I too am getting a boy Riq before he goes. I was so tempted to stay small by the discontinuation but TBH it's so hard to find chubby male MSD bodies that I decided better to go big.
Pai Si is pretty cute. If I had to get one anime style doll it would probably be Pai Si 2, the smile is a little more pronounced (and mischievous, which is adorable to me).
Riq’s cute! Not to discourage you from him but if you’re looking for a smaller body, they’re also discontinuing their chubby 1/6 line, and they offer both male and female bodies for that size as well. As this is a mini discussion thread I don’t know if I can post a link here, but there are smaller options available from them if that’s your preference.
I do like the styling for Pai Si 2 more than the first version. Maybe I will just use the mischievous magician's assistant vibe as my jumping off point. Now to decide how many option hands I want....
The discontinuation also made me want to get a Li Qiu. Those who have experience buying extra hands, do you think it's possible to request different hands (for example: left hand type 1, right hand type 2)?
Which male body did you get? I have the muscle body, and was pleasently surprised to find standard MSD boy clothes seem to work. Shoes are another story, though.
@Neela Originally I was going to get myself the small Rulala but when the discontinuation was announced I realized it'd be much harder to find a boy body in 1/4 scale that is chubby. I like the aesthetics of the MSD body too, it's more cartoony and exaggerated.
Ok, question, are Yue Jian and Nan Xing the same sculpt?? If so, I'm assuming the separate names are just to differentiate the fullest. Are there any other companies that have marketed the same sculpt as two completely different characters?
They aren’t, I don’t think. Maybe there’s just small differences to the sculpts, imperceptible in the company photos? Or if I’m wrong, it doesn’t have anything to do with the full sets, or they’d probably just do an A or B option. I’ve seen companies do that before, more commonly with just faceups but also with entire full sets. Or they’ll release another version, like they’ve released the Halloween version of Yue Jian.
