1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. The San Diego thing is just one day. It's small (maybe 30 or so? although one hopes it will grow!), but there's usually a nice diorama to take doll photos with, and a contest, and gifts... and some vendors. Last year or two had Ms Cholong with DollHeart items, and PamSD and PixieDust Designs.

Here's the post in the News section:
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...-Annual-San-Diego-BJD-Mini-Con-Sat-Nov-3-2012

the several day cons are few and far between... The one up in Marin Co. in May was 2 days, but I don't know if it will be held again. There used to be a fairly big con held in San Francisco, but they seem to have stopped. The Austin BJDC seems to be the only big con going these days--that that's only every 2 years...

    2. gah... double-post! sorry.

    3. Thank you for the info.
SD is quite a drive for me from Ventura, so when you said 1 day I thought ...blah, but it's the weekend after Halloween so I've got 5 days off, I think I'll go check it out. Small may be a good for my first bjd convention.

    4. In Dallas we've had DollAKon as part of AKon (anime) the first weekend of June for the last two years, but have not been able to have a separate dealer's room, so we focused on workshops (faceups, anthro blushing, making Tinies room boxes, plushies for your dollies) and panels with photo and costuming contests, as well as lots of prize giveaways. The main Con's Exhibitors Area, Artist Alley and Dealers rooms are sheer bedlam - luckily our rooms were away from the main area both years.

The Con goes to a new venue in Dallas next year (2013) but we still can't have a separate dealer's room till 2014, when we'll be about 30 days before BJDC - not sure how many dealers we'll be able to attract that close to BJDC, or even how BIG of a space we'll have.

Is there a central 'Con Calendar' somewhere on DOA?

    5. Hey, you made it to the thread at last! :) At least SanDiego is closer than San Fransisco... 2 1/2 hours with good traffic, so it' a good day trip rather than an over-night stay. And I'd like to add that if you pass through Temecula.... There's a Hobby Lobby right off the freeway! Have you ever been there? It makes our large Michael's look absolutely pathetic and tiny!

If there isn't than there should be. Or at least a listing by state.

    6. I sense that someone's gotten a friend to come into our group. ;)

Welcome, DancesWithDolls, just in case I've never had the chance to say that before now ... the way this Thread moves along sometimes, that just might have happened. :sigh

April - Your boy looks amazing ... and leaves me wanting to watch a bit of "Pirates of the Caribbean".

    7. It's sort of like a dolly Halloween for me, since they can dress up. The theme is Wild (weird) West (western/steampunk/supernatural). It IS a trek from Ventura... but can be done as a day trip. It's not a huge big thing, but it's a nice super-sized meetup. They've got their own rented space, so the dolls are safe. It's one room, so you can keep an eye on everything while you shop and sit and chat and snack on the food. There are little free gifts and door prizes. I've gone for the past 3 or so years... but then, it's only an hour and a half from where I am in Orange Co. And I like San Diego.

I've heard about A-kon for ages, and Doll-A-kon sounds fantastic. But a bit too far for me to travel to (what with my expenses gone having spent it on the BJDC). I do hope it continues to expand and be a lot of fun, though. Got to encourage the dolly events!

I just check "NEWS" and sometimes "Meetups/Events" for con news. There aren't really that many actual cons, which is probably why there's no separate category. The BJDC was it, really. Smaller Events like the CCBJD thing in May in CA, and Uncanny Valley up in the NW, and the San Diego Mini-con, and Doll-A-Kon... are about it for con-ish things. Then there's Soom going to the NYCC... and a few other non-BJD events that have bjd things at them... Cons with meetups and panels, etc. Usually those are in the Meetups/Events section...

I've never been to a Hobby Lobby... Too bad the one in Temecula isn't along my route... :(

There were two actual Jack Sparrow dolls at the BJDC. One was the fellow PamSD was commissioned to paint and sew and put together for someone (not sure who the owner is). He was absolutely fabulous!

