Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I like both style! :XD::aheartbea As long as the doll looks cute in my perception, I think will like it no matter which style it is ~ :)

    2. For me I only really like an anime-ish character in 2-D format. However, even if I don't like for anime styled characters to be in 3-D, I still like for my realistic dolls to be stylized. So I can break away only so far from that anime feel, but I can't go so far as to get an extremely realistic doll. >_> if that makes any sense.

    3. I have one of each! The best of both worlds. :)

    4. I definitely like both styles. I'm not really in to the super realistic human looking dolls. I like a lot of the more 'cute' style :)

    5. I prefer a balance between realistic and stylised, I think anime-style dolls look good too, but I would not buy one for myself.

    6. I like both too. I like the way the doll changes when one take good care of them. No matter which stle u pick whether real or anime style, they all some how resemble you as ower and reflects who and how you are. that is why this kind of doll is so pipular! So no matter anime or real style, just take good care of it and your hard work and your love is going to show on them. :)

    7. There are examples of dolls in both categories I think are beautiful but as far as dolls I would own it's a very delicate balance, though I lean more towards preferring stylized.
Too much realism kind of creeps me out and I don't feel comfortable with the doll and too much stylization makes the doll seem blank, like it's missing something.
I know the balance when I see it and get that "Aww cute" feeling but I don't know how to describe it.

    8. I own both styles of dolls Crobidoll and Iplehouse. I believe my main preference are dolls that are modeled after the yaoi style, like those at Crobidoll. But I can also appreciate the beauty of the more realistic style of Iplehouse and others. One thing I don't particularly like is when dolls have an upside down triangle sort of shape to their heads with a very pointy chin. That's a too over stylized for my tastes.

    9. Well, after growing our family with the more realistic dolls as one puts it, a DD will finally call our place home. Chi is currently awaiting preparation for the trip! So now, we can finally say we have a bit of both!

    10. I really love realistic Asian looking BJD girls but only in SD size, anything smaller must be cute looking. I`m not a fan of realistic MSDs or YoSDs. So I would say I like both but with some specifications.

    11. I'd have to say my favorite is DoD DoTs, which I guess is more stylized than realistic. I guess since I draw in a style similar to them they appeal to me more than something realistic. They are more artistically pleasing to me and have more character. When I think Anime I think more Dollfie Dream, though. I have one of those as well, but honestly I'm much more attached to my DoD girl. I'm going to get my second DoD soon.

    12. Interesting to hear other ppl's preferences~ ;)

I myself favor semi-stylized and realistic. But my utmost favorite (among the dolls I own) I have to admit, is a realistic 'artist doll' type sculpt. :D Don't know why but it just somehow ended up that way.. Maybe I do fancy the "realistic & creepy yet beautiful" aura which comes with those type of dolls. But then again, I am a little weird. :sweat

    13. I love both styles. Each provides different potential for my artistic eccentricities. :) However, I have to say that I do NOT like ALL of both. Some of the styles on both sides (anime and realistic) remind me a little too much of the rather scary American dolls my Grandmother collects. T.T Childhood nightmares...

    14. I definitely prefer more realistically sculpted dolls, though I've seen absolutely gorgeous examples of both aesthetics.

    15. I like both styles, but my favourite ones are in the middle of realistic and anime~ :daisy

    16. I prefer the more realistic styled dolls, my first doll was a Luts, but I didn't and don't view him as particularly 'Anime'-ish. I love the masculine jawlines of Soom and Iplehouse, I have a few of them on my small wishlist, and compared to them Promith may not be as structured, but I still love him and I still do not view him as 'Anime'-ish. Although, I have not really seen much Anime other than styles on DA and a random cartoon here and there, so I may not be the best judge of that... XD

    17. I tend to think of the "Anime-style vs. Realistic-style" dichotomy in terms of Asexual vs. Gender-Differentiated. I fall somewhere in between the two extremes -- I like my dolls to be realistic, but not so much that they start straying into human-ness. I'm not fond the more stylized/"anime" faces like Delfs et al, because their stylized, asexual/androgynous look seems completely unrealistic (and samey-boring) to me. But I also dislike the realistic faces of the big dolls from Soom and Iplehouse et al, because the dolls look like little humans and that strays too far into the Uncanny Valley for my liking. I also want my dolls to be gender-differentiated, the male dolls to look like male dolls (but not male humans), which eliminates about 90% of the sculpts out there.

So I guess I like realistic, but idealized enough that it can't be mistaken for real. In fact, I'm a big fan of Dollstown, because both their male and female sculpts hit the sweet spot of being both realistic and idealized.

    18. Anime style. DOD pretty good for big eyes, pale skin, and angular almost girly chins. And love hyper detailed clothing...a tshirt and pants are not good enough. Have to have pockets and zippers, and alotta seam lines always help. Closer to Final Fantasy the better. Or Kingdom Hearts. Yeah......=)

    19. The more realistic the better! I have a bit of a fascination with the whole Uncanny Valley thing. :)

    20. I love realistic dolls. They are more preferable for me because I am more lenient towards the smaller eyes on the dolls. It just looks better and natural. I'm not much into anime and I felt like I've seen too much of that in media. The more realistic ones are like one of a kind.
