Do you Talk to your Dolls or Do you not Talk to your dolls?

Mar 28, 2013

    1. I talk to my doll sometimes. I don't, like, hold full conversations with her, but I'll occasionally compliment her, or tell her to stop dislocating her foot.

    2. I admit that I do talk to my girls ^^;

    3. Yes i talk to him, but most of the time it is " I am so sorry I left the light on. I am sorry I forgot to shut the shades will you ever forgive me." I also talk to my cat alot, people think I am crazy for that because I talk to him like he is my kid.

    4. I curse at them when I'm having a hard time posing them, and I apologize to them when I let them fall down, but that's not much difference from me cursing at my car or computer when they aren't working right and then apologizing if I "hurt" them somehow. XD

    5. I talk to my dolls too much, I should stop doing that. They talk back to me and somehow, that is always bad for the wallet. Today, I am really happy, my new boy told me his name. He is Henry Victor Reisner. He is British. See, I talk to dolls and they talk back. Soon, he is going to ask me to buy him clothes, toys or bring home his friend! :(

    6. I always talk to them or whisper to them!!! I have this notion (like the Toy Story movie) that all dolls and furthermore toys have souls ...but then again i might have a vivid imagination!!!!

    7. Today I stood in front of my dolls and said, "You guys make me happier than any man ever could!" Then I realised that my housemate could hear me and shut the hell up.

    8. Hmm. I'm still waiting on my first bjd's to arrive.

When I was a kid I made full stories in my head and every barbie had a personality and a character and a name. I haven't done that yet as an adult, but I think I will when I get my bjd. I realize they might not talk back, they might not be real in a sense, but I believe that everything comes from something that was something else, and all things are connected in some way, so in that sense, all things are alive in some way or another. I'm a bit weird like that. I talk to my cats, they are my fur-children as I've yet to be able to have human children. I know they can't vocalize back in human terms - so some people find it weird - but, when I am upset, they come over and rub their noses on my face and I know it's because they care in their own little kitty way.

I think we all owe it to ourselves to try to be happy in what ever way we can be. It can be hard to dismiss the laughter of others - but it's so important that we try to remember that it's okay to be ourselves. Just my two cents on the matter.

    9. I talk to my dolls as if they understand me...same with my rats and my dog. I tell them they're cute and ask them why they want me to be so poor.

Sometimes for the pets I also put on silly voices and make them talk to other people, but I wouldn't do that for my dolls...only Mr.Dybbuk (DC Faramita) when I convey to my sister how much he wants to be her friend (because she is terrified by him)...my sister also does 'his voice' sometimes to say silly things but it's largely for laughs. Actually, he's the only one of my dolls that I've considered how he talks/what he sounds like...with my other dolls I might talk to them and then act like they've given an offensive answer to amuse other people, but it has no bearing on the doll's character....

raeyvn, you make a good point about just being happy and talking to dolls is actually pretty nice.

    10. I think I talk to any inanimate object...tbh. lol >_<'

I talk A LOT to Nicky, as if he's alive. xD I also talk to Marc and to the new girl...but mostly to Nicky. Dunno why. :/

I just have that sort of imagination, I guess. Why not? It's pretty fun, and I see no problem with it. (within reason, of course.)

I think, in a general sort of view, that it is natural for people to personify things they own. Especially if they care a lot, or there is a substantial amount of emotions connected to the object.

    11. I talk with my doll and everything around me such as my dog and tree. I believe that they hay a life. And i am so lucky that my boy freind understand me.

    12. i talk to them, im always like "omigawd dariel stop being a brat and put your pants on!" when im having trouble getting their clothes on or "do you LIKE being bald?" when a wig wont stay on or when im dressing them in drag or something OOC like that i'll be like "oh god akira is gonna kill me in my sleep tonight" and sometimes i'll offer up what i think my doll would say in a certain situation but ive never sat down and tried to have a full-length conversation with them before? (i take that back, get me and my BFF risa alone together and we will have hour-or-longer role-play esque conversations between our dolls LOL)

    13. I talk to my dolls, my dragons, my dog, myself... I find more dificult to talk to people though... XD I'm also a crazy lady

    14. Sure, why not talk to them when you interact. I look forward to the day when they start talking back *g*.

    15. I would talk to my dolls. You see, I'm one of those people who would stub my toe on a table and then proceed to scold the table so I don't think I'd have trouble absent mindedly talking to my dolls.

    16. Not really, I might be like "c'mere" when taking them down for pics or clothing swap, but no. I'm a pretty quiet person though.

    17. I talk to mine; but then again...I seem to talk to a lot of my inanimate objects ((like my plushies, and my electronics)) xD

    18. I guess I do, but I barely notice. Not conversationally, but the same way I yell at my car or a table.

At the gas station with a calculator. "Come the hell on, you can do better than twenty four miles per gallon."

Trying to put shoes on Annora. "Stop...STOP WHY IS YOUR KNEE TURNING BACKWARDS?"

That's the extent of it for inanimate objects. Most of my creativity happens in writing about the character my doll represents.

I talk to animals and plants, but more conversationally. There have actually been a lot of studies showing that plants respond to people talking to them, which is interesting. (Also that plants talk to each other somehow, which is even more interesting.) Just because a creature doesn't respond doesn't mean it doesn't understand, to some extent, what you're saying.

    19. I do talk to my dolls, it's kinda normal for me cuz I always talk to my cats. . .and plants and my car. Lol. But I refrain from talking to my dolls in front of my family or they'd start to think I'm crazy. xD

    20. This is what I do too. I always mutter to myself, when I see something, or do something. This is not directed to the doll in anyway, but just saying a thought out loud.

I am a professional writer, I sculpt dolls and am currently building a dollhouse: I think I'm doing pretty okay creativity-wise. Still, no talking to dolls for me :).
