1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. I don't take my dollies to work because I have an average of 28 adolescent students in the classroom all day plus kids dropping in and wouldn't be able to keep my eye on them.

    2. I work from home (graphic designer, suck at it though) and I never bring my dolls to work, lol. As for friends and family, I have gotten the "You want to spend how much on what?" kind of thing from the few members of family who know anything about it, and once my mom told me I needed to have a baby so I could stop playing with dolls. (She knew perfectly well that I want a baby and probably can't have one.) But I sculpted art dolls and hung around with dollmakers for years before I started collecting bjds, so my friends only think it's weird because they think I should make them myself. I kind of think they're right, so I'm working on one. :)

    3. thessalyrose - looking forward to seeing your sculpt :sweat

I'm also a girl gamer ... I get lots of stick for being into 'guy stuff' (comics, video games, that kind of stuff), for some reason it's always just rolled right off me - I like what I like, and the way I look at it I'd rather be on my death-bed content knowing that I'd enjoyed my life than regretting bowing to peer pressure and not indulging my interests =)
I think it's interesting to meet guys into this hobby - I totally wouldn't judge (in fact if I could just meet an available one )

and OMG!!! I got my Sergei (grail doll) :D Glad I didn't ping the seller - death in the family was why the late reply *praising my patient nature* I'm happy to wait for him now I know he's been pretty much tagged as mine

    4. :)I bought my frist vmf50. I hope she gets here befor l go for surgery.

    5. Right now, my Toy Photography is more of a hobby that I would like to turn into a full blown profession. I've been working on improving my photography for five years now, though. I'll have to post a link once I get my new website up and running.

    6. Excellent Alrick! Photography is one reason a lot of us get into the hobby.

    7. FrozenRose - Glad you heard back from that seller and got your Grail!

Photography is something I stink at. I guess if I had a camera not a cell phone, it would be a good place to start!

    8. thanks erellor :sweat

the dolls are the reason I finally upgraded to a professional level camera after years of wanting to but not feeling like financially it was worth while (due mostly to living in a crappy neighbourhood - if I go out with the camera I'd be mugged within minutes lol so there's not much else to take pics of) but the resins insisted - in fact Hazy just wouldn't accept having her pic taken with my little digital

Can I ask you guys something - I'm almost at my paypal limit and I'm really aprehensive about lifting the limits as I've been burned before on direct debit stuff so I was wondering how others felt about the security of paypal and giving out their bank details?

    9. I keep my 'paypal account' totally separate from any of my 'real money'. I've heard the horror stories and it's not worth it. If the amount is greater than your limit, you might try having them send you an invoice. When you go to pay it, at the bottom of the text in teensy letters is a link you can select that allows you to pay with a CCard (or debit card AS CCard) instead of your PayPal acct. This info is NOT stored in the system and allows me to pay the invoice without giving the vendor my card info OR tying the card to a Paypal acct.

I just make sure that I ignore the nag line that invites me to pay with Paypal next time!

    10. Word. 'LOTS of photography folks around here.

While dolls didn't exactly start my own photography interests (I've been doing landscape and floral photography for ages-), they've certainly become a big part of it. The resin "minions" pretty much owned by DA gallery for awhile there.

    11. I'm another gamer...and I am totally devastated by the shutting down of City of Heroes (though I am one of those who is not going down without a fight).

For those of you who don't get it...cause it's only a game, right?...imagine this:

Tomorrow Mattel puts out a BJD Barbie. EVERY other doll company announces they are shutting down. If you already ordered and paid for something that didn't ship yet, too bad.

And a government agent comes to your house and collects every BJD you own. It doesn't matter if you try to hide them, they have a BJD detector, and off they go.

Then they tell you to go buy Barbies. Cause BJDs are "only dolls" and Barbies are shinier, newer and better.

      Yeah. Like that.

    12. Oh... Yeah, sorry about that. I really don't judge (not into that at all), but I can see how my words looked like that. It's one of those cases where I'm typing fast answers and not thinking of all the ramifications that can be drawn from the words...

