Does a new faceup make you feel different?

Sep 23, 2007

    1. Whenever I redo my boys faceups its only to touch up stuff which I know I can now do better or to try out a new idea, their faces never change too much though.

For instance, when I redid Kaito's faceup a while ago he got neater, different styled bottom lashes and neater eyebrows (but they were still the same shape as the old ones). His eye makeup and lips stayed the same but look better now (in my opinion), he got the same blushing, in the same colour as before and longer, more feathery top eyelashes. He also got a different set of eyes, his proper grey ones (and I fell in love with him all over again). But I do have a tendency to tweak things until he feels 'right' again...if that makes sense?

I recently redid Shreddie's faceup (out of necessity not choice, he chipped the paint on his lower lip). That gave me a chance to redo the parts I wasn't 100% happy with. But overall he kept the same kind of look. Although I took this as a chance to experiment and instead of lining his eyes with burnt sienna as I did the first time, this time I lined them in a really dark purple (which really draws you in to his purple eyes).

Seren (my Lu-Wen) is currently just a floating head, he is normal skin which is darker than the skin tone I am used to, so atm I am experimenting with him, doing his blushing in a different way to the way I have done it on Kaito and Shreds, using different colours and basically just trying to get his character right. Although I have found that no matter how perfect their faceup is, for me, if they don't have the right eyes then I just don't feel 100% happy with them.

    2. I have the same worry as you!

I'm not a DIY person so i sent my second boy Taku for a face-repaint after he arrived as a head. When he came back with the new face-up, i felt something was missing but couldn't quite figure out what it was. I changed his eyes and wigs many many times and only recently he is beginning to settle into his 'default' look.

Still, his face-up is not perfect. I've been considering to send him to another face-up artist but decided not to (for the moment) because:

      1) I don't want him to come back as a different boy.
      2) I will miss him terribly if i were to send him away!

      So that's my dilemma *_*

    3. Yes! New face-ups really help <3... I always end up happier than I was.

      However - i once let a famous face-up artist paint my dolls and that made them scary for me to play with. It took the spontaneity away since I got scared of damaging them. So I guess it only counts when I myself was the one to do my face-ups. ^^;;

    4. I feel the same. I wiped my one doll's face up and redid it, I kept most things the same but made her lips lighter and added more shading around her eyes. I completely fell in love with her character again even though I hadn't changed much!

    5. Each time I've had a dolls' faceup redone, I liked it even more than the previous one. It's just building up the courage to make the change that's difficult for me, as I become attached to that faceup and expression. But each time I've had a faceup redone they've felt more like "themselves" :)

    6. Since my girls aren't back form the spa (first trip), I am super excited to see them! :D I've never had a doll with a faceup before so I am anxious to see them and how much they've changed :)

    7. I do my own faceups, and with so many blank dolls here, "new" faceups aren't always on the short list of things to do... but I was able to "refresh" one of my older girls recently, and it made a huge difference both in how she looks, and my own satisfaction with her. Now, I never disliked her, as such, and she wasn't at any risk of being sold or anything, but she had gone from "proud of this" to "meh" to "she looks so old and discolored :<" before I cleaned her up. Now that she's been cleaned, blushed, and re-faceupped, I feel like she's a new doll, and I'm excited again to take photos and show her off! So yes, a new faceup did make me feel different toward her.

    8. Every time I paint one of my doll's faces I improve a little, each time they become more truly themselves, to match more closely the ideal image I carry in my head of who they are.

    9. yes lol
i m buying a bunch of Lati yellow sophies...which i didnt want to but somehow ended up getting...
