Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Does any doll you buy have to fit a story?

Sep 12, 2010

    1. That kinda sums up my whole reason for being in this hobby. XD

    2. I've always bought dolls based on if their sculpt appeals to me. I didn't learn that people buy dolls that represent their original character until after I bought my first doll. I've tried to make up a story for my dolls, but I still don't have anything concrete. I could easily make the dolls I currently own into characters from stories I have. Though, part of me wants to have a story that all my dolls are characters from, which is hard since most of my dolls are MSD sized. I'd need to come up with a story that involves a bunch of grade or middle schoolers.

However, recently I saw a doll that made me think he would be perfect BJD version of a character in one of my stories. When I get him eventually, I'll probably just have him cosplay as my character and come up with a different personality for him to have.

    3. I have predesigned characters that the dolls need to fit. I am drawn to A LOT of dolls and I have varied taste so it's really for the best that I limited myself to just my characters in my stories and maybe one or two who I just like. I really don't have the budget to buy just any doll that I like xD

    4. I usually pick a doll because I personally like its appearance, rather than if it fits one of my pre-existing characters. I don't feel like that would be very enjoyable for me, especially since I'd be missing out on a lot of nice dolls.

    5. I've personally found that I don't bond as easily with dolls that don't fit characters I have in mind, so I do prefer that they fit a story.

    6. None of my dolls have stories at the moment, apart from Ava, who I am still waiting on. I have never thought about a story because I am not very creative haha.

    7. My first doll that I bought was kind of an impulse buy, and right after I ordered him I started developing a character for him. But when he came in, the doll flat out refused the persona I'd been creating for him and only kept his name. Thanks to this though, I created a whole new universe filled with characters that want to be turned into dolls. I wouldn't buy a doll unless it fits the character I have in mind now because the characters have just become so important to me.

    8. If I like a doll, then I will most likely buy it, even if it doesn't have a certain role in my story. Though, the majority of them are already established characters in my story, I have one that I plan on purchasing that won't be included in my story because I honestly can't think up a character for him.

    9. I had this problem with my Sky, who I'm trying to sell now... He was an impulse buy from MoC. I was like nah, it's fine, he can shell this character. I do still love his sculpt, but it just didn't work, especially when next doll came in, whose sculpt I picked out especially for his character and face up was custom done to match the character. I just loved Parker so much more because he was exactly who he was supposed to be, while the other one wasn't.

So definitely I have been more careful picking out dolls for my characters.

    10. That was my original intention, yes. But I just bought I doll that didn't have a pre-existing character and was a supernatural creature because I realized that then I won't be able to really change a doll's appearance too much if they are pre-existing character. I'll have to see how I like it. I might just end up selling her again, but I hope not!

    11. No, I don't have stories or characters. I buy the sculpts that I like, whether I bond with them when they arrive is a whole different matter....

    12. Yes, all. I never buy a sculpt just because I find it pretty. All my doll characters fit characters of my books or other characters who were designed previously.

    13. That's pretty much how it goes with me as well ^^ My dolls "main story" is the type that allows pretty much all kinds of creatures and side-stories anyway :chocoheart

    14. I do prefer that they fit a story i have in mind.. i really like writing and i created tons of original fan fictions, with various pg! XD I would like to buy my first doll basing my choise on one character i invented! *^*

    15. I pick dolls I think because I think they're pretty, cute, or I just like how they look. I don't give them a specific character and I don't choose them to fit a story. Since don't have a specific character, a doll might have different styles (hair/eyes/clothing style) for the same doll, because they don't have a set character or story to them so I don't feel like they need to stick to a certain style or personality type. Sometimes I might do a photoshoot which tells a story, but the story is usually self-contained in the shoot or in the writing I am doing then, rather than being connected to the character of the doll.

    16. I buy dolls that I think look good but also I can see them easily fitting into my story.
Since one of my dolls I am slowly not feeling anything towards is because I cannot find any way for it to fit into my story.

    17. Yea, currently any doll I buy fits into a pre-existing storyline since it's the reason
I got into this hobby, to shell my characters. It also helps me not to spend all my money
Cuz then I know my bounderies, cuz really it would be bad for me if I attempted to buy half
The dolls from every company just cuz I liked the sculpt. :sweat

    18. I never write stories for the dolls in advance...

    19. I really only picked two doll sculpts that are for a specific story. But I'm saving up for them. After that everything is pretty much in them air for me.

    20. Nope.....I buy dolls coz they are pretty & I have fallen in love with them :fangirl: I won't be writing stories but will share pics ;) I do enjoy reading everyone's stories though :)