      Here he is--

    8.
    9. Youre seriously making me want to go to this thing and i don't even have a damn doll yet lol

    10. We can fix THAT!

    11. Actually, DancesWithDolls left a comment on one of my Workshop thread and when I read it saw "Location: Ventura" and glommed on like some kinda crazy doll stalker. :)

Dunno yet.... I hate being poor, and I'm still paying down a $500 vet bill, but on the plus side my laptop is almost paid off! I've been thinking about it, though; I don't mind long drives, and I'll drive up to Cambria (about 3-4 hours each way) just to spend a couple hours in town/at the beach and get an ollaliberriy pie and then drive back... (As long as I'm driving, because I'm not a good passenger and get bored/motion sick/headaches looking out the window.) Maybe I'll stop somewhere that looks interesting, maybe I won't. It's partly a *gasp* socializing with people kind of thing as I'm not particularly social. I'm also one of those people who likes to do what they feel like doing, so it depends on what kind of mood I'm in.

      So.... maybe?

April- He looks so amazing! Is that custom outfit?

    12. Krazy doll stalkers rock.....didnt you know that? LOL

Yeah i can totally relate to the vet bills...they always seem outrageous no matter what it is. And pet insurance is a joke, unless theres some catastrophic accident.

Ok i have to ask, whats an ollaliberriy pie?

    13. An olallieberry is basically a hybrid between a raspberry and a blackberry... anyone who's seen my dolls knows how much I love hybrids! (see, I can keep it OT). They taste very tart and sweet at the same time and are hard to get. Super yummy. I planted one this year in my front yard, but the mockingbirds ate most of the fruit!

    14. *twitch* I tried to follow the berry family tree and now I am nuts. I think I've had too much sugar and caffeine today to unnerstand.

DancesWithDolls the best place for you to go is a con or a meet if you don't have a doll! First, you get to meet other crazy doll peeps to keep in touch with, you get to see all kinds of awesome dolls in person so you're not going totally by photos (which really rarely works for me, at least with size) AND you can get swept up in the excitement and blow all your money on an impulse-buy doll XD

Maybe not the greatest idea...but still fun!

    15. Hi all, welcome DancesWithDolls!Tonight I'm going to make Callum a pair of PJ bottoms. I'm going to have to figure out how to make jeans/dress pants for him because I have 2 lay-aways going and a whole pile of other expenses are piling up right now (parent's 60th anniversary party & gift, back to school stuff for the kids, tuition for my course this fall, dentist, optometrist etc...). No money for frivolous things like clothes for dolls. Luckily we have quite a fabric horde at home.I'll have to get some still pics of him soon as all I have up is the box-opening video.

    16. Haha!

So true.... It certainly does make one feel better about their own obsession! Maybe I should go join that discussion thread, just in case.

    17. Hey if you are driving to Cambria, maybe you should stop over in San Luis Obispo ;)

Since the cons are so few and far between, I really miss socializing with my lonesome up here. It's not easy for me to get away, so when I do I really want it to be worth my time. A drive to SD would be a little brutal for a day trip :(

I think it's time to host something on the Central Coast, eh?

    18. Yes, BE the Con you want to have!

    19. Tetradeka- Yes!

And on a totally unrelated note: since it's been too hot to do any modding work I've been going wig-making crazy! I've always read a lot about not being able to dye or bleach faux-fur, so I've never really messed with it, but I found a really nice white that takes a dye like nobody's business! As long as the water doesn't get too hot (it'll shrink up) and I brush it lightly before it dries, it turns out pretty nice. It won't go real dark, mind, but I can get those nice pastels. I now have pink and lavender, and I'm going to try a pale green and sky blue. I also have a stash of colored fur. This morning I made Lucien a red and black wig, and I'm going to redo the purple and white one of Rylin's to have more of the light purple. I love two-tone and multi-color wigs, especially the graduated colors!

    20. That Jack Sparrow is some sort of spiffy! :)
