1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Does this hobby *really* teach us patience?

Sep 24, 2010

    1. Patience? Whats that? *stalking recently shipped packages
      8D;

Yeah no, haha not really. ^^; I think rather, dolls teach appreciation for time consuming art! XD!

    2. I don't think it teaches me patience. I'm not so 'OMG DOLL' that I can't cope with my everday life if I have one on the way. I think the only time I was ever SUPER excited was for my first doll - and that's because he was my little dark passenger. He was another half of me.... as dumb as it sounds.

Now I'm just like "oh I need this doll, sweet, buy!" and then I get it in the mail later.

    3. It's helped teach me patience, reinforced patience, and definitely showed me the virtues of patience. If I didn't wait to get my first dolls, I might have chosen wrong ones. My wishlist is drastically different from when it was last week, let alone a year ago.

Actually, I'm still waiting. xD Being patience with this hobby allows you to save money and see if what you really want stays with you, instead of only sticking around for a few days.

    4. No this hobby doesnt teach us patience, however it may seem like it. I think that only we can teach ourselves patience. Some of us can save up for a doll and wait or try to get a limited in a second hand market. However some people show they have no patience and just buy the dolls because they feel they will be getting the better deal* at the time. Although to me its a better deal in general to buy a doll when you have the money handy even if it is a bit more in price.

    5. I have definitely acquired more patience! I have waited almost three months for my custom doll to arrive to the US from Spain! And I hear Lati makes buyers wait months before their dolls arrive! Patience, yeah I think we get better at it when waiting for these dolls! ;)

    6. o_O I think it depends on the person.

    7. Yes, yes it has. I have never spent like 5 months saving for anything before. Then waiting for a month and a half after spending the money to get something. Never mind face-ups, wigs, clothes etc..

    8. My patience is pretty low when it comes to saving up the money for each and every of the dolls that I am dreaming about owning. But once the special doll is ordered I have all the patience in the world. Then I just wait the time it takes for it to ship even if it takes 3 months or more without thinking to much about it.

    9. I'm a very impatient person, so the long waiting is really a torture for me, but I also have to say since I'm waiting now nearly 2 months(which is the longest period I waited for something ever), a wait of 3 weeks would be nothing for me now, which wasn't like that before.

    10. Its SOMETIMES a torture to have to wait. And my patience is espcially low with money matters, but I do feel that having Yun has taught me alot of patience, which I find very valuable.

    11. I consider myself a relatively impatient person. I like instant gratification, and waiting typically drives me up the wall.

I'm also one of those people that counts every day passing after ordering a doll - I had a wait chart for every one of my dolls previously, and I have one now haha. However, I feel like with each doll, the anxiety has worn off some. With my first, I was going nuts and the time couldn't go fast enough. Waiting now, however, even with counting down day by day I really don't find myself freaking out at all.

So, has the hobby taught me patience? I dunno. If anything I think it has taught me how to distract myself every day with forum browsing instead haha.

    12. NO, NO IT DOES NOT. *Froths at the mouth, suffering from a three month-long wait for her new doll.*

    13. good things come to those who wait :)
when you recieve your doll after months of waiting, its an amazing feeling :)
but no, this hobby has not made me more patient, but i actually like the excitement you get when you wait for your doll to arrive!

    14. I don't think it teaches patience, no. I often wish the companies would keep dolls in stock to lessen the wait! I told myself I'd never buy another doll I'd have to wait for, and then I went and bought another. Today. Woe is me! lol!

    15. I think it teaches patience definitely...I caught myself today. I purchased (well placed the order for) my slightly customized wedding gown and I'm expecting it to arrive in 6 months or so. My mother was freaking out but I was all, relax mom. It's only six months.....wait, what? Where did this kind of patience come from? Then I realized I waited on a doll for almost four, so six doesn't really seem that long haha. She was panicking over what could go wrong, and I'm sitting there patiently thinking, "nothing we can't fix with a little patience". So yes, it does teach patience. And it also teaches us to watch for the mail person in a window like a dog. :P

    16. lol not for me! The wait for some dolls has gotten easier, and I can plan ahead a little better thinking "ill get some dolls this year, some for christmas, and some next year" but I will still jump at the opportunity to order and get instant gratification (helooo in stock pukifee!) I dont really save money, usually when I had a paycheck I would just buy when I had money, or now that I dont I buy in waves thinking "this could be the last time i see money in months, if I dont buy the dollie Ill spend this on stupid things and wait longer!!" so no, not any more patient than day one. But thats okay because the hobby has soo many other good aspects! ^^

    17. I don't think this hobby teaches us patience and I don't think it has to do this. Something teaches us patience when the result depends on this - something like bonsai art for example=) In our hobby there is no connection between our patience and the result - the doll will come earlier or later. So patience and impatience and their progress is result of personal characteristics, not hobby.

    18. nah. it gets what you make it. For me theys like therapy,,

    19. Oh, I'm very impatient and want things to go quickly, so I get my dolls from a mix of company and market place... so there are some coming sooner and they calm my wait for the ones that take ages to arrive... ^_^
And it's been only four months I'm in this hobby... (gahhh, I'm lost to resin)

    20. I'm a pretty impatient person, but not obnoxiously.
I think if anything so far it's just taught me optimism. I always have something to look forward to knowing that my doll is being made and should come within the next month. :D
