Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I like a mixture of the two. I admire the more realistic dolls, but I haven't yet felt that instant bond.

    2. I think it depends on the type of character or personality I have in mind. My more cutesy and extroverted characters I usually pick anime styled sculpts for them and for my more serious, introverted characters I prefer a realistic sculpt I think.

    3. I prefer realistic sculpts, was never really attracted to the super anime dolls like Dollfie Dream etc. The new sculpts from Dollshe are pretty amazing (5th motif and 28M classic) and very realistic!

    4. I like a nice mix of both! :) but overall I'm more on the anime side I guess. I can't take heavy anime styled ones though.

    5. I love looking at pictures of the japanese anime style dolls but I don't ever buy them. I guess im more attracted to the Korean/Chinese doll look which is slightly manga based in body proportions but realistic in every other aspect. still I could look at owners pics of sqlab and dolfie dream for hours.

    6. I prefer a real-life human styled bjd more than their animated counterparts.
However, I can't deny the fact that "anime style" bjd sometimes appeal to me.

    7. I'm not gonna lie, I actually really don't like Dollfie Dream Dolls, but other Dollfies are fine. I prefer semi-realistic and somewhat stylized dolls. I am definitely good with dolls that have anime characteristics, but not ok with dolls that are literally anime completely.

    8. I always liked realism, and it was an universal quality for me: I looked at the art piece and considered its level of realism. When I came into BJD hobby Iplehouse just released their Akando, though I chose a Soom Lazule. Both were pretty realistic. And it was a hard time for me because I wanted MOAR REALISM! Hopefully, some companies went that path, and the animeish horde is a bit diluted with a more realistic dolls, like Granado, Popodoll, some Dikadoll molds, surely Iplehouse, etc. DollShe and 5th motif made a great bodies and molds, very realistic.
Now I sculpt the dolls by myself, how I want them, how I think it's proper to do.

    9. I like both good realistic sculpt and beautifully stylized proportions as well. What I don't really like right know is something in the middle of them XD!

    10. I'm not huge on the completely anime look (tiny noses, huge sparkly eyes, itty bitty mouths), but 100% realistic doesn't really sit well with me either. I guess you could say I prefer a kind of stylized realism. One of my dreams is to someday own a Dollshe! >.< My aesthetic will probably become more defined with time and experience, so we'll see if I can still say the same thing five years from now.

    11. In complete agreement with Xweetara. It's hard to say, but I'm not too fond of those excessively anime-looking BJDs. I prefer them as figurines instead. RL-types don't sit well with me either, but that may change in the future, who knows?

    12. half and half~~ because I like their faces (which is more anime look) but I like to dress them and pose them very naturally...

    13. The more real life human ones. It's not that the anime ones aren't cute, and a lot of the less realistic ones I certainly do enjoy, but they just don't interest me like the more real life ones. Part of the reason why I enjoy these dolls so much is because of the amazing detail the artists are able to put into them and some of them look like genuine people. Looking at them, I could swear that they even have thoughts on their mind. I love the work of companies like Granado. Their dolls are so life-like and it's incredible how someone can sculpt something as such.

    14. I really enjoy both of them and plan to own both types someday.

    15. I like both personally I have a happy medium sculpt between the two on my girl and at some point in the future I really want a highly realistic boy and then a dolfie dream (though the dolfie dreams are so expensive in my opinion.)

    16. I like both. But I think I like realistic dolls more) Though I haven't found my favourite real-life mold yet)

    17. I prefer more realistic proportions in general and tend to dislike large eyes on adult sculpts. I love most of the Iplehouse dolls for that reason and that's where my first few are coming from, but I might end up trying to mod them. My JID Violet is coming in a few days and I might try sanding down her hips. She's meant to be a child of the Stella I have on lawaway, but dem hips/thighs are just a bit too curvy for a twelve year old. But I might just dress her in really flouncy empire-waisted dresses to hide the curves. Not sure if I want to jump into the thick of modding on my very first doll. <3

I'm still relatively new to the hobby though, if I could find more dolls with more natural proportions than Iple's I'd definitely be interested in those too.

    18. I don't care for the anime styled dolls but I also do not want to own a really realistic doll, I like the in between. I actually really like realistic looking make up on a more exaggerated looking doll.

    19. I like many different styles of dolls, including anime and realistic. But I don't want to own very realistic looking dolls. I prefer my dolls to look like dolls, being human looking but idealized like the Greek statues and not a realistic rendering like many of the Roman ones. Most anime style dolls a not my style either.

    20. personally i like real looking style. one of my favorite company is Swich. their face is right in the middle between anime and real looking style. and like to wear either modern or classic style clothes so it looks like more real. :)
