1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll Expressions?

Nov 21, 2012

    1. I think I'm drawn to dolls with knowing looks on their faces. It doesn't matter if it's a hint of a grin or a sad, solemn expression so long as when I look at them, they seem to have sentience.

My Faerynne looks a bit sad at first glance but the more I look at her, the more she seems like she's aware of some inside joke. :) I find that fascinating. I chose Ringdoll's Norman Light 2.0 for the same reason. It looks like he's always gauging someone's worth or something, lol.

    2. Oh absolutely! Any dolls that look sad, hurt, or even at different intensities of anger tend to turn me away from the sculpt. I guess it has mostly to do with the fact that I don't really have any characters that are stoic or more of the "grumpy-gills" type. This is what I base the purchase/creation of my BJDS about, so to me the solemn or irritated or melancholy look doesn't do it for me.

However on the other hand, I've also found that I enjoy dolls with neutral or slight curves of a smile more than just full on grinning. And for this I blame my taste in photography xD I love capturing the almost intense or serious look more than full on smiling, so whenever I look at new sculpt ideas for characters, I focus more on the ones with neutral expressions or the hint of a smile :)

    3. I find myself drawn to faces that I can readily see emotion in, even in the unpainted faces. I seem to prefer the touch of bad boy too, just a little smirk, maybe with a hint of sadness behind it. In the female sculpts I like soft expressions, a touch of innocence and gentleness appeals to me in the girls.

    4. I personally prefer ones with either a cute or versatile expression. I love dolls that have sweet smiles like Ringdoll's Amethyst, but dolls with big open smiles creep me out...
Dolls with their tongues sticking out especially bother me.
