It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I also like a mixture of both. I prefer realistic style but I like big eyes. Luts kids and tiny are my favourites.

    2. I prefer the more human looking ones but I love anime and definitely want at least one that looks very anime.

    3. I like the realistic look, like mini renaissance sculpts:aheartbea I admire dollshe and iplehouse's realism.

    4. I usually prefer a realistic style, but these days I am leaning more and more toward anime style. Their cuteness calls to me.

    5. I've loved BJDs for so many years now (many of those years longing from afar!), that I've gone through many phases. I can't say I prefer one type anymore. For months, I'll obsess over the full-on anime look of Dollfie Dreams. Then I'll go back to looking primarily at realistic sculpts. Iplehouse is a perennial favorite. But my Mystic Kids doll is one of the more in-between, leaning-anime styles, and I adore her.

I do find that, the more time I spend in the hobby, the more I'm looking for a doll with that little something extra or unusual. Like the extreme lips on Switch dolls, or the Koitsukihime look of Alice in Labyrinth. Whereas when I first discovered BJD, I only wanted that traditional Dollfie look. I do think a "blended," slightly anime look appeals to a lot of people. It's not so stylized that some find it off-putting. And sometimes people find a super-realistic sculpt unnerving, especially if they're not doll people.

But I do find that if a doll is too anime-looking, I might find it attractive, but less appealing long-term. Maybe because more realistic dolls are more complex, and can seem to change expression depending on angles and lighting.

    6. I like those that are a mix of anime and real. More real but not too real. Fariyland would be realistic but the eyes are too big. So I like them. I need actual noses and mouths on my dolls, otherwise I'd go the full anime route. I love the anime type eyes. Hopefully a company will produce an anime doll with sculpted lips and noses.

Btw if anyone knows of a company that does the flat anime eye type with an actual nose and mouth structure. PLEASE PM ME AND TELL ME. I will love you for all time

    7. Well I like dolls that don't have painted on anime-eyes and that aren't too human like. Pretty boys are my style (like prince and princess type) ^^;

    8. Hmm.. Considering all the companies and dolls I've browsed through, I really only find realistic-style appealing. The anime-styles are cute, but I don't think I would buy one for myself.

    9. I tend to like dolls that have a more whimsical and unrealistic look to them,at the same time though I can easily say that I find more realistic dolls to be the most beautiful though I don't see myself ever owning one.
As for an actual anime style doll...I was very interested in Dollfie Dreams before but owning one is not a priority in the hobby for me right now,I still think they are pretty cute though.

    10. I'd have to say anime, but I can cover up to Dollshe I guess. Not a big fan of realistic looking dolls, they remind me of a particularity where I've had bad experience.

    11. I tend to prefer them more realistic looking. I'm not sure as to why I don't like the anime style ones too much. I can just never see myself owning one.

    12. I think the anime-styled dolls are really cute, just not my style. I might own one some day if I find one particularly cute, but I personally prefer the more realistic sculpted dolls!

    13. I prefer more human but I must confessed that I like some anime doll too : I don't have one but perhaps one day a little yosd anime doll : why not ?

    14. I love realistic/stylized realism sculpts! It's easier for me to portray my characters this way, though I wouldn't be opposed to owning an anime doll someday!

    15. I like both style. I can't choose one side :love

    16. I like the realistic dolls more than the anime style, but I prefer fantasy animal dolls over both!

    17. mmmmmmmmmmm I like fantasy dolls but Every time the more realistic possible, they are a diferent fantasy creatures with animal parts.

    18. When I saw the title I thought the OP meant anime, like looks like an anime character. And I've seen those and they look cute, but lack detail it seems and I wouldn't want to spend so much money on a doll that looks like that. But wouldn't mind a less expensive doll. But with the clarifcation, the less realistic looking ones, I definitely prefer that and don't see that I would ever get an overly realistic looking doll.

    19. I don't like anime style, it looks kinda bland and fake, I prefer realistic... also can't stand the heavy make-up most companies go for nowadays, which means if I ever buy another doll I'll definitely order it without the face-up

    20. I'm pretty sure my first doll will be a more realistic one, as even close to being a real small person as possible x3 But I never say never...
