Doll Couples and their heights, When is it not creepy?

Nov 16, 2015

    1. It would be very off putting to see a mini-sized with a 60cm sized as a romantic couple.
It looks pedophilia even if that's not the intention.

    2. My friend has a mature mini/SD pairing, and they don't look creepy to me. The girl looks like a twentysomething and so does the guy, there's just a height difference going on. It reminds me of one of my friends in secondary school, she was 4'11 and the boy she was dating was about 6'6, and their height/size difference looked similar (as for the earlier remark about hands/feet -- she did actually have small hands and feet as well, so that would make sense too).

    3. Can anyone send pictures of a MSD and SD couple? Preferably the SD a male, please.

    4. Alright, so the general consensus is, It is never not creepy. Lol

Again, I never intended/wanted them to have a romantic relationship, but I thought the idea was interesting in terms of the reaction it would receive. I haven't seen any MSD/SD couples that look too different from each other or creepy.

Removing the childish/mature body types from this argument, I wonder if people who see couples with major height differences think thats just as weird as they think doll height differences are.

    5. No, because human adults with major height differences are both clearly adults. Whereas if I see a human child being involved in sexy cuddles with an adult I am calling the police.

Dolls are often made to look very young, so owners with an MSD/SD paring will often try to state openly that both are adults to make it clear when a pair is legitimate, but the fact that an MSD is usually sculpted to look like a young teen or childlike face, even if it has an adult body, makes it look creepy.

    6. I think head and hand size makes a big difference, as well as how stylized the dolls are. I'm very short (4'11" at nearly 30 years old), but my head and hands are the same size as average and tall adult women.

I have an Iple EID man with an Iple nYID girl and they look fine together--at least, no one's ever said anything if they don't! She has a very adult figure, and their heads aren't significantly different in size or style. The characters they're representing are 5'2" and 6'1", so it works.

I think a lot of 60cm girls would look really weird with him, though, because they're stylized to look cuter/younger/more innocent--for example, a volks girl (who could potentially be TALLER than my nYID girl!) just wouldn't look right.

    7. Not a couple... more like siblings... But here's a 60cm CPDelf Harang with a pair of MiniFees.

    8. I could care less what the ages of any character involved in a relationship between two or more dolls are since they're dolls. They're not real people.

Now, that's not to say that two dolls of completely different scales are going to actually look GOOD together in photos. Among humans, even with a huge height difference between two people, they are still going to be the same scale, so their heads are going to still be a similar size and their limbs will have similar proportions. Dolls of different scales are going to look off next to each other just because of that.

    9. Ehh, I've seen a few cases of mistaken age, but I know what you mean. I have seen some childish SD faces, but you never see too many SD childish bodies. Well, Dolce from Spiritfoll looks exactly like a child/baby doll and she stands at 72cm. I'm pretty positive a few other companies have SD sculpts like that.

Very true. I really have no idea how my two dolls will look together. Lol I think they will be fine as far as being scale with another because she is a "child" so it makes sense she will be quite smaller than him. I just feel almost nervous now to take photos of them together.

    10. I have a Dollzone Miao (58 cm) & an Iplehouse Bichun (71 cm) as a couple - and guess what? they look EXACTLY like the anime couple the two like to cosplay (Rukia & Renji from Bleach) - so too bad if anyone thinks it's creepy. I could care.
That said, yes there are dolls out there that are either out of scale (those huge-headed Volks girls come to mind) or way tooo cutesy to be considered adults (when one of those sweet little boy heads is on top of a muscular body it's a huge disconnect - this despite me being used to seeing REAL KPop Idol boys who sometimes have that same look....)

    11. Perhaps you could try to match a petite boy (sd10) with a Zaoll-bodied girl? :) She'd still look younger, smaller and more delicate (if that's what you want to achieve), but it wouldn't creep people out.

And if already - it's not like we can actually forbid you (we, as the community), but in general, 'people will judge'. So, if already, amke sure to get yourself the mini and make her look mature, avoid taking sexualised/half-nude/suggestive photos (so rather romanticise it tastefully and mildly). Also, make sure that the boy looks like a teen and not an adult Terminator-shaped male lol xD So, again, a childlike, big-eyed SD10 at most. (or, a zaolled- ftm bodied boy?). Also, make sure that the girl doesn't look like a big-eyed, sweet fairy cake thing either. She ought to have a darker, mature faceup and accessories that don't make her look like a baby girl.

Then, technically, avoid photographing them standing next to each other, when the difference will be most seen. As a refference - idk if it helps - here's a photo of my msd girl and an sd boy - they're a father and his daugher, however, and my boy's got a wife, so my friends know who's who, etc :)) Sorry for the crappy quality - they're just for the sake of reference ;)

and here's another guy in the family with her http://b2.pinger.pl/e55bd6dda857fbb3fe0ff263d5331819/DSCF8879.jpg. I plan to make them once into a couple, but then I'd shell her into LM Chloe first :)) In my story, atm, tho, she's still a child. As the story evolves, and everyone gets older, I'll gradually reshell them (i've done it so in the past;))

as someone mentioned - any additional info on that 'she a 10000 yeard old fantasy creature trapped in a body of a 3 year old toddler' won't work lol xD If the dolls that you like will never make a plausibly and tastefully looking couple, just make them into siblings;)) They can still hug, etc. but it won't be seen as offensive.

or: do whatever you want, but try not to publish those, or mark them and make unavailable for the underaged, etc.etc. I'm not sure, however, if DoA allows for anything like it, but perhaps some general photo-hosting sites will :)) It is so, because lots of people actually were abused by adults when they were kids, and they still experience the trauma, so it's important to respect them and hteir feelings. At the same time, however, art is art - it can be controversial sometimes :))

      hope it helps.

