Doll Chateau-Too skinny?

Dec 21, 2014

    1. I wouldn't look at them as "anorexic" just like a lot of others said, they look stylized and a lot more artistic. The contrast with your other doll would probably make it stand out a lot more though! I personally love the slender bodies from DC, there's something magical about them aaah :)

    2. I think they're very elegant and I love how stylized they are. Of course, I may be a bit biased, as my first exposure to a BJD was to my boyfriend's DC Queena, which I'm quite fond of :)

    3. I like the exaggerated proportions, they have this gothic/strange sort of look to them that I just love. I would like to own one someday, but I'm in no hurry to get one.

If your parents are very judgmental or maybe your family has experienced some sort of eating disorder that they might link the super skinny body to then it might be a good thing to sit down and talk with them maybe? But then, if it's your money you should be able to use it for whatever you want, wither the doll is super skinny or not. If you love the model then I say go for it, don't let others around you stop you from enjoying yourself and the hobby you love.

    4. Their style is so unique, it's one of the few companies I can recognize immediately ehehe
I wouldn't say they're too skinny, they have a surreal lanky look to them~

    5. I absolutely adore doll chateau. It does make it hard to find clothes, but completely worth it. I love how abstract they are, and their long legs are to die for.
Don't concern yourself with other people's opinions when you are buying a doll for yourself. It makes things way too complicated, and the doll is meant for you. If it would make you happy, then go about trying to own one.

    6. Tbh, I think that person was lying or didn't know what they were talking about. At one point there was a person in the community who had a DC collin as well as a lot of anger issues. They used to throw their collin around and slammed him into walls a few times in a temper tantrum and that collin never broke or chipped! Dc resin is REALLY solid despite how skinny they are!

As for the op's questions: if someone finds dcs triggering, that's fair enough, but I think dcs just look very stylized. I don't think the look bad next to other company dolls either! I just got a hybrid on a dc body and I think his long, noodly body looks fab next to my broad iplehouse dolls. :)

The thing I would be concerned about is finding clothes that fit. Its gonna be a challenge with my dc boy!!

    7. Haha, thank you everyone! I now own a K-01 body and it's the most beautiful thing in the world to me. Everything about it is perfect and the unique style is my favorite. I regret feeling so worried and I hope I didn't offend anyone anywhere because it was not my intention. The K-12 body is beautiful as well although I don't personally own it. DC has turned out to be a favorite company of mine and I can appreciate the style. :)

Edit: I would never judge anyone by calling them anorexic because of how their body looked. I think I worded that weirdly and I would never want to offend anyone because of that!

    8. Glad you got the body you wanted! :)

    9. I've just ordered a doll chateau Lance and I'm soooo excited to get him - I love how skinny and out of proportion they look! I'm not buying him for a human character though - instead he's been used for a demon-ish character! :)

    10. Personally I don't partially like how skinny and slim they are/look but i defiantly think they look really unique and interesting! I think exaggerated proportions of the doll have a lot of potential for customisation and etc

    11. I was looking into them but their skinny bodies did get to me! I felt like it would be out of place in my new collection.

    12. I find DC bodies about as triggering as Jack Skellington

Really though, I think what other people have said about the dolls being more gothy/artistic is pretty spot-on. It's not that the dolls are just thin; they also have joints in weird places like the neck, and super-long neanderthal arms x'D. If someone was going for thinspiration, they'd get a skinny doll of any other brand. If someone was going for creepspiration, they'd get a DC conjoined twin, etc.etc.

Overall, I don't find a highly stylized creeptastic doll to be the problem. I find proportionate dolls with huge thigh-gaps and other weird details thinspiration-obsessed youths look at more concerning. Barbies and other dolls like that are one things; I think they are more often seen as parody than real. But so many BJDs are made to look REAL, as if they're about to take a breath. Based on what little stuff I've read on confession blogs, thin 'realistic' BJDs seem to be wreaking more havoc on people's body image than the artistic 'horror' that are DC bodies!

    13. 100 percent agree with this SO SO MUCH. I own a dc matthew and I love him to bits. His body is just so beautiful and elegant....gah! I am in love <3 yes, he reminded me of tim burton's horror gothic artistic style! He is not at all too skinny. But I do love dressing him in baggy clothes <3 too cute!

    14. I was just thinking my Ada wouldn't be out of place in one of Tim Burton's movies :). Not that I ever thought they were ugly, but DC is really growing on me. They're something between gothic and Art Nouveau (which I probably spelled wrong, but spellcheck is giving me "Norway...") And some of them are pretty pear-shaped, too, even with the more "normal" proportions.

    15. I love Doll Chateau's skinny bodies! I own two other bjd's not made by DC and they look like much more than my DC girl. I don't mind that because my DC girl is so photogenic i love to take pictures of her *.* but she always looks much more skinny when sitting beside the other two girls :)

    16. it's simply a style... or you like it or you don't ! I love the DC skinny body... I don't think that if I love it, I've problems with my body ;)

    17. I do find them too skinny. It might be artistic, but it's certainly not my cup of tea. A great majority of these dolls are already extremely slim as it is and often idolized as having "perfect" bodies which in itself I don't wholly agree with. While DC might not be claiming to be an accurate representation of the human body, I still find their slimness and overall aesthetics to be negatively jarring for me. Certainly none for my personal collection.

    18. It's just the stylisation of the company, but I do adore how skinny and 'gangly' they are - if you want a doll, it's nobody else's business which style you want or which company you buy from.

    19. Its just an opinion I think. As much as I love seeing larger dolls, I also enjoy seeing skinnier ones. Humans have all sorts of shapes, and I know a lot of people who are sort of basically naturally that skinny.

    20. DC dolls got me really hooked... Absolutely love them!
