Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. Only the anime ones, there are already enough real world dolls on this planet.

    2. My taste is some where in the middle. Anime style isn't for me but neither are the super realistic dolls. I like the slightly realistic dolls with very big eyes, or big cheeks, that have more of a cartoon look. (not anime but cartoon if that makes sense)

    3. i tread the middle ground with dollmore, semi-realistic is definitely more for me and anytime i go a different direction it never works out.

    4. I like both equally, but I plan to only get the realistic ones for my own collection. I love peakswoods anime style, but they wouldn't look right next to my realistic doll.

    5. In this momento, I prefer realistic dolls, I think they're more unic and not everybody likes them :) but both are fine

    6. I have both! Or rather, I have a range of cartoony-to-realistic. My Volks SchoolHead B (rudimentary anime features) and my Limhwa Mano (incredibly asymmetrical & craggy) are on the extreme ends of the spectrum. ^^ Both styles serve their purposes... it's kind of all in the delivery, whether or not I'll find any head attractive.

I think I like a 'hybrid' style best, though-- very stylized features that still have a grown-up, realistic air about them-- a face you might find in a really high-end anime. Likesay, Volks's angular male sculpts (Ryoya, Hijikata, Yukinojo, Minoru) or most mature males by Soom (Vega, Chalco, Chrom, Hyperon). Or, almost any of the Iplehouse Elder & Senior men... those faces all really get to me, with their perfect balance of elegant & rugged. So many many wonderful cheekbones. <3

    7. I really like more real life human dolls. Like Iplehouse or Limhwa.
I like the bodies. They are not way too skinny (yep, some of them are skinny too, but not all), some have a bigger booty, I like that. When it comes to anime dolls I always think on "Very skinny, no breast, biiiig eyes and colorful hair" don't get me wrong, I like anime and own lots of Manga but I don't like anime dolls at all :) Even tough I know that there are different ones and not every anime doll has small breasts or extremly big eyes ;)

    8. I like both realistic and anime and in between! However, I find it strange having them together :D For instance, my Unoas look really, really weird with my Dollshe Hound. Besides the obvious size and scale difference, Unoas are really quite cartoon-ish compared to Dollshe, which has veins and ribs etc.

    9. I like mine more towards the realistic; so does my girlfriend.

    10. I tend to fall for stylized lifelike faces and molds rather than more anime-styled ones. But that might just be me. ;)

    11. I think I'm somewhere in the middle. I can't imagine to own dolls that have highly anime features, but I love big-eyed dolls. I'd like to try one day a bit more realistic BJD and see how it fits to my doll family.

    12. It depends on the size. I like more realism in mini size and up and I like the anime big eyed look in yo sizes and smaller. The two I'm waiting on seem determined to break that, lol.

    13. I do not like "anime-style" BJDs. What I do like is stylised dolls. I do not like if they are too realistic but it needs to still look human for me to like it.
I like faces that can be both female or male without a faceup ^^

    14. Yeah, I'm not sure I'd use the term "anime-style" to describe my stylized dolls. I don't like the Volks/Dollfie look, with the eyes that take up half the face and the teeeeeeeny tiny mouths. Creepy. *shudder*

However, I'm not a big fan of Iplehouse, either. Sure, I lusted over some of the Noctarcana Circus. and I think Limhwa and Oasis dolls are gorgeous... but I think my tastes are more toward stylized features. I even have a DIM Minimee, but it was based on a game character and so the features aren't "too human" for me. I like B&G dolls, especially the new Old World line, and I like Dollmore dolls (I have a Zaoll or two on my wishlist but that's as "realistic" as I'll get), and Elfdolls (which are more realistic than B&G but not as human-looking as Iplehouse). *shrug* I don't want my dolls to look too human or too unnatural. I like stylized features reminiscent of humanity but not trying too hard. :)

Also... I like my males to look like MALES. The whole anime/girly/effeminate/androgynous boylove can't-tell-if-it's-a-boy-or-girl-without-asking doesn't do it for me.

    15. I'm one of those 'happy medium' sort of collectors. The "anime style" doll with the larger eyes, thinner and pointier nose, smaller lips, etc. is certainly not my preferance, however, neither is the near fashion doll proportions such as put out by the likes of Iplehouse, Limhwa and Fairyland (aka Chicline).

I know that compared to a real human my dolls have extremely large eyes, yet I largely prefer the 'sleepy' and 'dreamy' look. Big lips are an absolute must and so are fleshier noses. The couple of dolls I've bought who don't fit this criteria I have had modified in order to do so. I fully admit my dolls are very stylizes but it's done so in a manner that I feel makes them look a bit more mature than their large-eyed counterparts yet does not give me an uncanny valley effect as their model-esque brethren do.

    16. I like all kinds of dolls, but especially "anime" ones like Dollfie Dreams xP My two current dolls aren't very realistic as they have large eyes, tiny noses and overall if they were real they might look like O.O that. Volks' girls have gorgeous faces in my opinion. They're like, a nice balance between the "anime" look and the not so anime look :P They can pull off either style. But that's just me :P

Currently in love with Dollfie Dreams, I've been unsure about them up until last year when I saw one in person. I died. And when I saw more in person this year it was like heaven :D So for me, the "anime look"

    17. I like both actually....my dolls temp to look more stylize but real human-like antique look is also one of my favorite as well

    18. I like more realistic sculpts. The more anime sculpts make boys look a bit too bishonen for me.

    19. Realistic, no doubt about it. The anime-faced give me itches today, I even gave up some molds for more realistic looking dolls.

    20. I like the slightly more realistic dolls, I guess. They have a feel of old fashioned elegance that I'm drawn to. I'll be honest, I can't STAND the idea of owning one of those dolls with tiny noses and huge eyes made to look like anime characters ;;; it's just my personal preference. I'm into anime, but I've always had a slight aversion to the traditional huge funny shaped eyes, sharp features, ect, that's common in the style... I guess that carries over to dollies, too ;; I have a thing for big, sweet eyes, but I've never liked the look of the anime shape. I'll always like almond-shaped eyes better, I think xD
