Doll Couples and their heights, When is it not creepy?

Yeah, this kind of pairing creeps me the hell out. When I see something like that I don't see the written explanation "no really, the one who looks 9 is totally a 500 year old vampire!" I see what it looks like and in most cases it looks like pedophilia. There are some MSDs with very mature body and face sculpts and while a doll like that being paired with a larger doll doesn't look like pedophilia, it's simply out of scale and doesn't look believable. Like others have said, the proportions of a short adult vs a tall adult (similar head, hand, foot, shoulder, etc...size just longer or shorter body) are very different than the proportions of a MSD vs an SD. Not to mention that the height difference is so extreme between the two that you rarely see that kind of discrepancy between two adults. One would either be a little person or the other a basketball star.

In any case, you can obviously do whatever you want but be prepared for not everyone to accept it, and DEFINITELY put warnings in your title.

 

The idea of something looking strange in terms of real height is odd. I have a family friend who is just over 5'5" and she recently married a man who is about 6'0". The difference in their height is staggering. However, she certainly looks like the 25 year old woman she is rather than a child. That is the main point, at least in my opinion, when concerning dolls. A mature MSD sculpt, who dresses like an adult, could be paired with an SD. However, it is not something I would do personally. I try to keep my couples within a few centimeters of each other, usually about three, five if the the height difference is large.

 

If they look about the same age, I guess I'm okay. Don't think the length difference is much of a problem for me.....but that could also be because I see that irl quite often..... Biggest difference was a couple in high school: almost 50cm difference (oh and one year )

 

A difference of 7 inches between someone 5'5" and someone 6' (and obviously as real people they are the same scale and I assume neither one looks like a child) is a far cry from a SD vs MSD where the MSD is between waist and rib height of the SD. This is the difference in height between me (5'10") and my 3 year old niece. If both are mature face and body sculpts, they don't look like pedophilia but they are very out of scale with each other and don't look right in that way.

I've commented here before about OP's specific situation, but I think an SD would work romantically with an older-looking MSD - as long as you take pictures with Lord of the Rings-esque camera trickery to make them look in-scale. I don't have any doll relationships like that, but I do have an MSD boy who's meant to be in the same universe as my SDs, so I "cheat" in various ways to make him look bigger next to them. Even just scooting the MSD closer to the camera or lifting them up a little (in a waist-up or closer photo) can help.

 

I too have plans to make my soon-to-be-published fantasy book more alive by gathering doll versions of them. I have a normal 19yo woman who is married to a guy who stopped growing around 13 years and still looks like a pre-teenager. He is 200 years old and the only thing that is mature in him is his voice. He acts like a child, too. Their current doll versions have about 15 cm height difference which is actually not as much as I want it to be and therefore I am looking for a new doll for the guy.

I don't know about the cute kiss and hug photoshoots tho. I guess my boy is too childish for that stuff, but with a height difference of 15 to 20 cm it would definitely be comical. He should stand on a chair or something.

 

Short sculpt/Tall sculpt is fine with me. It happens in real life, after all.

Visually, Child sculpt/Mature sculpt bothers me a lot, no matter what the age of the characters, and no disclaimer, warning, or backstory is enough to take away the ick factor .

 

For me personally it doesn't matter. They are dolls and you should be able to do what you want with them. I mean, sure, a yosd and an SD wouldn't exactly be suited as a couple since they really DO look like a kid and an aduly, but it is still your own decision. I guess I'm just open to things when it comes to this? There is a big difference between fiction and reality and when it comes to dolls they definitely go into the fiction category for me.