    12. There's a foot difference in height between my husband and I - no one ever mistakes me for a child or anything, because I'm clearly an adult! That's exactly why it's not just a matter of heights, but build and maturity as well.

The fact is a vast majority of dolls, even in the SD range, have younger, "cuter" sculpts, and when paired with the older, larger sculpts, it simply evokes a kneejerk distaste. Height differences when both sculpts are clearly older looking and have similar proportions just comes across as a height difference; height disparity with a difference in sculpt maturity and scale brings about a perceived age difference, and that's what makes people uncomfortable.

    13. SD and MSD are different scales, that's why only very few couplings might look okay if posed correctly.
If you would both put them in 1/3 scale it would be like 4 foot tall person VS 6 foot tall person
if you put them in 1/4 scale about 5'3" VS 7'10"
so it's not 'short adult and tall adult', even my tallest friend is not 2 foot taller than me (I'm 5'2", he's 6'11")

    14. I think when one doll looks like a child then it's creepy for me. It's nothing to do with scale in my eyes, because all of my MSDs and SDs are adult characters. Then again I've grown up in a family where there tends to be huge height differences between couples as my dad's family are all very tall - so I don't see big height gaps as anything to do with age.

    15. As far as dolls go, I don't have any child characters (though I do have non-human characters)... but I do have dolls that look like children, and it would be squicky to photograph them in romantic situations with older-looking dolls regardless of what I consider the characters' ages to be, or how they look in my head when not heavily stylized in their doll form. And it would be squicky to photograph them in more 'adult' romantic situations even with dolls at the same size and visual maturity level, to me. But that is definitely to do with sculpt more than height.

I do think the height difference between Iplehouse's nYID and SID dolls is really great-- both are 'mature', and to the same basic scale, but it still allows you to have one partner who's significantly taller, at least enough so for me. I love how those two heights can look next to each other. I think it would be possible to have a bigger gap than that and have it be non-squicky, provided the smaller doll was still in an adult scale.

    16. After reading this whole thread - Yeah, I'd stick with your original plan/instincts and keep it non-romantic. I actually feel like romance would be iffy both ways: The girl is several hundred years older than your Saint (who I'm assuming is a mortal young adult from what you've said), so if I think about their actual ages, I start feeling kinda worried for him! Which like you said, could be interesting to explore, but it'd definitely be a moral gray area on both sides. I feel like the dynamic you've set up is interesting without romance, anyway, and they could still be platonically affectionate in photos just because it sounds like they're close! I have an MSD and a slimmer YoSD who are pretty platonically-huggy when I pose them together, but I wouldn't have them romantically involved.

    17. Old picture is old, but this is my MSD/SD couple, Moswen & Kijika. Moswen is an AoD on the old mature MSD body (they've since changed their MSD body style) and Kijika is an AoD/LE Doll collab. In-story there is close to a foot difference in their height. I think the fact that they have more of an anime vibe to their sculpts than a realistic slant helps as well. But that might be just me.

    18. I had wondered that myself with the size pairings. I have a story in mind that involves two boys, one is half demon but is rather short for what he is (demon hunter) and his lover origanally was going to be a man who was a human doctor, but I found another sculpt that fit my demon boy even more. Now Both are in their late teens early 20's, But the demon is MSD and the Human is SD. The SD (Xaga Doll Vic) is very young looking to me anyway, and the MSD (DollZone Hid) looks to be in his teens. So their looks fit each other but the size is a bit different. Do you thing they could work even though the size is so different?

    19. Doesn't bother me.
Then again, to me most people are short irl, so my viewpoint is somewhat skewed on the matter.

    20. To me the size difference wouldn't matter as long as it was stated that the 'younger' character was a consenting adult, actually in your purposed case Eudora would sort of be the 'pedo' since she is actually older than your Dollshe Saint.

From reading the replies in this thread I can see allot of people still would find a paring like this uncomfortable, but I think if people put a warning or such in their thread then really it's up to the viewer if they wish to continue forward after knowing something like that could upset them. Really, if someone intentionally looks at something they know they don't like and then complains about it, they've got more problems then they realize.

I can relate to this particular situation since I have a Dollzone BB Jing (Thaer) who is actually the oldest of my dolls in his character age, he was made my his 'father' to forever look like child even though he thinks, talks, and acts like a very mature adult. To make situations more delicate he and one of my larger dolls used to be a couple (I've never taken any pic's of them together, it's just their backstory), also Thaer is attracted to one of my SD dolls at the moment.

I'm not sure if I would post pictures of the two of them, but if I did I would make it very clear (in giant bold, red text) that Thaer is actually the older partner of the couple, hopefully people would be smart and if something like that would bother them they would simply not scroll down.
      :sweat
