Do your doll's eyes have to fit perfectly in their sockets? Do gaps bother you?

Mar 3, 2014

    1. Gaps do bother me. Not a deal breaker but it does bug me.

    2. It bothers me a little, but I know that if I go the next size up in eyes, it'll look ridiculous. It's just something I have to deal with. What I hate most though is when one eye has more gaping than the other.:vein:vein:vein

    3. Gaps bug the hell out of me!! I can't have gaps, just… No!

    4. It definitely bothers me a lot. And since I discovered a lot of people leave gaps on the doll I am getting, I am becoming really insecure about what eyes to buy for her...

    5. Usually going with the company's recommended size is the best thing. They will know what size eyes will fit best in their dolls.

    6. I suppose it depends on how big the gap is and how easily it can be hidden with putty. If it's glaringly obvious in pictures or in person, I will be buying the doll new eyes.

    7. Gaps only bother me when they are very noticeable. Otherwise, I can always fudge it with silicone putty.

    8. Personally I hate gaps. They aren't aesthetically pleasing and they drive me mad. My sister's doll has an eye gap because the eyes she has for her are 16mm instead of 14mm, so I am personally getting her the right sized eyes because it bothers me so bad. Maybe if you had some white eye putty to mask it a little bit it would be better but I still would rather have eyes that fit correctly.

    9. I've seen eyes that came with the doll and had small gaps on the sides; hope it won't bother me but probably it will.

    10. Depends upon how it looks. Some gaps might not bother me if the silicone or putty fills it fairly well. Some of my dolls they have odd sockets. I've actually found it hard sometimes to get it just right. I either have to go bigger which I don't like because I like realistic pupils or I have to live with a slight gap at the sides. It took me 4 pairs before I had a set in my Dai that fit well. Even now I'm still fussing with that because while I like the fit okay I don't really like the color of said eyes. I do want them to look as good as possible but I'm just not into being anal over it. Being perfect is too hard, even for dolls, and I don't ask that of them.

    11. I've had some whose default eyes were much too large for their eye wells. It happens, hence "usually".

Sometimes a company doesn't know how to determine the correct eye size, or there is an issue with the sculpt itself that means whatever size they suggest doesn't fit.

    12. I have a doll that has slightly uneven eye sockets, leaving one eyes with a slightly bigger gap, it's not hugely noticeable and I actually find it rather endearing.

    13. I definitely prefer the eyes to fit perfectly. If there is even the littlest bit of a gap it is all I can see in my photos of the doll and it drives me crazy.

    14. Gaps only bother me if I see the eye putty, and since I like to use green sticky tack, that requires some fiddling so the putty won't show.

    15. I don't like large eye gaps at all, though in certain cases I've dealt with it. Right now everyone has pretty well-fitting eyes, though I've stopped using higher domed eyes in the past when they didn't fit well. I've also had some dolls with uneven eye sockets, which can be fixed if you're careful. I've never tried the soft eyes, though I tend to think I'd just be annoyed by dust sticking to them.

    16. Gaps do bother me too. My doll has her original eyes so they fits just fine.

    17. Short answer: yes.

Okay, like, a tiny bit I can deal with... but for crying out loud when you can see right into their head though their eye sockets..... no.

Which is a real bummer since I kind of prefer smaller eye sizes (smaller iris)...

    18. It bothers me a bit. I normally buy 12mm eyes for my LTF's but someone uses 14mm so I bought a pair but have not tried them yet!

    19. Yes, gaps bother me. They can ruin the overall look of a doll, especially when you can see into the doll's head.

    20. Yes, it bothers me a little bit. I really like the eyes to fit as perfect as possible.
