1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

DoD "Parting Line" Problem

Jan 3, 2006

    1. Exactly. Moreover, this may be the wrong hobby for some of them. ^^;;

    2. I sent the message to DOD cyworld club's owner.
      I translated Korean to English so, some parts are
      use wrong English;;
      ----------------------------------------------------
      Hello, roolee09(<-my name...;;)

      I heared about refute that remove parting line problem to
      owner of English site. They got so many mails about that.
      We are sending limited DOT with no parting line.
      Before we wrote the notice, we sent dolls without parting line,
      but we can't do it right now because
      it takes too much times so it makes delay the shipping.
      and there are many people sending mail to us
      don't remove the parting line.

      We never said send dolls without parting line formality
      except Limited dolls.

      we always send dolls without parting line before, but now.. can't.
      We understanding the arguments so people have objection.
      But if this problem is continue to protest it,
      the problem is becoming shopping mall is maintenace or not.

      Other BJD companies do not send their doll remove parting line too.

      It does not metter with doll's quality without parting lines or not.
      so, we hope customers are understanding our problem.

      thank you
      -------------------------------------------------------------
      yha.. I'm not good at English...-_-;;
      I'm so sorry for that.
      I can't translate well... I can understand it but I don't know
      other people can understand my English...
      anyway, he gave the answer. if they remove the parting lines,
      it makes delay the shipping.
      I think there has a option that can choose remove parting lines or not.
      aren't they?;

    3. ROOLEE!!! I love you *___*
      So, looks like the limited ones are sanded as promised and that they did not promise sanding on the standards.... or I understood wrong?

    4. no, you are right.^ ^

    5. First of all: Please, please, please don't do anything that will make DOD stop selling internationally. These are but their first set of 60cm dolls, who knows what will come next. I'm apalled that the first people who were lucky enough to be able to order in the first few rounds of sales would ruin it for THE REST OF THE WORLD. I need to get a boy body from them and I'll fly there to get it if I have to, but this display of selfishness better not be the reason I have to. Sad, very sad.

      I want to check on one other thing. Have any of the displeased parties thought about apologizing to DOD? Or written an apology plus asking if a fee could be paid to get the sanding done with the understanding that it may take even longer? That is what I would do if seams bothered me.

      I really am willing to send out sandpaper to anyone who is not sure what to use (unless I get a bajillion requests-I'm not rich). I work in a store that sells hardware and can get anything from 320 grit sandpaper to 1500 grit mirror finish (made to sand resin on cars- great stuff!).

    6. You see i wonder if there is a slight difference even between English speaking Countries, i'm not being flippant but you know the saying "the British now how to queue" well i know how to wait, i paid 9 weeks ago and then i just wait, the same as with my Unoa which took 6 months, i never sent a single email, i just....wait. Also i have a low paid job but i expect to receive the same amount of respect as i give to everyone else (although of course respect has to be earned) i work in Customer Service but wouldn't tolerate rudeness from a Customer.

      Of course i am still desperate to receive my Tan Shall and Carmine but i will sit and wait :-D BTW this isn't directed to anyone in particular its just a thought:-D

    7. Maybe i use wrong word to translate it.
      they didn't mean they will close their online shopping shop
      because of the complaine. They try to do their best,
      but everytime they get trouble,
      they think about what to do for customer, be pleased.
      so they have some rest and fix the problem.

    8. From what I recall, Blue Fairy didn't stop selling internationally because of problems with International customers. They stopped because the US$ dollar was falling so badly that they wouldn't be making much money after the conversion rate. They had posted that reason on their website.

    9. Didn't "dollfies" start out as model kits? Resin model kits for a build-it-yourself doll?

      I am not sure of the exact history of how dollfies developed, but in the "figure" world, you buy a kit and customize it yourself, or buy a finished figure on the secondary market from someone who does better customizations than you do.

      The fact that now a lot of companies now offer to fulfil some of their own secondary market is somewhat of a hybrid anyhow, because as many people here have already stated, these dolls are meant to be customized...always have been.

