Do your doll's eyes have to fit perfectly in their sockets? Do gaps bother you?

Mar 3, 2014

    1. I am very picky about my doll's eyes. Gaps bother me a lot, and if the eyes don't stand out in photos, they're the wrong eyes.

    2. Gaps drive me insane. I'm okay if it's just a super tiny gap or something, but anything super large sort of ruins it for me. In theory, silicone eyes would be a great way to deal with this but I cannot for the life of me ever get them to actually hold their position once I've squished them in so they fill the gaps. I can only ever get them to work if I'm using them the same way I would hard eyes.

I recently ran into a case where the eye socket was just sculpted too shallow for any sort of eye with a dome over the iris. I couldn't mod them without ruining the eye shape, so I had to go searching for low dome eyes without that added bump. It took a bit of searching but I found what I needed and am much happier now! :)

    3. Yes, it must:) I chose the eyes very carefully for perfect fit.

    4. You know, I only noticed recently that eye gaps really do bother me...when I see them on company sites, I feel frustrated, and I recently received a doll with the issue, and I'm going mad trying to figure out how to fix it. xD

    5. They bother me when the putty pushes around the corner of the eyes, it's what happened when I used my dolls original eyes (the putty I got from them was green, so extra visible) When I got at Think Pink I bought a size larger which fit perfectly. So a little gap doesn't bother me to much, but a big gap does.

    6. I prefer well-fitting without any gaps. I actually choose eyes by myself, instead using their company or random eyes because I like Kanis-Augen better and people can buy glass eyes with various iris/pupil size from this company. And another factor that I found, is high dome glass eyes can cause gaps and have to use putty fix nicely. And some company recommends can't help either. Many companies sell glass eyes which actually bigger than it should be, even though it's said the right size.

    7. Even though I love the eyes that came with my Ryoma, they are a problem. I kept fiddling and fiddling, from jumbled to staring to almost, almost fine... If it weren't for those gaps. Then, gaps gone but pop-out effect. For now I've put them aside and am using the gift eyes instead. Kudos to you all who somehow make the magic happen and bring'em eyes to life :aheartbea!

    8. SAME! This really really bothers me. I had to photoshop it out of every picture because I was too lazy to change it for a really long time.

The gap is very frustrating to me. It's very hard for me to find eyes I like because of this.

    9. I just found out they make pinkish colored silicone ear plugs. I think it is perfect for those eyes that leave gaps but are perfect otherwise. With the pink silicone peeking out, it looks like the inside of a normal eye.

    10. I'm with Jacobean on this one. Eye-gaps are one of those little imperfections that'll just drive me absolutely batty. :vein

    11. They have to be just the right size and color for me to be happy. No gaps, either.

    12. Gaps drive me 100% mad, but so do eyes that don't sit perfectly in their spots. There has to be a certain level of white showing or else it looks completely off and it bothers me until I take the eyes out and put new ones in. I'll probably run through 100 pairs of eyes before I find the right ones for my next doll. I got lucky with Ivy and found the perfect pair on the first try, but man I am not looking forward to the next one. Gaps, man...

    13. My Pukifee's eyes are a bit big for her head. I got her preloved and the owner has HUGE eyes for her. I mean they fit her and make her look adorable, it's just they're set so deep in her head!

    14. I was just thinking that with the pink silicone (for inner eye flesh?) and the small gaps it would look more natural. Especially if you need the smaller iris and can't afford the more expensive eyes.

    15. Yes! The eyes have to fit perfectly!

    16. If I can avoid it I'd rather have eyes that fit perfectly... Gaps are really bothersome, if not in real life then at least in photos and that's an actually pretty big deal to me...

    17. Eye gaps are my number one pet peeve! Some dolls are very hard to fit, too - beveling doesn't help, softglass eyes don't fit correctly, etc. Sometimes, you just have to try lots of different eyes until something fits, or resculpt the sockets to suit a particular pair of eyes.

    18. Gaps don't bother me much as long as the putty isn't some obnoxious color.

My boy has two different colored eyes and the company was being stupid and made one a higher dome than the other. So it makes a gap in there while his other eye sits perfectly.

Doesn't bother me much now, but when I first got it I was pretty mad.
