1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

      FrozenRose- Happy belated Birthday!

      Stormlight- Sooo Cute!!!!!!

i just got done with the Under the Big Top. whew was that a lot of sewing. but i can blame myself for that one as i designed it. i don't want to see red for a while lol! went to a doll show on saturday. so funny as they had a small table for bjd clothes and two large groups of bjd's for sale. that never happens. i missed some of the earlier group that was there as i came late. got some great old lace and a small baby carriage in goth style. stop me from finishing the basket in black and making black baby bedding for it. now that i don't have a sewing project that has to get done, i don't know what to start next O.o

    2. Woot! I gained my Limited Marketplace Access Badge today! lol... I have been really enjoying DOA, what a great community to be a part of. I was very happy when I was accepted to join in the first place, but have already met some wonderful people in the short time I have been here. :) Looking forward to many years of sharing in the community!

    3. Congrats on getting Marketplace access... It's SOooooOOOooo dangerous to your wallet, though, so beware! :D

    4. amen to that - just bought a leeke wein head on there lol ;)

    5. FrozenRose -- there's a Yahoo group called BJDfs that provides a second-hand market. Just be sure to read the rules before posting.

    6. Hey, y'all!

I'm new around here, but I've already spent WAY too much money on this hobby! (A small inheritance came and went... sigh.) And what have I got to show for it? One SD with bits and pieces of clothing--some of which I made myself. All the rest I'm waiting for. I made an inventory in Excel, listing what I've got and what I've purchased that hasn't come yet, and most of the list is marked as waiting. But hopefully there will be stuff coming this week, including an Elfdoll Wu I won on eBay last night. (Whee!)

Anyway, since we're "older" in this group, I've got a question... do your kids/friends/spouses/coworkers/etc. think you're weird for "playing with dolls?"

My daughter has been rolling her eyes, but her own boyfriend overruled her tonight and told her I deserved to have my own hobbies. (I think I like this boy! LOL)

    7. Harley....Mine have mixed reactions. Some of my coworkers are like Oo? Others are like @_@, WTHisit...Sister and mom seem to understand it, dad thinks there stupid waste and all that messed up crap. Though my dad is also a total douche bag to begin with. My sister has actually gotten interested in them and considered maybe a Blythe for at least something to start with to sort of maybe getting the feet wet.

When I take some of them out on the town with me, I do get some odd looks, but I do also get a lot of 'what are they' and various other questions. I actually recently took my boys Tsuna and Tiashe to the local thing called Arts, Beats and Eats and walked around with them. Security gave me a strange look when they looked in my bag (they check for outside alcohol and stuff like that at the entrance), but I wasn't phased by it, dealing with the occasional security thing at Greyhound Station's and such. Got stopped a few times by folks or got artists who where at the event asking about them, though the most interesting reaction was from the small group of deaf artists that where there. Like two interpreters had to help convey my answers to the artists as they sort of bombarded me several questions, and Tiashe got petted on the hair a few times ('His hair feels like kitty fur...so soft and fuzzy' was one reply I got about his wig). They where fascinated with the dolls I had with me and asked a lot of questions.

    8. This I can picture very well! The first time I saw a BJD was at a gathering of people doing Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month). I was fascinated too, and determined to get one myself until I checked some of the prices. Then I was fascinated and aghast. Anyway, artist type people certainly seem to have a greater appreciation for things out of the ordinary.

    9. Welcome HarleyGirl and congrats on the MP access eroller. Definitely a great resource but also mos dangerous. The think I like about the MP is there is no waiting for the doll to be made before it ships to me :)

    10. Kudos, erellor! I remember being really, really eager to finally get access to the MP - and as soon as I did get it, I shelled a character I'd never planned to shell because I came across this perfect head on the MP ;)... Be warned: Hic sunt leones!

Welcome, HarleyGirl! I don't have a spouse or kids who can criticise my dolly, um, habit, but my sister and my parents do look at me funny. They're not nasty about the dolls, but they do shake their heads at me, with my father saying things like, "Surely, Sigune, that is not an occupation for a grown woman, is it?" Outside of my close family, only my closest friends know I have BJDs. One of them is indifferent, one finds them creepy, and one kind of likes them and helps me find things for them. Coworkers? They don't need to know :/. They'd probably think me a complete weirdo.

