Doll bedrooms

Nov 7, 2013

    1. My ex-flatmate is building a room for her latest doll, and I plan on building one when Ouranea comes home. Ikea is selling somewhat MSD-sized beds at the moment and I have a pile of really nice, really large carpet squares to work with after my old office's recent refurbishment, so it was bound to happen.

...of course, now I have to convince my partner to move some of his stuff so I can make room for it. Or get a new place with another smaller bedroom. Ehehehe.

    2. Omg those rooms! They're all amazing!

Sooooo I took a trip to Ikea because I looove that place! And instead of spending $54 on a cabinet that may or may not have fallen off my wall, I bought a table for $20! I'm a really really smart shopper lolol. But now I dont have walls for her area. D: What do I do to make walls? Also I need a couch and a dresser and hoping for a mirror but (surprise) Ikea has some good mirrors on the cheap, like $10 cheap.

    3. I haven't, not yet.
I've thought about it, I've heard a lot .. and I mean a lot of people buy from them.

    4. Well, you can build a three walled box that fits on top of your table and print off wallpapers from your computer or buy some from a dollhouse shop. This way you can add realistic windows and lighting :) Craft stores often have cheap mirrors and picture frame crafts. Office depot sells locker chandeliers which work in roomboxes, sometimes you can find other nifty props when they put out christmas decorations.

(Bonney Lake goodwill has a fabulous sleigh i donated cause none of my crew fit, lol, its 1/6 scale, yea, mostly im giggling that its still in town)

    5. @Whimsu Omgosh Ikea is a fantastic wonderland of fantastic wonderful things! I very much recommend it!

I wonder where a close doll shop near me is :O But I'm not understanding how to do a 3 walled um....walls. Lol Do I just use like a regular cardboard box or like like the thick white cardboards that kids use for projects? Like posterboards, then cover it with wallpaper I printed?

    6. Or plywood (wood is sturdier)

    7. What about scrapbooking paper if you found the right one!? I'm really only worried about the background so I'll buy a few poster boards, and somehow attach scrapbooking paper (assuming I find a really pretty one) and wa-lah! A beautiful room for my beautiful darling!!

    8. i have two room one fore my minifee Rheia boy and one fore my volks Tsubaki. i have started one fore my soom Nors and I'm thinking of making one fore my DD to.

    9. I would go to your nearest hardware store and pick up ply wood. You need four pieces, one for the floor and the other three for the walls. IF you want one for the cieling, that's up to you, but I wouldn't attach the ceiling permanantly, so you have better range of moving things in and out of the space.

    10. I actually Had an idea because I bought a large table and that already makes my room look boxy lol so I don't actually want to box her in. So I'm going to get a couple poster boards, and attach some really nice scrap booking paper to it for wallpaper. I'll attach all that to my wall that the table sits on! I'll post a picture tonight once I work on it and what not ^.^

    11. I have a couple pictures of her room but it's not 100% done if anyone wants to see ^.^

    12. I don't have room for a full bedroom diorama yet. Eventually (when I move from my apartment into a proper house), I want to have a couple of interchangeable sets for my SuperGems (probably just backdrops - full room boxes would be huge at that scale!), and a full bedroom for my Rosette dolls. I've already planned their bedroom - they're going to have loft bunk beds with desks underneath and built-in bookshelves. They live at a boarding school, but a very wealthy one, so the room will be practical but also quite luxurious. Lots of dark stained woods, plush fabrics and leather book covers :aheartbea

    13. Luckly, my doll is decently sized (about 17-18 inches) lololol so I bought a table from Ikea and that ended up working better then expected! And it fits in my actual bedroom (I have 2 rooms) I was very adamant on her being in the same room as me.

    14. I love the idea, but I haven't been able to successfully create a diorama/portable/interchangeable/Set or any kind of room yet.
I'm trying to convert a side table/short bookshelf into a mini room... they can lay in it long ways or stand in it tall ways; but it's small and odd to handle.
It may work better just for photo-shoots.

My 1/4 AOD BJD's are smaller & thinner than an 18 inch doll, and I've taken ideas from those kinds of dolls to use for my BJD's.
I've set up an outdoor "set" with two old fence pieces and did a small western themed thing once.
I used a couch as a backdrop one time too.
I do have furniture I've found/made/bought/repainted etc. and want to eventually have multiple rooms, set, or a BJD house someday.
My husband isn't as thrilled as I am at the thought of someday having a "Doll Room"; a room full of rooms for my BJD's, their things, and sewing stuff.

I would love to have rooms for my dolls, and maybe even a house for them, but right now I don't.

    15. I want to try and figure out space for my dolls to reside, especially a space where I can make rooms for them. I think I will be starting with my yoSD's though, both who very much need their own spaces.

Anyone know what size the Ikea doll bed fits best? It's clearly too big for a yoSD (I may make their beds on my own) but I am curious before going out of my way to grab one for my bigger dolls.

    16. lol, oddly enough, my boyfriend would LOVE that, so he doesnt have them staring at him while he sleeps XD well that and he has his own doll and is contemplating a second tho he wants to outfit poor Albert first =p (we're trying to find an affordable 3 bedroom apartment so the dolls CAN have a space to dwell, along with game systems and my sewing machine, but its better than nothing)

@Skodeberg: Ikea beds are best for MSD size if memory serves, just like most 18 inch doll furniture, tho it seems a tad on the bulky side. Its too small for my SDs and agreed with it being too big for yoSD, i'd imagine its about the same as the bed my grandpa made my AG dolls when i was 10 (that now sits in my daughters room)

    17. I'm moving into my basement so I can turn my current room into a doll\sewing\etc room! I'm planning on making roomboxes for most of my dolls, and yes, most of those dolls are SD or larger. It's gonna be interesting, but I've always wanted a GIANT dollhouse-like setup for my dolls, so they're not literally living in my closet, y'know? The little ones will get rooms too (One of them already has one I made out of cardboard and duct tape) but that will be a little easier because of the scale.

    18. Dang, I was hoping for an SD scale bed so my yoSD boy could steal his dad's bed until he arrives (I don't know anyone who didn't occasionally sleep in their parents bed while they were young). Guess I will have to make one myself!

      Thanks for the information. (:

    19. I am a lucky person who has a whole room for dolls. Within that my BJD's have 2 1/2 short walls for their bedrooms and living room. I attached shelves to the walls, and arranged their furniture on it. For the SD's there are 5 bedrooms, then 2 for the MSD's and one more for the tiny. Not a lot of room for each, but the beds are big enough
      for a doll or two.
I have been collecting doll furniture for 20 years, long before my first BJD.

By the by... My Twinn makes and sells furniture scaled for SD's.

    20. As long as said SDs arent 70cm XD that's where i run into issues lol