      There is one company that, for about $1000.00 will sit you down and cater to all your preferences, and ship you a complete finished doll in 2-3 months, and that is the creators of Dollfie, Volks. Volk's Full Choice System. They have showrooms in Japan, a few other countries that I am not sure of, and Torrance, California.

      If a company decides to stop offering a customization service (in this case, one that we didn't have to pay for to begin with) then do it yourself or hire someone else to do it. If you can't deal with that, or don't want to pay to have someone customize your doll for you, then maybe this hobby is too much work or too expensive for you. Why are you in this hobby?

      If you want to "collect dolls" then find some "collector dolls" to be interested in...there are many to choose from...they come finished with painted faces and clothed and wrapped in plastic.

      If you feel "cheated" that DoD no longer sands their doll seams, then politely ask them to cancel your order because you made your purchase based on having that free service. And in the future, if you are having difficulty dealing with international business, maybe you should find something local to patronize.

      I for one do not appreciate having the relationship with my kit provider jeopardized by the kind of rudeness and entitlement attitude I have seen here.

    10. Cut off 4-6 weeks delivery time and taking 2-4 hours to sand it yourself.. is there really an argument there? D: I WISH that when I had my Tender Too coming, this was the case.

    11. :p After sifting through pages and pages of absurdity it's nice to see some people can still retain a sense of humor and more importantly, something good to look forward to rather than complaining about something that's already come to pass.

      Mods please feel free to delete the next bit if it's a bit too much on the bitchy side...

      As for naysaying and complaints about business ethics and such, come on, don't be so unrealistic and use your head! A free service is going to go away in order to run a tighter ship. And might I remind you a ship that ultmiately didn't have to sell internationally to begin with, and if you want to argue about that topic (ie. well if you're gonna sell internationally then you have to learn to deal with the expectations of the intl. customers wah wah wah and every other argument that could be had about foreign businesses selling to other countries outside their normal clientele...) then go talk to some Unoa fans and see what services or perks they would "give up" in order to just buy a Unoa directly...

      Yet all the complaining is so typical of people (American or not, BTW). I'm sure part of the reason why so many people turned to DOD was due to the free sanding and look what such a nice gift has gotten DOD: they realized finally that their thoughtfulness and conscientiousness are eventually going to put them in a hole not to mention the fact that they only wanted to ease up on delays and not keep people waiting.

      This situation only had two solutions:
      #1. DOD keeps the complementary sanding but raises prices on top of the long wait in order to offset the costs of labor needed to sand all those freakin' dolls.

      #2. DOD loses the complementary sanding, cutting the wait times in half AND they don't need to raise their prices either!

      With option #2, everybody wins except the truly picky and those of us who truly don't quite understand the BJD hobby mentality, which is essentially to customize (as stated several times already).

      And one last thing, not meant to be combative at all, I'm just really curious.

      If those people who feel along the lines of "OMG this doll cost me $500+, $600+, $1000+ and I just CAN'T imagine sanding it myself!" well, how do you feel about everything else you're gonna do with it...? Or are you not, you know, gonna do anything with it?

      Like change its clothes, wigs, eyes? Pose it and take some photos? Maybe create a little home/diorama for it? Take it to meet ups, take it to wherever.

      I guess if it's just going to be a display piece then that's that, but if you're planning on getting the full effect as it were, of a BJD, then you need to realize that being so up in arms over the cost of the doll will potentially limit what you're willing to experience with it and why are you buying one in the first place?

      So maybe the important question to ask isn't "Why has DOD forsaken me?" but "What do I really plan to do with my doll and what type of enjoyment do I expect to get from my doll?"

      Then, when you order one, you can be sure to pay extra for the sanding since everyone else charged for that anyway...

    12. I'm sorry guys, I'm closing this one again. :( I think the debate was great, but we've pretty much exhausted the different viewpoints and people are getting kinda nasty again. (For anyone looking at this later and wondering why it was closed, the offending posts were removed.)

      Congratulations to those receiving their dolls sanded, and good luck to those receiving them unsanded! If you have any questions about seam removal, please feel free to post your questions in the Painting and Customizing subforum.
