Do you Pair your doll’s ?

May 28, 2013

    1. Sort of. I didn't intend to - I started out wanting just one doll (we all know how that works out in this hobby...;)) And then I planned to have one large, one mini and one tiny as sisters... I like having more than one doll in the same scale now. It means that they can share clothes and props and when they're together on my bookshelf they look like they're amongst friends, which is nice :)

    2. I've only bought one doll so far but if you have a gander at my wish list on my profile, almost all the dolls I want also have a bf/gf/friend etc.. that I must get too XD Actually... some dolls I didnt even put on the wishlist cuz I decided I didnt want them because I couldn't find a suitable match for them! lol. Some of the ones on my wishlist are still being decided upon based on whether or not I get them the gf/bf I have listed currently. I may end up switching at least one or two of them XD

    3. Company is good, pairs are good... who wants to be the only doll standing on the shelf? My first ever doll seemed so lonely then... I like the idea of girl/boy pairs, and same size pairs as well... basically one big family is great lol! :) Just need to add an extra shelf to accomodate them all ;)

    4. I don't really pair mine. Mostly for two reasons. One, I can't afford to buy another doll. Two, it just wouldn't fit either boy's personality to have a partner.

    5. Yes and no.

No, because I don't really care about sizing. I much prefer SD, so of my 27 dolls, 22 of them are between 56-65cm. I also have a 70cm boy, 2 MSDs, 1 Yo-SD and 1 tiny pet doll. I don't pair by gender, as only one of my dolls is female. I don't pair by company, as almost half of my crew are hybrids and I only own one doll or one part from most, though I have 4 1/2 BlueBloodDolls, and 3 AoD bodies!

But I DO pair/group my dolls by character. I have two separate story lines, and most are from the modern world, but two are ancient Egyptians. I originally planned to just have my one grail doll be in the ancient world, but he seemed lonely, so I got him a lover. <3 I also like for all of my dolls to have a relative, lover or best friend within my crew. If they don't fit and don't connect to the others, they feel like an outcast and I don't bond. But it's easy enough to work them into the group in some way.

However, Xerxes is all alone, as a Faramita doesn't really fit in realistic human worlds. :P So he just sits on my nightstand and creeps on everybody!

    6. Sometimes. I like to have certain characters in pairs to interact (they're not necessarily lovers, usually it's just friends/family relations) so I ended up with them "paired". In the fictional 'verse my dolls characters exist in Angels come in pairs, and most of them have their other half, though a lot of that happened by accident. A few of them won't ever, just because I have no desire to own them as dolls XD

    7. In my personal opinion, I think it depends on the "maturity" of the doll; I would find it creepy if a super-young looking MSD was romantically paired with a SD with a beard. But that's just me. :)

    8. I would say that according to my current collection it doesn't appear that I must pair things by size, since I have a lone Pukipuki and a lone slim MSD. But going by my future want list, the Puki and the MSD will belong to my fantasy group, and I obviously have an already large DD group. Even though I want to get a regular SD sized boy that fits in neither category, he wouldn't be an outcast since I already picked a regular resin girl to go with him. So yes, I seem to feel the need to pair or group my dolls. Not necessarily by size, but more by style.

    9. I never planned for it to happen, but I figure each size should have a friend. I just recently obtained a 'sister' for my SD girl, and my MSDs are twins....so yea, it happened but I never planned it out that way. I just hope my two littlest ones don't start asking for friends (though Pip could really use a Merry).

    10. I'm planning on pairing my boys eventually, and adding to the "family" as time goes on. I didn't initially think that I'd get companions for them, but storyline-wise, I have to, so... my wallet softly weeps.

    11. I like having at least two in a similar size range. It's nice to have similar sizes for photoes/stories. I feel for me it would be odd trying to photograph an msd with a 70+cm doll. Most of mine are over 60cm so when I first bought an msd I next bought another similar size to go with him. Sounds like a lot of us do this so what you are doing is perfectly normal!

