1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you save boxes for dolls and accesories?

Nov 15, 2021

    1. I get rid of anything at all in my home that doesn't have an immediate or important use- living in a few hundred square feet is wonderful for not holding onto unnecessary stuff. I am ruthless when I cull things around the place, and boxes just cannot stay, flattened or otherwise. I can't stand knowing I have something tucked away only because it "might be useful later." If I know I won't need it in the next year, off it goes to recycle or trash. I'm not a minimalist but I have no tolerance for stuff piling up anywhere! I curate my space (whether it is out in the open or my cupboards) very very meticulously.

*editing to add that living with semi-hoarder parents can do this to a person lol!

    2. Yes I will keep those boxes, my collection needs the safety and security of the boxes.

    3. I keep doll boxes just in case I'd need to sell them for whatever reason. It helps show authenticity (duh lol). But for clothing and accessories, the packaging is thrown away immediately, I don't think it's that important compared to doll boxes but if it were something special and not just something I bought on etsy, then I might keep the packaging

    4. I keep everything in its original packaging (unless it was like, wrapped and taped in tissue that had to be ripped, or something) when I'm not using it, including clothes and wigs. The inner doll boxes is where the dolls hang out normally so I obviously keep those, but I do also keep almost all of the shipping boxes. I threw away a box for a doll once and had a huge problem finding a box to ship her in when I sold her. Had to spend like $15-20 just on a box - what a waste of money/cardboard! So now I keep and re-use all boxes and packaging - they're actually stored in the same big box as my doll stuff. Aside from the two boxes for my two dolls that I haven't sold (which are gathering dust behind my bookshelf - but I'm keeping them in case we need to move), I've found myself reusing boxes and packaging over and over - for storage, for shipping dolls to and from face-up and wig artists, etc. If I've re-used the box 2-3 times and it's covered in numerous shipping labels/damage from postal system I do throw it away, because I feel like its lived its useful life.

    5. If you're referring to product packaging, yes! I usually purchase from "branded" BJD shops, so keeping the original packaging would serve as a proof of authencity.

For cardboard boxes, I would keep them for when I need to pack things up for sales. I stack them up within one another in order to save space.

    6. I don't have the room for keeping boxes and I only have larger dolls. I do keep the paperwork and accessories together.

    7. I still have the original boxes of my Luts and Soom doll. I keep X-mas deco in them.
My Spiritdoll's 'box' was a bag and it was put inside a regular but very thick corrugated cardboard box. That is the best doll bag I have ever had or seen and it has given me a lot of funny moments, since it is black and looks like the carrier bag of a shotgun. :mwahaha
I usually do not keep the original package of doll accessories. The exception is Spiritdoll again, the full set of my doll came in a nice branded box. I use that for keeping doll-related keepsakes.

    8. I've kept the inner box for my first doll partly out of sentiment, partly in case I need to ever store him safely for some reason(moving, etc.). I've also hung onto the packaging of the few accessories I have at the moment bc its an easy way to store them and also remember what I actually have. I'll probably hang on to any future doll boxes for a bit as well in case I decide to sell or something, at least until I start running out of storage space or the piles of boxes starts making me anxious, lol.

As for buying dolls second-hand...the company box would be better to have than not but I don't think it'd be a dealbreaker for me if it's a doll I really want.

    9. I save their boxes because I'm always moving since I don't like to stay in the same place for too long. I've moved 3 times in the past 2 years and the boxes have been my life saviors.

    10. I am a box hoarder! I keep all the boxes for my dolls and other figures. But you're correct that it is a huge space saver to get rid of them. Personally, I wouldn't buy a doll without its original box, but I know plenty of people aren't as picky. Clothes and accessories I would say are fine to toss the packaging on, unless it's some kind of special or limited outfit.

    11. I only save the boxes that my dolls come in since it saves a lot of time down the road when moving/needing to pack them away. For accessories and other things like that I just keep those in my organized space for them and find that a lot of the packaging for them is bulky and doesn't fix in the space I have.

    12. Yes, I save my doll boxes, because it.s a storage place for them if needed. I usually display my dolls out of the boxes, but if i need to move them or store them for some reason they are going into the boxes.
The boxes are also one proof of authenticity, like people here mentioned, but I am not planning to sell my current dolls, so I purely keep them for storage.

    13. I save both the doll boxes and the outer boxes. I wouldn't buy collector's items without the original boxes myself, so I try to keep everything.
I do keep some clothing packages too, just in case I want to sell some stuff. So far space hasn't been an issue for me, the empty boxes just sit on the top of my shelves.

    14. For BJD's, I also would rather buy from sellers who did keep the original box. It just adds that extra touch and makes things a little nicer (also protects them better). Plus, I do like the boxes. They are usually so beautifully decorated, and I keep my dolls in my closet for now (for lack of space), so I do actually need them.

When it's clothes and accessories, I don't care about the boxes, unless they're particularly useful for storage.

    15. For my dolls, I save the original box but not the shipping box. I figure if I ever decide to sell them, or if I move, it's the best way to store/ship them.

    16. I keep the box from the store but not the box it was mailed in. If that makes sense. I have a shelf in my closet to save them. Plus I don't have many dolls to begin with so saving the boxes doesn't take up too much space.

    17. I keep the original box the doll came in since I see it as part of the collection aspect, but not the box it was shipped in. I do use them to store that particular doll's wardrobe, accessories, and such. Any clothes or accessories that come in specific packaging I usually keep too for convenience and storage (if it's not too bulky). I dont, however, keep the boxes clothes and accessories ship in. I like to keep everything as original as possible for the sake of collecting! It also comes in handy for when I move or sell a doll.

That being said, it doesn't bother me if I buy a doll secondhand without its original box. It would be a plus, but as long as the doll is secure and safely packaged then it's alright if I don't have the original box!

    18. I do keep all the official boxes. With second hand stuff if they don’t come in original boxes I usually just keep the packaging. But if the box is an odd shape or seems like a good quality box I keep it just in case if I sell things.

    20. I kept all the boxes that the dolls came with. But I don't keep any accessories boxes. I stored all the accessories in see through containers.:whee:
