    1. I love that outfit! It's so cute! And the wig is adorable, too. The goggles are a nice touch. :)

    2. Shes amazing Cymorill, great work!

    3. Cymorill she is beautiful and your sore fingers are well worth it!

    4. Thanks! I'm so critical of my own work, and it always looks so awesome in my mind.

Yeah.... um.... yes it was! That's it. ;)

She's borrowing Lucien's goggles; she really needs a pair of her own. They're made from cheap watches. I saw a tutuorial for it here on DOA a few years ago.

    5. Great work Cymorill. The whole ensemble is very nice but I do love your blouse.

    6. I love the blouse too! I have such a hard time getting the right amount of poof on sleeves, but yours is just perfect.

    7. Thanks. :) I often have too much poof and have to take the sleeves it a little, especially with the long-sleeved shirts (love those poet-style sleeves!). Today I started sewing Rylin's outfit.... So far he has a nice deep purple shirt with flounce that, while it will look nice once he has his waistcoat and pants, so far looks like something a Victorian pimp might wear... and yet with his purple hair he somehow makes it look awesome. :P It's so hot, it's hard to muster up enough energy to do anything but sit in front of the air conditioner and sew. :( Can't wait until winter.

    8. I have spent the last month playing catch-up for three swap outfits that were due August 4th and 6th, so I've been missing reading the posts on this thread. *hugs everyone* I missed everyone while I was gone, but the outfits that I made I'm pretty proud of. Since I hand-sew, don't use a pattern and have to try everything on dolls that are clost to the size of the ones I was making the outfits for, it took forever to figure out how to make what I saw in my mind.

What I did all summer when I wasn't hosting or going to Meetups

I ended up messing up the original and Lace pants shown in that thread trying to put in scrapbooking grommets so I made the swap partner a new pair of pants with a snap instead, which I literally finished a few hours ago. *whew* I covered up the holes I trashed in the original L&L pants with extra vinyl and poked smaller holes in them and laced through some leather cord. I think I'm going to work on them a little more and then sell them on ebay or something.

In the meantime, I have scrapmaking grommets I can't use. I even went light on hammering them with no use, they still get all bent out of shape. I tried on a scrap piece of vinyl tonight, and ended up with misshapen footballs instead of nice, round grommets. :doh What am I doing wrong? is it the fact that I'm hammering them on a piece of cardboard on a concrete floor? Maybe I'll look into getting a grommet plier-thingie instead, will one work on the lighter metal of a scrapbooking grommet? :?

Cymorill, (I think that's who was asking) about grommets, there is a chain of stores in Ohio and Michigan and PA called 'Pat Catan's" that sells craft things. They make Michael's look like the expensive yet understocked stores that they are (IMVHO). I got all kinds of little containers of grommets in different colors and metals along with the (stupid, useless) grommet tool for around $6. I think each container has something like 20 grommets each in them for a total of around 100 grommets and backs...not exactly sure of the number. But I can look into them for you if you're still interested.

Anyway, I'm glad to be back!

Next sewing project, modifying Chiyoko's new dress I got at a Doll Show this past Sunday. I'm thinking of putting on black ribbons and tiny purple roses that I've had for a while stored....somewhere....*_*

    9. Cymorill-she is adorable! you have mad skills to do that all by hand. i think the sore fingers are worth it:)

i need some help with a body. i just got a beryl hooved body and her hoof locks are not working. the hock slides out of place and then the body catapults forward from the hips. i know previous owner had problems because i found hot glue residue in the hips. any suggestions?

i made a dress for my girl to wear to a meet. i did not take her as i think she would be far outclassed with the other local talent. but i think she is pretty. prejudiced.... lol! theme was Labyrinth.

    10. Ryuichi - I used the smallest size regular sewing grommets for a pair of pants and they did the same thing :( Most annoying!

Fushia Lace - Wow you must hang with a pretty amazing crowd if that pretty outfit would be outclassed! Did you make your mask as well?

    11. Yah, what Kolombe said!

    12. Fushia Lace --yowsa, what the others have said! And, seriously, I've seen some amazing outfits...! But every outfit is different, and I'm sure yours would have been appreciated, even if there were some crazy-elaborate other outfits there. It's not all about having the most amazing outfit, after all. And people all have different ideas about what they like. Your outfit looks fabulous to me! :)

    13. I love everyone's latest efforts, Cymorill that outfit is fantastic, and I am waiting for photos of Rylin's outfit!

I don't know anything about grommets sorry :( but people use them a lot, so maybe someone will come up with the goods?

      Fuschia Lace
      - that is fantastic

Ryuichi Sakuma 13 - like most in the sewing thread, I am very impressed with the dog outfit... Woof!

and on Fuschia Lace outclassing her own work and Cymorill being over critical, maybe we should all post some disasters if we have evidence so peeps can get a bit of perspective?? Maybe look at your earliest efforts and see how far you have come, I read somewhere on DoA about trying to view your own work through the eyes of a stranger? Maybe that would work?

I am working on a swap outfit now that is nearly ready to go (probably finish it today). I knitted a really bad jumper (I think sweater or jersey are appropriate replacement words for what non Australians call it) from a DollsWestDesign Free Pattern (here it is all mishappen tension and all)

I think I could do better now that I attempted the first run. I have also started trying some puki sized knitting and did my first attempt at knitting in the round for little diameters, not sure I like it (knitting in the round) but puki sized knits are so cute, I might have to sacrifice a little...

Speaking of Puki Sized... I am still waiting on QBerry to arrive I found out that with normal Air Mail (Internation Priority I think) USPS Tracking shows what happens in the States and then I don't see anything after and I can't track the number here in Australia Post's site. So I know she left Chicago on the 8th August, but no QBerry visiting yet. I feel like going on a little rampage to wherever she is laying waiting in a box being ignored by customs or postal workers, but maybe I will just try knitting again, that seems to make me swear loads and should therefore be cathartic in some way?! Right?

      Erm... *waves to everyone*
      Hi Hi!
Happy Doll Stuff to all :D

    14. Thank you! Yes, we have some very serious talent up here. I think if I tried to do what Q said and look at it through a strangers eyes, I might be better.

Q- There is no evidence of earlier works lol! I tend to dispose of them... erm, bury the evidence if you will:) Thank you for the much needed advise. Your sweater is adorable! I don't think I would have the patience to work in scale that small. Hope your baby gets home soon.

april- Thank you! I have not sewn a whole piece in years. My sewing machine has seen more mending than anything else:(

      dhawktx- Thank you!

Kolombe-Thank you! Yep, made the mask. Good old tissue paper, glue and water lol!

    15. Thanks everyone! I'm pretty pleased with her dress so far, but I'm having trouble finding/deciding on a trim for the over skirt.... Just don't know what I want.

Ryu- I don't use the kind of grommets/eyelets that have a backing, just the ones that sort of star out when they're pounded down. Never had a problem with them, and I use them for everything I can.

Fushia Lace- Wow, I love her dress and mask! Hey, can you post a picture of the legs where they slip? Maybe I can give you a little help with that. :)

Quanita- I don't think I have anything that's really bad that I've made. IF something does manage to hold my interest long enough to finish it, that's a good sign. If I can start to tell that something isn't going to turn out well, I usually abandon it before finishing it so it never reaches the fail phase. Some of my first face-ups are pretty aweful, though, looking back at the pictures. I think your sweater is really cute, BTW.

Rylin's outfit is nearing completion! But seriously, is there anything more frustrating than tryingto make a pants pattern, adjust the seam allowance, and try on the material that's only bee npinned and not yet sewn on a doll with extremely kicky legs? I don't know why Rylin is such a kicker.... My other KDF boy body isn't, and they're both the same! I even restrung him this morning. He's been sueded twice, and bot htime sit actually made him worse! Fortunately he's my best sitter and gets all the really great casual/comfy sitting poses, but getting the guy into a pair of pants!!!!! He's wearing half his outfi right now.... Brown corderoy short-pants/knickers (I don't know the proper name) and purple striped stockings and his nice brown shoes. With that classy Victorian-esque look he's wearing a "Bejeweled 3" t-shirt while I'm sewing the buttons on his cloths. He looks strangely cute. He can also wear a flouncy purple blouse with jeans and converse in his punky white and purple hair and just look classy. I guess he's one of those dolls that looks great in anything he wears. I love Shiwoos!

On another note, I was showing Elizabeth to my co-worker and talking about her bodice and kept refferring to her breasts as boobies. He thinks it strange, but it's a word I like to say... When he asked me why, I just told him: "'Boobies' is a happy word to say outloud: it starts with a kiss and ends with a smile!"

    16. So many cute outfits! Everybody on this Thread is amazing in their own way, so it makes it so fun to 'hang out' here.

Cymorill, no wonder you own a Shiwoo - that explanation for using the word "boobies" seems like the sort of thing a Shiwoo would tell someone, giving them that cute little smirk of theirs at the end. :blush

    17. Here's Rylin in his shirt sans buttons (the little white things are pins)...

A few people have told me it looks very 70's. I missed the 70's, so I wouldn't know. :P The high angle of this photo makes him look like he has a giant head!

    18. Grommets The very tiniest (1/16") so far as I know can only be set with a hand grommet setter, which consists of an anvil and a setter. If you are NOT using an anvil and a setter then you will never get nice, round, properly set grommets.

For the 1/8" grommets, which is what most doll clothing uses, there is a scrapbooking tool called a Cropodile which makes beautifully set grommets, punches the right size hole for them, and also can punch through even light metal. I bought one and I could not be happier with it although it is rather expensive.

    19. i like the shirt. wasn't the 70's more of a pullover v-neck thing? i'm a 68 model and the 70's are a vague recollection. gotta say i love his pants:)

here is a pict of her hocks. i tried to get a pict of the locks on the inside but its too dark. as soon as you see the gap starting to widen like in the pict she flips forward from the hips. almost cracked me one the first time she did it.

Victoria Victrix-don't suppose you could put up a pict of that Cropodile tool could you? i use a small setter and a matt for my small grommets and i mangle 1 in 10. i mangle them so good it takes me like 15 minutes to get them out lol! thanks!