Incidentally, it's going to rain dolls this week and the next... After months of waiting, two orders have shipped at the same time, plus my MP acquisition is coming in. What joy! :D

    11. thessalyrose - thanks for the info ... I'll check them out :sweat

had a very nice birthday surprise this morning - a shipping notice for my DZ Fei-head, he was posted today and will be here tomorrow *yay* ... he'll have to body share with Ralphy and get a craptastic faceup by me but at least I managed to get him before he was discontinued
Still no news from the Sergei seller :(

yay Sigune, can't wait to see pics :)

My dad makes fun of me and calls them my 'dollies' - not in the way we say it though, more in a patronising piss-taking way, but I just make some smart-ass come back lol. My mother and nan think they're kind of cute though - my nan was quite impressed with how posable and detailed they are. My best friend teases me about my 'resin addiction' as he calls it but not in a mean way or anything - other than them no-one else knows about my hobby ... not that I go out of my way to hide it or anything its just I lead a pretty quiet life, and I'm self employed so I have no co-workers :)

    12. Guh. I made myself all "sad panda" today... :(

NCSoft decided last week that they were going to pull the plug on City of Heroes; my favorite MMO. (That's the game that Kestrel and Cardinal are from... the two characters that I *just* got my LittleFee "chibi" versions of a few weeks ago.) I made the mistake of going over to the offical forums and reading a few of the dev's goodbye threads. Depressing stuff for all of them, and for a lot of us players, too... It's an eight year-old game with one of the most devoted communities I've ever seen, and that really shows through in a lot of what's been written. 'Made me cry, damnit. :...(

Usually I'd jump on-line and play around with Palrah (Another of my City characters- My first and usually my "go-to" when I just want to bust a few digital heads-) to work out some of the disappointment and frustration of not being able to do much about the situation, but I just don't have the heart to.

'Think I'm going to go play with the "real" one, instead.

The servers going dark will take the original version away from me...

... but this one they can't touch.

And after I'm done with some closet clearing, I think I'm going to go over to Iplehouse and start looking at potential EID versions of Kes and Cardinal, too. :|

    13. Thanks everyone! I am excited, but yes... will be paying my bills before going nuts in the Marketplace! I started exploring it last night and had to rein myself in... no dolly money right now... don't even look! :)

Brightfires - I love your fella... He's amazing. At least you will always have him there as a reminder of what a great time you had during those 8 years. My husband went thru the same thing not long ago with his MMO. it was pretty sad. You build up all these relationships with folks from all over the world... and then it was over. But you will meet some of them in another game I am sure, and until then, you have your magnificent dolly versions to bring a smile to your face and warm memories to your heart.

    14. Thanks. And true, that...

Fact is, I'm going to miss chatting and running around with the "usual suspects" on Liberty (my home server-) just as much as I'll miss playing with Kes and Pally and the rest of my own characters. While we will run across each other elsewhere in many cases... Many of us do have other games. Aion in my case. Secret World, Champions, GW2 and Old Republic for a lot of others... What we do together there won't ever be quite the same as gathering up a league of 48 four-color costumed superheroes and kicking the absolute crud out of an endless supply of freaky Rikti aliens. There are just some things that City does that no other game comes close to matching. After eight years, that's why so many of us still loved it.

And yeah, my favorites getting to be dolls makes me grin. I may even see what one of the 3D printer folks has to say about the possibility of Tedros-sized Adept armor. 'Can't have a "grown up" Cardinal drifting around without his helmet and properly spikey armor bits, after all. It just wouldn't be properly Mu. ^_^

    15. What fun!!! Pictures, please. :-)

    16. Brightfires... FABULOUS wings! Good photo too!

My dolls represent (or will represent, when they get here) characters from my novels. I guess I could worry about my editor changing character details... but the dolls will adapt, I'm sure! Uhh... my editor doesn't know about the dolls yet! I think she thought I was a little strange when I went out and bought a motorcycle just like the bike another of my characters rides. (BTW, that book is called "Running Lean," and it'll be out next spring. SOOOO excited about that! My first publication!)

    17. Darlin', that's called RESEARCH! LOL!

    18. Thanks. ^_^

Syrinxfox made those wings for me a few years ago, for a completely different doll. She's done some pretty amazing sets. (She used to have a gallery thread somewhere here with all the wings she'd done-) They're definitely one of my favorite "doll-things", and I'm glad their scale works so well with the big guy.

ETA: Here's Syrinxfox's DA wing gallery:

And a better picture of the ones Pally wears-

    19. Oh, too bad about COH. I stopped subscribing a while ago, but I have to say that the character creation art has been my favorite of all MMOGs. I pretty much started playing because the characters looked so cool! But as I suck at playing games, I haven't gotten that attached... although I DID have some pretty cool-looking characters in there, if I do say myself!

About having odd hobbies... I've always had them, so I'm usually pretty discrete about them (basically keep 'em to myself and to those who share the interests), and I usually don't get hassled. I don't want to bore others with them, and I also don't want to let others opinions stop me from enjoying myself. Why do others need to approve of what I like??? There's something wrong with that, I think. It's fair that I don't push it in their faces, too. I have other things I like and can talk about and do, after all. And the reverse is true-- that just because I like something, it doesn't mean that everyone in my life HAS to like it too!

    20. Brightfires- he is gorgeous! and those wings are incredible.
