Do you Talk to your Dolls or Do you not Talk to your dolls?

Mar 28, 2013

    1. Well, seeing my mother talk to our cat, her purse, the fridge, sink, toilet, and many other things i think its only natural that i do that too now that i've grown up. So yeah i talk to my dolls, like tell them they look pretty, or if they wont cooperate with dressing and stuff. Also do i talk to my rats (although they kinda 'talk' or at least 'sniff' back) and also to spiders in the shower. note im really afraid of spiders so when i spot one while showering i talk to them as in ''hi there....dont come closer, im sure you are really nice and stuff but i just think you look a bit scary'' it feels more comfortable once i talk to them, also after we talked i wont have them removed because then they are...euh....acquaintances. So yeah..i talk to a lot of stuff, animals, insects and so on xD i could even start a conversation with a leaf in the park if i wanted to.

So dont you worry about other people, it makes character! And if i ever was to spot someone talking to something....i would only think they are probably very nice and fun to be around (everyone needs a 'silly' friend ;) )

    2. I am well aware that they are not "cognizant", however, it's nice as someone else said, to talk to something that doesn't talk back or give you attitude. It's amazing how you can talk something out when it's just you and something else that is there but does not interrupt! Of course, I talk to my cats too, so there you go.

    3. I talk to my dolls all the time when I move them around, changing their clothes/wigs/eyes/ etc. Sometimes I just talk to them as a normal person; I only really do that when I'm alone though. Of course they do not answer back, but I feel like they listen :).

I believe it is a perfectly normal thing for someone in this hobby to do. Why not? Haha. To me it's not much different from someone talking to themself or their pet. To me, interacting with you doll adds a bit of a creative edge. :)

    4. Thanks to everyone who's responded :) I take comfort that there are other "Silly" people out there like me LOL :) Huggles to all!

    5. I talk to my dolls, more Philippe than anything. I've always had a very deep bond to all the dolls I've had overtime and they were always the first ones I vented to. Growing up as a child torn between divorced parents, I moved around a lot; going back and forth, having to go to court.....so I felt my dolls were the ones I could talk to without any kind of guilt, any kind of fear of rejection. They made me feel safe and happy in a time where I couldn't sleep because of night terrors. Even today, I vent to my dolls when I want to say things I can't say to other people; but I don't just vent, I tell them how much they mean to me and how much I love them all, though Philippe is the closest to me.

    6. I talk to my dolls just as I do with all my pets....and I wouldn't have it any other way ^_^

    7. I've had people ask me that question... usually it's a non-hobbyist and what they really want to know is if I pretend to have tea parties and full-blown conversations with them. (And they look like they're already humoring me and mentally fitting me for a straight jacket before I even answer. And you can't deny it because they've already assumed the answer is "Yes".)

Being as I'm a rather paranoid sort of person, I usually specify that I "talk at" them, rather than "talk to" them, since "talking to" implies (IMO) that you expect an answer.

Mind you, there is nothing wrong or weird about talking to your dolls/pets/electronics. Some people unfortunately ask the question with a pre-formed opinion about having dolls as a hobby and that ticks me off. I firmly maintain that just because you've hit a certain age does not mean that some switch is flipped and you suddenly no longer like the things you did when you were younger. You may like them for different reasons, but you still like them (e.g. I enjoy animation as an art form, instead of just a moving story).

I've tried venting or monologuing to them when I've got something on my mind - it doesn't really work for me, but I think there are some people who benefit from it. Usually I just end up swearing at them when I'm handling them and they fall over or pinch me when I'm restringing or something like that.

    8. I talk to my figures, I talk to my cat, yes I talk to my doll as well( ´ ▽ ` )
Not full-out conversations, but y'know, "Aw so cute!" "Would you like to wear this? Let's see how it'll look on you-"

    9. Well, that is true! Maybe I should talk more to my ladies than just saying "hi". At least they would agree with everything I say because know one else does

I hope no one misunderstands me: I don't think anyone is weird or stupid because they talk to the dolls, or pets, or desk, or anything else, really. After all, I know some people think I'm weird because I'm a guy who has dolls.

Even if someone wants to live in a fantasy world, that's' fine, too, as long as they are not hurting themselves or others. Besides, I do think most of us daydream, which is just fantasizing.

    10. Once I receive my first doll, I will definitely talk to her, just like I talk to my rabbit and my two cats! :) She'll be part of the family and my parents will just have to deal with it ^___^

    11. Last night I learned how to make Dolleh shirt from the crafting forums and I was so proud of it! I started making the doll dance and talking to it. It just sort of naturally happened so I figure its one of those things you can't force ya know? Anyways this has turned out to be a great discussion :)

    12. I talk to my dolls. And to my pets. And to people on TV. :))

    13. Yes, I talk to my dolls, my dogs, plants, tv, computer etc.

    14. I do say hi to them when I come home and mumble something to them while posing for photos.) Sometimes when I feel melancholic or depressed or lonely I also may share some of that with my dolls)

    15. :)I talk to my girl (Rini) etc and when the others get here l well talk to them as well also l dont do this all the time but l do talk to them.

    16. Yes, I do talk to my dolls. I talk to the printer at work, to our cat, to our table when he's in the way again and lots of other stuff as well I guess

    17. Mostly, I talk to myself ;) Sometimes, to my girls as well, but not much. However, I often talk to dolls I want to have ;) I look at their company photos and longingly sigh things like "I'm going to have you one day" and such :)

    18. I've had a wild imagination since childhood, and my mom encouraged it, for the most part. I regularly talk to objects, not just dolls. lol i don't actually have conversations or expect to hear a response, but I guess I talk at things? Like yelling at the microwave to cook faster, or asking the remote where it's hiding. I talk to the dolls a little more personally than to random objects, but it's still mostly casual comments, like "Amir, you look so hot in that shirt" or "Loki, why do you keep trying to squat when I want you to stand?" or "Telly, why are you always checking out my boys?" (that last one to my sister's boy, who ALWAYS seems to be staring longingly any time I have my tan boys in the room...)

    19. I talk to everything, haha. Dolls, animals, inanimate objects, myself, people that can't hear me. Mostly it's just in passing, like when I ask my animals why they're making so much noise or ask them what they're doing.

    20. I didn't think that I talked to my dolls - until my oldest daughter caught me doing it! Guess I do.