I know guys with dolls. A fair amount of guys. So I know some guys are cool with dolls. I also know people who don't like dolls at all--both male and female. But really, most guys aren't exposed to dolls much, so more of them are uncomfortable with the whole Uncanny Valley thing, whereas most girls are used to having dolls thrust at them from a young age--or at least plushies with big button eyes that can stare at you equally... But that doesn't mean that all guys and girls are this way. My sister freaks at the dolls, for instance. And my nephew, too. I don't. And I like typical guy stuff like action figures and would play shooters during lunch at the office and not mind blowing things up (although I was also girly and liked playing the Medic... mostly because I was the worst at aiming and killing that you would ever encounter--and purely because I was a spazz and not because I was squeamish... and yeah, the "girly" comment is stereotyping... I was just kidding. One of the girls at the computer game company could out-kill almost all the guys--and she WAS squeamish about the blood... turned the gore WAY down. Everyone was amused that little, easily grossed-out Tracy--she even hated animating ugly monsters for the games-- could just wipe out everyone in the game with glee!) Anyway... you can see that I will not be terribly PC about some things. I think some things are more girly and some very boy, but that doesn't mean they are bad or good or that everyone has to fall in line somewhere one way or another. BUT that doesn't really come over online in small answers, so I DO apologize for any misconceptions!

Oh.. and one of my male coworkers is TOTALLY into bjds. He was one of the first to have bjds in the area--in 2002 or so-- and is still into them. I've been friends with him for years-- before we had bjds in common. He's a great art director, modeler and animator--and has gone to Pennsic and been in SCA for years and was doing fan art way back in the dark ages, at the same time I was... We were into the whole SF/F thing and both artists.

Anyway--HE wasn't sharing the whole doll thing at the office, either! Not that others wouldn't have been interested... (I've subsequently shared the doll hobby thing with other friends who used to work at the same companies--but even Tracy wasn't into dolls--she liked animals--like unicorns!)... but that it didn't seem to be a good fit at the office, even in a very accepting atmosphere. Not that it would be a BAD thing, but really, it was a computer game company... and not the kind doing Barbie games, either. So a bit of stereotyping is sometimes wise when it comes to knowing what would fit in or not. There really wasn't any call for dolls to be at the office. We could say the action figures were inspiration for making monsters and armor and such. And a TON of people had action figures around. Anyway... it's all a bit of a fine line... It's just an instance of me feeling that I only want to share some aspects with some people... Mostly guys and being at work and the kind of work we were doing... I was easier with bonding over action figures and Lord of the Rings and going to ComicCon and E3 than thrusting dolls at them--even with some guys there who might be really into dolls.

dhawktx--Thanks for helping me explain it! :D

Understood. I think you are fantastic for being able to buck the stereotypes and go ahead and do what you want to do. Just by being here, you help get rid of the stereotypes. Thanks for speaking up about it. :)

The computer games industry, way back when, was very male-dominated. And I've always hung about with tons of guys... Gamers are mostly guys, too. And even artists for games are mostly guys... So I know guys. I know they are all as different as any individuals. I really don't think about stereotyping them, even though I may say stuff that seems to infer that. Heheh. Like the whole geek and nerd thing. Geesh. That does not fit 'em, either... or at least not all of 'em (or us, since I was in with them, liking the same stuff, and many here are into the same thing). But there ARE folks who fit types more than others and types do tend to describe some people...

I agree, though, that stereotyping is bad. All people who like dolls are not the same. All males are not the same, etc. I don't fit into so many groups that I sorta hang out with that I should know... :)

--Oh, hey, what card games did you play? I've done work for a number of 'em... probably not the more popular ones, though. *sigh* Only a couple of Magic cards to my credit, sadly. I did some work on paper rpgs, too, but not in years...

==And, gah... babble on much??? Sorry...!

    13. Yay, I'm offically in this club now [turned 31 a month ago]

    14. Well, Officially WELCOME missne!

    15. My vmf50 girl is on her way home now. The more l do reseach the more these girl's become interesting etc.

    16. I'm happy I'm finally getting to downgrade my girl from a DDdy to a regular DD! I should have the new body next week! :D

    17. Does everyone else have these temporary Halloween stores that pop up about this time of year? My husband and I went to one on Monday and they had these adorable little laser gun keychains. They looked just like the one in Alrick's profile picture, which is what reminded me. I was sorely tempted, but it's really best to keep any kind of weapons out of Cleo's hands. Anyone else find any cool Halloween stuff in doll scale?

    18. Man, the only store that had it when I saw was ONE Hot Topic at a very far away distance from me. I checked all the local stores around me and nothing. Now you are telling me that they are everywhere? Just my luck... :o

    19. Alrick, it just depends on the time of year. availability is cyclical!

I just got in some 3D printed Fine Ultra Detail fencing swords for my CLines.

They didn't do well in the Texas heat. They'll straighten up, but it's gonna be a bit of work!

    20. Two things to check religiously for doll scale accessories. Halloween stuff and Christmas Ornaments. I just scored some SD size Uggs as a Christmas ornament for $3.50 (half price from $7.00 at Holly Lobby).
