1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. Cymorill: If you turn the finished wig inside out and dab 'silicone in a tube' on it then spread it all over the inside, once it cures you've got a no stain built in wig cap. I use it on ALL of my faux furr wigs.

    2. Oooooooo!!! Bet they stay on good and don't slide off, too! Can I get that at any hardware store?

    3. Yep, just make sure you get the sealant and not the adhesive (D'oh!) I clip a clothespin/hardware clip to the fur and hang it out of the way outside to cure (has a slight ammonia stink). Once it's not tacky any more - about 15 to 30 minutes here in Dallas in this heat - I hem the wig. I don't usually hem it first as it's easier to keep stray furr from getting into the goop.

    4. Thanks! I love this thread.... so helpful! :) Though I have to admit that I don't hem my wigs... too lazy, and the way I cut them they curve inward at the edges for a snug fit and don't show the fabric. I'll have to pick up some of that sealant to protect their little heads.

....Which reminds me that Rylin's pants have slightly stained/rubbed off on his belly and I need to clean him up. He also has a chip in the MSC on his chin and I'm debating whether I want to take the trouble to redo his face-up, touch up the chipped spot, or just leave it since it doesn't really show anyway. The boy needs a bath and a restringin -- I don't know how he gets so dirty!

I brought Rylin and Lucien to work with me today. Rylin is helping me polish the silver jewelry (so boring, which is why I'm doing it in front of the computer so I can chat with you lovely doll people), but Lucien is sitting on a shelf behind the counter playing his gameboy and couldn't care less.

    5. Hey that sounds like my kinda party! LoL

    6. I like to make a lot of my wigs with the 'hair' running up from the forehead, so a hem is pretty much required. It also seems to make them last longer. Oh! and if it's a bit loose after all that, I'll run some jeweler's clear elastic through the edge on the back, from behind the ear to behind the other ear. But the CLines' heads don't have enough resin at the back, so I STILL have to give them the hot glue halo of shame. THAT gives the wig something to stick on.

*le sigh* Horndog is getting so dirty, I was amazed when I noticed it. Him being a Beauty White doesn't help. So I've got to clean him as well as a doll that I bought on the MP who showed up with stains that weren't mentioned in the listing... when I asked about it? "Oh, he came to me that way." :x

Well, there you go! If a guy's gonna polish silver, he's gonna get dirty!

    7. I usually resort to velcro to keep wigs on... With my own substantial boobage if I'm carrying one of the boys in my arm his head might *ahem* rub and knock his wig off if it isn't secure. ;)

I thought it was time for a little spam! Here's Lucien in his new red/black wig and his very serious eyebrows! Ignore the scuff on the end of his nose; he took a face-plant onto the driveway a while ago and I haven't gotten around to touching it up. :P

And yes, that's a Darth Vader Lego guy on his shirt. He looks like he's leaning against the suit case, but he's actually standing up on his own and leaning back a little so the light hits his face.

    8. hello DancesWithDolls and Alrick!

april- your boy is stunning! sounds like everyone had a ton of fun at the Con. Con envy *sigh*

    9. Another killer wig.....very cool

    10. Hey all! Question about the silicon under the wig. That would help the staining of the head cap, but what can be done about staining on the ears, forehead, back of head?

    11. Don't use that wig!

Sorry, that's pretty much all I can come up with. I'd try washing the piece thoroughly and testing it with a clip/clothespin over a piece of white paper towel wrapped on the damp fiber to see if it comes off. If it does, toss the wig - it's not worth the danger to the doll. If it doesn't, try it on the doll again. If it still stains, again, toss it. Do everyone a favor and don't sell or give it to some unknowing individual who will then stain THEIR doll (I've seen it happen - it wasn't pretty!)

You MIGHT try adding sealant to the areas that were stained before using the wig again (after you de-stain as much as possible with Mr. Clean sponge and/or a q-tip with Windsor Newton brush cleaner).

    12. Companies always post a warning about possible staining with dark wigs, but you know I've never had one that did. *knocks on wood* You'd think that if the color came off enough to stain resin than you'd be able to bleach it, but nooooooo.

    13. Cymorill: It all depends on the pigment/dye and the fiber. Some pigments/dyes can't WAIT to jump from one item to the next...they just aren't that firmly 'bonded' to their carrier fiber (da wig). The biggest problem is that the worst offenders actually migrate THROUGH the resin (you do remember your chemistry class, right? ALL solids are just very thick liquids with micro-fissures) - that's why the Pit of Despair, better known as Sharpie Dollies, is so awful. Depending on the brand, even a covering coat of acrylic won't help because it will eventually bleed through THAT back to the surface!

    14. What's a sharpie dollie?

    15. That's (generally) a doll that's had a faceup or other marks added with a permanent sharpie marker instead of the now standard layers of sealant, pastels and/or paint. Many beginners and folks who had no access to places like the DOA tutorials have made the mistake of using sharpies. Some folks have done it intentionally as an artistic statement. For whatever reason they do it, the pigments in sharpies ARE permanent and will even 'migrate' in the resin, leading to a sort of lighter halo of the color around the sharpie marks.

    16. Man, I love how helpful you guys are! /tears of joy

I Love the silicone inside the wig idea, that's something that I will try for sure.

    17. You're welcome! Just make sure you get the clear sealant instead of the adhesive, and let it cure COMPLETELY before you put it on the doll. I kinda messed up my first tiny not doing it right. Since it is covered by his wig, he forgave me.

    18. Not with any doll I'VE had! looks like the neck is MUCH too big for the well in the head.

    19. Um.... I don't think so. Is that a hybrid? What kind of doll is it?