    12. I kind of feel the same way, but at the same time to pair my dolls like that would not fit my backstory for them... latly i have been thinking of getting a yosd and a another msd for exatly the same reason (i dont whant them to be alone in there size XD) but then I realized that my MSD and my YOSD is not alone cuse My SDs are protecting them (in my back story) I also prefer SD and large dolls so I would probably regret getting two new smal ones (i have 3 sds one msd and a yosd)

    13. So far "odd size" hasn't kept me from buying a certain doll that I wanted, but once I have one doll that sticks out like a sore thumb from my collection, I am more inclined to buy another doll in that size. I'd say that dolls being able to share clothes and shoes is handy, but that doesn't really work when you have a boy and a girl with very different body proportions. (I'm looking at you Chiclines.)
So far the only doll that doesn't have a doll in similar size or looks in proportion with it (I have a few parent-child pairs with dolls of different sizes) is my Mecha Angel Sabik. Since I haven't found a doll that looks good with him that I like and dolls in that size are quite expensive, I don't feel like spending money just to give a doll a companion.

    14. If I can get something in a pair I do. For me it's something of an odd version of OCD, If I know it has a pair it bothers me if I don't have it. If I remain oblivious to it's pair I'm fine. I do it with everything, not just dolls.

    15. Sometimes. When I start with something new (like a LTF, a Lati Yellow, a Zuzu and so on) I soon get a second one because one doll of one type soon gets lonely. But it usually doesn't take too long until even more of them join in^^

    16. I don't necessarily pair mine up, but I do like having more than one in a particular size. It's one of the reasons I can't quite allow myself to buy a 35cm doll or a big 65cm one.

I find that I concentrate more on 'relationships' within the story arcs for my dolls. So I end up wanting siblings, significant others, friends etc. as soon as I get a new one, regardless of the size.

    17. So far I have one msd sized girl, and another pukifee girl. But I just ordered another pukifee boy as a companion for my little one.. And the next two on my wishlist are yo-sd sized! And yes, I did plan for them to be a pair... So I guess while i am ok with and want several sizes, I can't just have one of each size! I want them to have a buddy/friend/significant other etc etc? It's easier to share things like scaled props and shoes too, if they are the same size. ^^;;;

    18. Ummm...no. As I generally only have one doll at a time out, they are pretty much lone wolves :) The only exception is my Dollshe & Supia, they tend to like hanging out together as siblings, but not all the time.

    19. Most of them, yes! And they do stick to pairing up with mates of similar size. Many of the couples were intentionally paired... but for many others, they just sort of fell together. In a suspicious number of cases, they seemed to pair up with whomever had arrived here just before them. Sort of like a first-come-first-served harem. :whee: Some of the pairings are Just Friends, or twins, but mostly lovers. In some cases, there are 3 dolls who stick together (either friends or lovers). ^^

But I also do have a fair amount of lone-wolf dolls who have just never seemed like they needed pairing up. If they're not feeling it, and if I'm not feeling it, then nobody gets forced into an arranged marriage. Besides, these dolls are ones I just enjoy by themselves! Lalyraa the giant Soom merman is a solo unit, Karim and Laika are on-again-off-again so they don't really consider themselves boyfriends, Severin is a solo rockstar with a million groupies but nothing tying him down, Kentaro hangs out with his 2 best friends but is generally in his own little world, Nava is a one-man show but only because Volks hasn't created his BFF yet.... and Nico (the snottiest-looking of all snotty-looking AngelRegion Present Rens) simply disdains all humanity, so he is totally the lonest wolf in the forest.

And Bijan, my beloved EID Akando, isn't paired up with anyone because he's MINE! Mine mine mine! :aheartbea I spoil the hell out of those dolls by buying them all the boyfriends they want-- but you gotta get some dolls just for you, and Bijan is just for me.

    20. That's such an Akando thing... I'm exactly the same way about Palrah.
