Do you take your limited or rare dolls out of your house?

Nov 28, 2010

    1. Do you take your limited or rare dolls out of your house?
Yes I do. ^^ I take them outside to my backyard and the park for pictures every once in a while. The only meet I have been to was before I actually had a full doll (pretty sure all I had was my two Migidoll heads) but I plan on attending more in the future and bringing my dolls with me.

How do you feel about taking limiteds/rares to meets, cons, on outings - basically, out of your house?
No different from taking any of my other dolls out. I am very careful with all of my dolls, regardless of how rare or expensive they are. I want them to last forever, or as long as they can, so I'm careful to treat them delicately and not expose them to excess sun or risky situations. To me my dolls are meant to be enjoyed and that's part of enjoyment for me- playing and exploring with them. ^^

Have you had any bad or questionable experiences that have made you wary of taking your limiteds/rares out?
So far? Not at all. ^^ I am very cautious and don't take them out too terribly often.

    2. The only dolls I have are limiteds but I will still take them out ^.^ I'm careful with them, but not overly protective otherwise i'd find it more irritating than fun, to be honest.

    3. I don't really have any problems taking my limited dolls out, even though to me, all of my dolls are limited in a sense, because of all the time spent in making them look the way I want, and all the wonderful memories they've helped create. Only exception would probably be my Monzo, Angel, and his delicate gargoyle wings. They'd be too hard to carry around safely without having to worry about cracks or scratches that I prefer to leave them at home rather than take unnecessary risks.
Of course, I would never leave my dolls out of my sight when I take one in a meet that takes place in public, like a cafรฉ, unless I know that there's someone who I can count on watching over them. However, I trust the local doll enthusiasts enough to treat any doll with respect, so I'm not too stressed about that.
All in all, I'm happy to take my dolls out, whether it's for a meet or a photo shoot in the nature, I treat them as carefully as I can to minimize accidents so I'm not panicing excessively over 'what ifs'.

    4. Yes I`ve taken my limited dolls out. I had them on display in our local manga and hobby store, promoting the hobby. I had my Volks Lieselotte standing there through December and over new years, as well as my Dollfie Dream Yui and Mari for 3 months. They were safe there and no bad experiences with it. The shop owner has a doll too, so he was understanding when it comes to handling and keeping them safe. They were in a glass closet too, away from sunlight, dust and sticky fingers. :)

As for cons I`d probably be more likely to bring my DDs than Lieselotte, since she is so valuable. But the doll hobby community here in Norway is small and tight, and I trust them all not to snatch her. Im more afraid of me being not careful and ending up damaging her. :P

    5. I have no problem taking out my limiteds. I treat all my dolls the same and take them out the same. I have never dispalyed my dolls in my house or left them dressed for more than a couple of hours. Its very sunny hot and humid where I live so I prefer to store them unclothed in thier boxes when not in use...I do try and take them out equally so they can get some fresh air!!!

    6. Do you take your limited or rare dolls out of your house?
All the time. I don't really think of them as rare or limited because, to me, all of these dolls are super expensive. I treat them with the same care as I would any other expensive object, but that doesn't mean I'll keep them locked up. I bought them to have fun with, and that's exactly what I do.

How do you feel about taking limiteds/rares to meets, cons, on outings - basically, out of your house?
I don't mind it so much. I do keep a close eye on my kidlins when I go to meets. Though, that could be because I'm a very paranoid person and need to know what's going on. I don't find it much different from taking them out of the house, except that there are more people around that know what they are. I enjoy letting others experience them.

Have you had any bad or questionable experiences that have made you wary of taking your limiteds/rares out?
I've had a couple experiences involving hard floor and faceplants, but luckily the resin of these particular cuties is super amazing and nothing was harmed. It did scare me, but now I just laugh. It is quite funny when they fall with their arms up and a foot in the air, just like a cartoon person. I do watch them more carefully now, though. ;)

    7. Sure. I treat them the same as any other doll. Both are expensive, both take a long time before you can buy them. But I have to say, that I don't bring out my dolls much at all. Most of the time they just hang out in my study.

