Does your price limit keep going higher/lower with each doll?

Jan 8, 2011

    1. My first few bjds have all been around the $250.00 range so far... that's give or take.... now that I'm looking to get my bigger more harder to do characters alot of the prices have gone up and seem to be flat lining at around $700.00 to $900.00 range. Which sucks for me because those are the ones I want and I am poor as heck bleh! The current one I will buy that is more for me rather than my story is a doll hybrid I want to make that will probably be around $400.00 so... either way... it keeps getting closer and closer to $1000.00 with each doll purchase gah!

    2. Mine has been pretty stationary for a while. It started around the $500 mark and went up to eventually hit $1200 with layaway a few years ago. I used to think my price range would keep going up when it came to harder to find sculpts, but with the variety of companies there are now vs when I started my price range just kinda stopped fluctuating and kinda got hammered into a place.

    3. Mine fluctuates a lot... But I started low and in a sense moved higher... it's never stable, basically because I don't purchase dolls of a single size either, maybe...

    4. I don't know that I ever had a price limit or if I do, it's always been quite high. If I really love a doll, I'll save up for years if I have to to get it. That being said, the most I've ever bought a doll for was $1200 which isn't nearly as high as some dolls.

    5. Honestly i dont have a price limit for any doll. If I like how the doll looks I will get it .

    6. I did the normal thing in going "OMG who would pay x amount for a doll" and then, six months later, did exactly that. As I have learned more and more about the hobby and what things are actually worth, why they are worth that amount, and what I like... I have learned that my price limit keeps going up, slowly but surely, but it's flatlined at about $2000 for any one doll. Even then, I find that expensive. However, if there is a doll that I find that I can justify the price of over $2k for, I'm sure that my limit will go up again.

As a general though, for what I now know, and have observed, about the hobby, my limit is roughly $2k for any one doll. And that's not saying I'd spend that much on a lot of dolls either xD

    7. I've gone down in price with each doll, but these are my first ones and the 2nd and 3rd were secondhand. I always understood
paying a lot for a doll even before I got my first one, but I don't feel like I could pay more than $600 for a doll right now. It's like I don't feel like I have the right to pay that much right now because I haven't been doing this for very long.

    8. Mine are usually around 600 dollars. I have spent more but I seem to sell those on. Go figure.

    9. My first, and only, doll is a Bobobie Apollo. I love him to pieces, but he's a pretty cheap little boy as far as dollar costs are concerned. That being said, he was a MAJOR purchase for my husband and I. We spent under $300 on buying him, which included his hair, eyes, an outfit with shoes, and the drive down to Centennial to pick him up. In all honestly, he really wasn't something that we could afford at the time.

Since Liam's purchase, we've gotten into a slightly better financial situation. So, as a result, the nebulous idea of what makes a doll's price reasonable has shifted upward. I've found myself looking at dolls that are more than twice Liam's price and thinking "Well, if she's the only thing I get for myself this year...". Of course, I still would probably stick to a lower-priced doll for my next purchase, simply because the money isn't really available. Going forward, though, especially as my husband and I settle into our careers, I think my price limit will go up.

That being said, I think that I'll always look for the best price on the doll that I want. I'm a bargain-hunter at heart (Thanks, Grandma!) and I love the thrill of the deal. So, even when I'm doing pretty well financially, sales and second-hands will be my friends.

    10. My limits gone crazy long time ago though...

    11. I try to find the best price I can if it's second hand, or even if it's new and has long gone past it's initial release price. But if I really want something than I budget like most of us would for anything else. I would forgo other things I buy for the one doll I really want.

This happened recently where I found a new, authentic Dollfie Dream Yoko. It was expensive but the only lower price I saw before (new) was $200 cheaper. The price difference was not that much so I went ahead and got her because she was one of my Wish List dolls. After-entry periods pricing for Dollfies' is almost always well above the initial price, but that's just the way it is.

So, in other words I go back and forth. After my Yoko purchase I'm sure I'll be going back down :D

    12. My very low limit changed when I decided I simply HAD to have a doll of my oldest and beloved character. The only doll that fit was a doll I swore I'd never pay for because OMG they were too expensive! After him, my limit just kinda packed up and flew to the moon and as far as I know it's still there pretty much. lol

No but seriously there are still dolls that I simply would not pay for really though, anything above $1000 just no. So I guess that's my limit, having said that however, if I was to find a doll I felt I couldn't live without and somehow managed to afford it, then I might change it. Who knows. XD

    13. Sort of higher at the moment but it's not for any particular reason other than doll availability. But all of the guys I like are all mid/low range. For a hot second I considered adding myself to the lottery for the new LE Volks SD17 Claude boy - but I decided that I really don't want the full-set - which of course would be half the reason to get him in the first place. But ultimately for me the cost really doesn't matter, it's more about if I like the doll. And while I may be willing to cross the $1k threshold, I still actively look at dolls which are less than $500.00.

    14. My price limit seems to increase as I get more into the hobby, yes. When I got my first girl I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg, and found a lovely second-hand RS mini to take home. My second was a tiny, but a bit more expensive. Well, she was a gift but still. Now I'm in the process of purchasing a Soom yo-sd that will be a little more expensive still. I try and set the limit at $300-ish as I mostly like tinies, but I know I will shell out a lot more if I find my most wanted boy.

    15. Cesavier was just under £300 as a fullset Dollzone Hid. That was when I was 14. I bought him out of money that I saved up - at that age I never spent the money I got at Christmas and birthdays, so I had a lot of it. Seraphine was cheaper as a basic doll but not by an awful amount - I wanted her as a girl so I didn't bother with the full set. I already knew that I wanted her sculpt so price wasn't much of a factor in choosing her. My Resinsoul Long didn't cost much initially - less than my first two dolls when I got them! - but after getting him jointed hands, a faceup, things to add to that face up, new elastic, mod materials and respiration PPE, eyes, a wig and clothes which cost over half what he did I can safely say he's not been inexpensive (is there such a thing in this hobby?). I have of course blamed this spending on emotional trauma.

    16. well, I think i'm capping my max out at around $650, and that's still a LOT for me! I'll only buy a few doll worth that much @@; I think i'll stick to dolls around half that....$325 or so

    17. I recently bought another doll the same sculpt as my first doll so I guess my spending has pretty much stayed the same. I bought some smaller dolls in between which were obviously cheaper but there haven't been any patterns in my doll prices increasing/decreasing. I just buy the dolls I like at the time, regardless of the cost.

    18. It goes down for now..My fist girl is about 200 dollar, and the new boy is like 100 dollar.
I think that really depends on the size, my girl is 1/4 and the boy is 1/8, so..

    19. At first I thought any doll over $300 was too much for me to spend. It did not take long for me to start thinking $600 was a great deal! Then a $900 full set was a steal! I don't really have a set limit; I just buy what I like if I can afford it. Once I tried to break it down into dollars per centimeter. For example, at $15 per cm, a 26cm Yo sized doll would cost $390 and I would not pay a penny over that figure. Then I saw Volks Yo Megu and that went flying out the window.
