It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Does your grail doll change, or can you have more than one?

Mar 11, 2013

    1. I always figured the "grail" part meant "unlikely to obtain", as well as being a very big deal for you. I have mine, though it's not an on-topic doll, and I'm still so surprised that happened. Wasn't even expensive as dolls go, but it was so rare I was quite seriously certain I would never find it, and while there are a lot of difficult or impossible to get dolls I'd love to have, there hasn't been anything else I'd feel like calling a "grail" since.

    2. When I first got into BJD's the grail doll for me was an Iple Basic Luo and in some ways he still is the grail doll. He's killer expensive, way, way out of my budget range, so far I can't even legitimately rationalize spending $900 plus on him. But if I ever won a lotto I'd happily go there and I'd buy him an Iple GF to go with. I'm realistic though and I have a real grail doll that I do want to buy and will someday, and that would be a Resinsoul Dai. She will likely be the final doll in my BJD collection and I wanted the last doll to be one I really, really want.

    3. Is it possible to obtain your grail doll, then later find another one?
For me, definitely. Dolls stop being grails as soon as I own them (because, for me, a grail is inherently 'a thing you are seeking', so anything you possess cannot be a grail. Once I get my current grail, it ceases being my grail, and my next most wanted doll becomes my grail.

Here's another curiosity...how many people factor things like resin color (or even a default face up) into their grail doll?
I definitely factor colour in sometimes, but the majority of the time I'll take my grail sculpt in whatever form I can get it. Default face-up I'm more strict about - all my dolls have their default face-ups. For one of my grails (Soom Amber), I bought her head blank and then paid to send it to the company to have the face-up added, because there was no point owning the sculpt without the face-up.

    4. My grail usually changes when I was able to get my current grail. To me a grail is something that is not in my possession that's why it changes as soon as I could grab my grail :)

    5. I have more then one Grail doll. Im slowly working my way down them :D

    6. grails for me are usually a doll that i have a wild desire for. It used to be a littlefee bisou, which i bought already, and now it's a minifee celine.... i'm a sucker for fairyland.
But when i shop around for dolls, I just float around the marketplace and look at doll sculpts. My DOC Petsha, SSDF Flood, and PKF Ante were not sculpts that i planned for. Somehow I just wound up with them! So when I laser target my interest in one specific sculpt, it becomes a grail!

    7. My grail doll has changed the more knowledge I get in this hobbie. My grail doll started off as an SD boy, but now I have been in the hobbie a while, I decided that SD isn't for me and now my grail is just a specific sculpt, not the size. (Fairyland Ante - I love her in pukipuki, pukifee, littlefee and minifee)

    8. I kind of have two. They are both my grail dolls, but one is an anthro doll and the other is a human doll. The Sophie Bastet grey skin Egyptian doll human that came out this summer is my human grail doll. I only want her in grey skin and I really want her outfit too. If it was the complete set I'd be crazy I'm sure with how much I'd spend. I've seen the tan version recently (no outfit) and I'm not really interested.

    9. Well, i've been wanting a loongsoul body for AGES with an asleep eidolon dolly sculpt head, and i finally ordered her a few weeks ago! but i'm definitely not done! i actually have plans to take place in doll leaves most recent event and get one of there sd girls and an MSD boy. it's a great deal really! and it's sort of funny because i haven't even fully paid off my girl yet >.<! But yes, back on topic, she was my so called 'grail' or 'dream' doll, but that doesn't necessarily mean i won't get more, there are still quit a bit more that i want :)

    10. I'm considering my "grail" dolls to be dolls that are perfect for a character, but I have a hard time getting my hands on.
At the moment I have two grail dolls.

The first one is a SOOM Chalco in brown tan.
I want it sooo badly and the character I want it for is a very small character currently, so I don't feel like paying the big price for him. And he tends to be sold as a fullset with fantasy parts, which I wouldn't have a use for, making it even more difficult.

The other is a Volks SDGr Creamy Mami.
I found her to be perfect for Charlotte, but Charlotte is already shelled as a Merry Doll Round Merry and she has the "grail" face-up by Cats10, so I don't really want to reshell her.

    11. Well I do factor accessories into considering, but only sometimes. Like for my grail soom nephelin, even soom has organized a free choice for her lately, without her accessory (clothes etc) I still can't feel satisfied. Nearly stoped clueless searching for her accessory now.

    12. Oh, this rings so true to me. I think it's a bit different for me, though, depending on one's definition of "readily available." Any limited edition doll, it's with the knowledge that there's not much time, and I want that. So, even if they're available and I have the funds, it increases the "grail"-ness. But the doll I want the most is just that, sold out, was limited, and so hard to find it's nearly impossible.