    8. How do you feel about taking limiteds/rares to meets, cons, on outings - basically, out of your house?

All but three of my dolls are limited/hard to get/discontinued but they all take turns going out except for the SA Bermann. He's only been out of the house twice back when I only had two dolls. I really really really can't afford to replace him so he stays home.

I'm most comfortable going to another BJD friend's house or out in public by myself to take pics. I don't like getting on really crowded buses with more than one doll, other riders can be really aggressive when getting on and off and barely give you time to move things out of harms way before squeezing by. Small meet-ups are comfortable, meet-ups with lots of people I am unfamiliar with make me most nervous.

Have you had any bad or questionable experiences that have made you wary of taking your limiteds/rares out?[/QUOTE]

So far the only things that have happened have been my fault, thank goodness! Like when I stood my SD16 Tony in a tree and he fell right when the wind blew my hair in my face, I snapped my hand out catching him upside-down by the ankles and only his headcap hit the ground. whew! The way I see some people handle their own dolls at meets and conventions does make me more cautious in groups. Luckily most locals are very gentle and ask to hold or touch first.

    9. It would be so nice to own a rare doll. If I had one, I would defizntly taken them outside, but I wouldn't be any more cautious with them than I am Dorian as far as possible theft. However the risky poses I do with Dorian (hes such a brave little doll...), I would probably avoid. I love Dorian for sentimental reasons, so him being broken wouldn't make a huge difference to me as long as i could glue it up. As for a rare I would feel horrible over any injury, its worth as a perfect rare would give it most of its value I imagine.

    10. no problem at all

They like to enjoy the fresh air as much as I do

    11. Limited or not I like to enjoy my dolls hands on. and love taking at least one of them on vacations with me, this way when the mood strikes I can break out the camera head out and just have fun photographing them.. which is the best part I think, I rather like the hard violin case carrier from Volks when I travel with one this keeps them well protected when on the road with me.

    12. I like to be "hands on" with my dolls, take them places and do things with them - and that applies to the limiteds as much as the standards. My Vampire Breakaway 05, my Juri 05,my Hound and my FCS F-22 all get to come out to meets and so forth as my El, Lishe or Shiwoos do. I don't see the point in owning a doll that stays swathed in cloth in a box at the back of the closet all the time; other people may do that, but that's not for me.

I've never yet had any of my dolls come a cropper in nearly 6 years in the hobby; a few close calls, but that's good for sharpening up the reflexes! ;)

    13. Oh God, my limiteds go everywhere with me XDDD And I mean, they're the works. Expensive, irreplaceable faceups, fullset soom dolls, you name it. They'd be hurt if I didn't take them out. I'm not careless- they have pillows and facemasks, I take care of them and they're all in excellent condition- I just wouldn't bond with a doll that stayed locked up in my room.

    14. i havent thought about that before. i recent just go a limited one and i brought him to everywhere. I realized i should be more careful now

    15. I would take any doll I got out with me to public places. I'm as careful as I can be but there's a point where it seems too ridiculous.

    16. I don't have any limiteds (I only have one doll with 2 on layaway) but I think I would take them out. buying a doll and then not fully enjoying it the same way I enjoy the others would bug me. It sorta reminds me of people that have handicapped children and homeschool them and never let them out of the house because they're afraid they'll get hurt, emotionally or physically. If I thought I'd be too scared to bring a doll out with me, I simply wouldn't buy that doll. As I said I wouldn't feel I was enjoying it fully, so what would be the point? I suppose my DollLeaves Jax is limited, in a way. I'm not sure but I don't think he'll be available after the event is over. Either way I plan on fully enjoying my little bunny, the same as I will my Xavor and the same as I do my Chi.

    17. I generally invite certain people to my house rather than take them out. I will take certain ones to meets, but those that have easily chipped body blushing I won't take.
