I hope this works for you. The comparison doll is a Ringdoll 03-body. So...70cm vs the 75cm body.

Oof....I liked the color before I put him together. Now I absolutely love it. He's supposed to be a pale Caucasian anyways since he's a hermit. I also hot glue sueded his shoulders, wrists, thighs, and ankles...holy wow he now holds poses like a champ without squeaking xD

Wow. Look at his abdominal muscles LOL, sexy guy. Yes, I think his pale skin is perfect for a hermit character, can't wait to see you build his outlook. I think his neck will be perfect for a turtleneck and layers style clothes. I have 2 Soom ID75 guys, then I try to own a feminine boy body, but after all, I still love muscles
Next time I will buy a DFA body and an Angell Studio 74cm . Then finish my bjd collection.

 

Now, just a warning. I took sandpaper to my guy on his lower torso, upper arms, hands, and feet because they had veins popping up off the sculpt. So when you get your guy it might look different. Tbh I'm still thrilled that the sanding didn't effect how the dye took.

 

Hi All -- I'm ready to buy my first bjd but I'm having a bit of a dilemma and was hoping to get some help!

I want to get the dfa 70cm boy body with the dfa 62cm Max Head:

I know the head is smaller than the body, but would the 8cm difference look bad if bought from the same company? If anyone happens to have these parts, could I please see them together? I want to make sure the head will look proportionate and that the neck doesn't seem TOO long.

Any advice or images would be extremely helpful!

 

@OyabunOfKyoto I think the main problem with trying to hybrid those two parts together is the neck circumference, tbh. Max is made for a body with a neck circumference of 9.5cm while the 70cm body's neck is 11.2cm. That's honestly a huge difference, and it would require substantial modding to make it work.

I have a Karl practice head, which should be around the same size as Max, so if you want I can take pictures of him on my bigger bodies. He definitely won't fit on their necks but it could at least give an idea of what the relative proportions might be.

I think if you want Max on a taller body, you could try the 68cm body? The neck is still bigger (10.5cm) but not as much.

 

Thank you so much for your advice! I was thinking about the 68cm body too -- could I please trouble you for a picture of your Karl head on a 68cm body? Do you think the 1cm difference will look disproportionate or have any issues?

 

Does someone know if Susu will fit a 62cm body? Since I have one coming, I wanted to know if I could put it there or the body is too small for him.

 

So I tried out my Karl head on my 68cm Ringdoll body, link to the pictures here (I hope this works...). Please ignore the frilly lingerie outfit, lol. I think proportion-wise it looks fine, but unfortunately the neck fit is pretty bad. There's a lot of gapping, as you can see. I got confused because the Ringdoll's neck is supposed to be 9.5cm, so I did some measuring and it turns out Karl's neck circumference is closer to 8.5cm??? IDK if Karl was made differently because he's a practice head or if all 62cm DF-A boys are actually 8.5 and not 9.5. Which...would make it a lot harder to hybrid them with taller bodies. X_X Idk, I guess your best bet is to ask someone who actually has a Max or another one of the non-practice head 62cm boys. Sorry I couldn't be more help. ;_;

Edit: So I checked the listing for Karl on Clover-singing (where I bought him) and they say his neck is 9.5. Which makes me think all DF-A 62cm boy heads are actually 8.5 and the official measurements are wrong. >_< If it helps, a good hybrid neck fit doesn't depend only on the circumference measurements. I have an Asleep Eidolon head on a body with a neck that's 1cm wider and it works a lot better. I guess it has to do with the shape of the neck and the hole as well, and probably the way the S-hook fits too. Ringdoll uses a giant O-ring instead of the usual S-hooks so that affects how the head sits on the neck. And if all else fails, there's always modding! So please don't get discouraged about finding a taller body for Max.

 

Honestly this gives me more hope on hybriding Max onto the girl body I own xD
That being said I thought I read somewhere that the practice heads might be smaller than regular heads.

Oh, you did? How comes, I didn't recognize any unnatural, good work, my friend! I heard that some tan skins can't sanding because of the dye colour, but I don't know what exactly happens I thought the resin colour is solid/same colour from inside to outside.

 

Thank you for your information. Yes, it depends on neck circumstance I think all 62cm or 60cm doll heads are really difficult to hybrid to a taller body. I have the same mistake when I love an MSD head (Mio from Dollmore) and tried to match her with a 65 girl body. Goddamn it! They suck when matching, the head barely moves on the body. So in conclusion, don't try to match them: MSD head with SD body. Am I right?

 

It's not that the color isn't the same on lighter dolls (tan, yes, this is a wildly known issue), it's that the resin then isn't the same finish. So sometimes the resin that has been sanded can absorb color more than the non-sanded areas of the doll. I attempted to keep that from happening by taking a Melamine Sponge (Magic Eraser) all over his body to lightly abrade it. Now the areas look the same color as the rest of the body.

 

Oh, now I understand why they don't usually sand the doll, this action needs a skillful hand and patient heart And a painful thing happens when someone accidentally spoiled the sand/modified parts. I tried to face-up one of my dolls before and the magic sponge works amazingly great job. I'm in face-up progress for my second doll but I really want to remove the first one face-up, I'm not satisfied with it anymore.

Some days after I spoke with you. The DollF-A finished their promotion on Alice’s bjd. Hehe. I must wait for the next time. But seem like I will buy a 70cm, I saw a person on Pygmalion discussion hybrid their Pygmalion head with a DF-A 70 perfectly. I’m into it right now.

 

I would also like to know how small of a body Susu will fit
