones anyhow). Sorry if that is confusing.

    10. I like the realistic ones but is it strange to say I prefer more Asian sculpted to western/Nordic sculpted. Something about the noses I think...

    11. I am also prefering more human-like dolls. Volks' Chii is only anime-styled one I like (and that's because of the character she's modelled after).

    12. I prefer the more anime-styled bjd because they're usually so cute, Luts and Fairy Land are favourites here. However my grail doll at the moment is an Iplehouse B.I.D. doll which is far more realistic I guess. I am not a real fan of the Volks sculpts but I do love the clothing they release for them. I guess it's not really about the brand or the fact that it is realistic or not for me. I tend to pay more attention to the sculpt to see what potential it might have as a character of mine.

    13. I like a mixture of both... So they have to have big eyes and look kawaii but still somehow realistic. As for Volks they are for me way too much anime-like, but they are sweet to look at :)

    14. Anime styled dolls :)

    15. I personally prefer the more "realistic" looking dolls. I use them as muses whenever I draw or sculpt. I prefer something that, with a touch of paint or any medium, can turn them into something "real," or at least, something that looks real. While I do adore the stylized or anime style dolls, I prefer vinyl or Monster High dolls rather than ball-jointed ones for them. It seems more fitting to me, at least.

My favorite company is Iplehouse. I love how they sculpt their dolls. Even when blank, the make of the mold looks realistic and finely sculpted. The only anime-styled doll I once owned is a FairyLand Minifee. She was really adorable, so I gave in and bought her. She was a fun muse with her happy smile and wide eyes.

    16. I used to love the more anime-like ones, but the lifelike ones grew on me quickly. If I had to pick, I would choose the more life-like ones.

    17. Hmm, I guess I would prefer the more human styled ones. I love anime dolls, but I don't know if I would want a whole collection of that style. I would always pick the more realistic looking ones. I love details in the sculpt. :)

    18. Most of my girls tend to be more stylized -- e.g. CP Delf Lishe, Elfdoll Soah, but my boys seem to be more realistic, half are MIM of real people.

    19. I don't know if I would say strictly anime/manga/Japanese influence per-say, but my dolls do tend to have a stylized, animated, comic book feel to them, because that's where my talent lies as a faceup artist and designer. However it would be difficult to pick a favorite as I absolutely love realism in dolls as well. There are few things more amusing than mistaking a doll portrait for a picture of a real person, then slowly coming to realize the little details, like the glassy quality of the eyes, or any hints of joints. I suppose my tastes do tend to veer towards the more unrealistic, but I like a nice blend of proportionate and downright bizarre in my resin. Makes for good visual variation, don't'cha know.

    20. I prefer more life like human styled bjd because they are easier to style them. No offense, I don't really like those anime eyes though I love watching anime because they just looked like sticker decals on their eyes :sweat Especially the guys, I love to look at their face with those nice abs :love

Personally, I think every one of them has a beautiful side and just happens that I prefer human like ones XD
