Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I got a head in the mail today that was sooooooo realistic and was suppose to be y feeple0 girls big brother but h is so anime-ish that hey look weird sat together so I definitely prefer realistic dolls more :)

    2. All in all anime is not my cup of tea, so yes, I prefer the realistic look for a doll.

    3. I currently only have a Luts KDF Pine, whom I love a lot, but I have to say I'm of a split opinion. On the one hand, I adore some rather anime-ish girls because they're just so cute, but on the other hand, I am dying to get my hands on some rather realistic-looking SD-sized dolls such as Migidoll's and Supiadoll's sculpts. I especially like Migidoll's Ell and Supia's Hamin! :D So I really can't decide which I like better. I honestly want dolls of both styles, only that isn't very easy to accomplish in my current situation as a student. :|
Still, I was prepared to wait when I got into this hobby - and better late than never!

    4. Honestly I think I like a little bit of both! Though it does depend on the purpose of the doll.
What I mean by that is whether or not they're just a doll I want for aesthetic purposes, or if I'm actually having them based off of one of my own characters.
I have a Fairyland MNF on the way that I'm just having for the sake of having an adorable, lolita-styled "doll-looking" doll. However, I also have an Iplehouse nYID on the way because she's based off of one of my original characters ^ ^

So it really depends! If I want to bring a character to life, I'm most likely gonna go for the more realistic-looking dolls.

    5. I prefer a more realistic look, but I do like stylized ones as well, though not specifically anime.

    6. I am an anime fan and have many anime figurines. I thought I would be more interested in the anime-style bjd's but as I have dived into my research I have found I adore a more realistic sculpt. Who would have thought?

    7. I prefer realistic rather than anime-style BJDs, but I have to admit I find anime styles tend to be more versatile. It can sometimes become difficult to create a realistic doll "look" to go with a realistic face. Nevertheless, my favorite sculpts are from Dollstown, Dollshe, Iplehouse and Bimong. One thing I like in particular is small-ish eyes and downwards mouths, if that makes any sense!

    8. i prefer the real.life human kind of dolls, like the ones from super, they look realistic and i really love the asian appearance :)

    9. I really prefer realistic sculpts, namely Limhwa, Supia, and Iplehouse. God these dolls are amazing. I fell in love with this hobby exactly over realistic dolls- I saw bjds online, thought they were human, and when I found out they were dolls, that was it :P.

    10. I am not a fan of anime eyes at all so I do prefer the more realistic sculpts.

    11. I don't really like the anime style dolls at all, even though I really like anime. I prefer them to look a little more realistic. That being said I love the 'art style' dolls like leekeworld, doll chateau and cerisedolls. (:

    12. i prefer more anime style
but the anime style made only by Volks ( maybe someone else but couldn't find)
so they all cost a lot if you miss them on pre-order.
the realistic faces are nice too, but for me they are or too mature or too childish or they eyes holes are very small chinese like, and thats why it kinda turns me off =\

    13. I used to like realistic looking dolls but now, anime dolls all the way! I originally got into bjds because of anime and while I like looking at others realistic dolls I don't like owning them. Although I do think some anime dolls are kind of a turn off, because they look too unrealistic if that makes sense lol, but some companies like luts have made an animation series of dolls that are perfection, they are anime looking without looking cheap or awkward like many other anime dolls.

    14. I have only Iplehouses, so real looking, except my one Luts. I like that the Luts is a bit anime looking but not overly so.

    15. My taste is evolving at the moment, and I prefer realistic sculpts more and more. I have an anime-like doll I need to do a face up for and tomorrow, it is going to be the 2nd face up I erase since the beginning of the year. I am really struggling getting the right look for her. I find her features very unnatural and difficult to cater for. On the plus side, it Is teaching me quite a lot (patience mostly! )

    16. When I first started to collect bjds, it was more anime inspired. Small noses, large eyes, pointy chins. I'm now more into the more realistic looking dolls...especially ones with unique nose shapes.

    17. I like the look of both really XD I think it just depends on the style of the character, and the style the owner was going for.

    18. Real life styled dolls are more interesting for me. I like dolls looking like real people - natural facial features, natural face up and eye color. Bjds are great - human-like dolls, able to pose like humans. So I like them looking like small real people. Just like me and you. Like others.

    19. My favorite dolls all have anime, or anime inspired, face sculpts. Such as Volks F-14, the Kohaku/Hisui sculpt, which happens to be my absolute favorite. I really love most of Volks older sculpts with the large, preferably cat-shaped eyes, small to practically non-existent pointy noses, and small rather thin-lipped mouths.

Sadly, they have seen fit to discontinue the majority of these sculpts, in favor of, what is for Volks, a more realistic sculpting style.

Luckily, Luts chose to release two delightful full-on anime sculpts, in both 1/4 and 1/3 size, and they've since added a 1/6 anime sculpt as well.

Even the more realistic dolls I purchase still have to have the large, mostly cat-shaped, eyes. They definitely have to have a thin, pointy nose, it can be a prominent nose, but no pudgy fat baby noses, pug noses, or pugilistic looking noses for me!

They have to have thin lips too! I don't like fat puffy Brat doll style lips, or those really weird sharp angled lips that I've been seeing on a lot of the dolls lately. The ones where the top lip looks really pointy, sort of like this --> ^^

    20. I like most dolls but prefer Dollstown because the heads are big and you can get a great faceup/expression. When I'm taking photos I don't want my dolls to look like "dolls." That's hard to acheive with faces that are not in proportion. That is to say big eyes, small mouth. But I do have an Elf and hope to get a Soom. Waiting for that "perfect" sculpt. I like seeing everyones comments. The diversity makes us an interesting community!
