Doll Fashion Trends?

Jul 26, 2007

    1. I just would love outfits that are more common and real! there is a great amount of fantasy and goth and I love them but I love to have a few more outfits that are normal clothes! and Shows to!! tennis shoes be great!

    2. I don't want my doll to dress "urban" lol

    3. Personally I think however someone chooses to dress their doll is just a matter of their taste. :) Personally I do like lolita dresses, but I'm also looking to get my girl some historic/period clothing. I wish there were more options out there for those type of clothes. There are maybe 2 or so designers that I've searched out who actually do those type of gowns. :-/

    4. I've always preferred street clothes for my dolls. I'm not a huge fan of lolita, gothic, girly boys, period clothing... It sometimes seems like the doll hobby attracts people who are into "alternative" fashion, I wonder why.

    5. I prefer casual clothes on my boy. That said, liking anime and manga I always found the lolita style really pretty. When I first started in this hobby, punk/dark/gothic styles didn't bother me at all and I liked androginous dolls a lot. More than 5 years later... I roll my eyes whenever I come across the umpteenth ~dark~ doll, unless it's done really well. However, I am aware that it isn't anyone's fault that I grew tired of those styles, and that even those owners that "get it right" now must have had some not so promising starts.

    6. I just get cloths that i think are cute, or that i think fallow my style. If i see something and i think it would look good on my doll i would get it and not really pay attention to if it fallowed a trend.

    7. Haha both of my girls are goth. However, it's how I've been dressing for years, and it's the style I love.

    8. The lolitas and the pretty boys annoy me...only my PpoPpo and my Littlefee have a lolita outfit. I don't have any boys so I can't really contribute anything to that lol.

What everyone does to their dolls is their business but for me my dolls are odd enough: I don't need to make them be percieved as "weirder". Many of my non-doll friends tend to like my dolls because I don't make guys girly and always dress the girls in lolita outfits...they look like a "regular" doll and they mostly wear Western clothing. It's just not my scene but I'm not going to bash someone who likes those things.

Now what I think is funny is that our dolls have trends just like people do!

    9. I like the gothic and emo styles personally because I have been wear those styles for years and it's a gorgeous style when you understand it. I sometimes find myself wishing for something chic, Bohemian, Victorian or just sporty comfortable to greet my girl with when I bring her home. But, it's just the trend of the time, and that's perfectly okay. It depends on the owner whether or not they want to create clothes for their doll kids. My first girl will be lolita-sweet, punk and elegant/goth aristocrat with a touch of urban. My boy will CEO chic with a touch of sporty and urban. I want my future second girl to be goth/emo chic with a touch of sporty comfortable and Victorian.

    10. I love to see all the different styles of clothing on these dolls, for me that's a big part of it. You can go and look at other people's dolls and see all this personal expression through the dolls. Someone has already said earlier that those not brave enough to wear the extremes of Punk and Goth themselves can still try it out on their dolls.

I'm happy to see girly-boys, Lolita, whatever, I don't find people dressing their dolls just in jeans and T shirts interesting but if that floats their boat, why not? My dolls wear mainly stuff I make and as an ex 80's Goth I'm drawn more to eclectic Victorian/period quirky styles, but that's just me. I'm in my 40's and really don't feel the need to make a statement with my own clothes anymore but I love doing mad things with my dolls. Some people will hate it, but what a dull and vapid world it would be without all this variety.

To all the people who bemoan the lack of certain styles of clothing on the market: making doll clothes isn't rocket science, it's easy to learn so why not start making your own? That's what these dolls are about in the end, they are customizable so go wild and really express yourself

    11. I have to admit that the androgynous male look of the bjd clothing and sculpting is partly what attracted me to the hobby in the first place. I've always had an attraction to beautiful, androgynous men such as David Bowie, Bill Kaulitz, Cillian Murphy, and such. Trends such as goth lite, emo, and the resurgence of glam fits well with my aesthetic when taken and mixed with more classic pieces. I do prefer the chunky s&m boots to tennis shoes though. :)
I find the wardrobe I pick out for my dolls reflects my own personal style - black, grays, and neutrals interspersed with colors of blue, browns, white, and dark reds.
It would be nice to see more pieces that reflect the newer styles in fashion though, as well as more classic pieces.

    12. The style for my doll is kind of like "emo" but its not. It is "scene".
Which is a more happy version. XD
She is going to be in lots of bright and fun colors.

I am tired of going around to all the stores though and only finding black trench coats and frilly dresses. That is all that everyone seems to supply. What is wrong with a nice bright blue v-neck t-shirt every once in a while?
Also, whenever I go out to look for dolly sized headphones, they are NEVER in stock. T__T

    13. Chae-ri is very punk rockish, so a lot of her clothes are handmade, distressed, and/or covered with stickers of skulls and winged hearts. She's wearing a black baseball jersey sweater right now with a neon pink and yellow crossbone heart applique and handmade jeans. Of course, her punk rock image also means she mostly wears either streaked wigs or fur wigs made by me in hot, bright colors--neon pink (her "default"), lime green, bright blue and deep purple.

    14. i don't have confidence to dress however i like, and i like a very, extensive range of clothing and styles! i think thats what got me into the hobby in the first place. my top favorites are casual japanese clothing (or just casual and comfy overall), suits and sweatervests (hey--not many guys can pull it off XD), light and flowy, or hardcore punk rock and scene (two, VERY different things). from my newb view on bjd fashion, a lot of it is in some way "extravagant", even for casual clothing. my dolls are miniature "me", the many personalities of me, who can only stick to one.

      i do see a lot of the same things on the market (well, from a semi "newwb" view), lolita, goth, combat boots, well...coming straight out from liking anime, i feel like i see it a lot...>>;;

    15. I dress (or am planning to dress) all my dolls differently.
Jasper wears bright, girly things to fit with her personality.
Quinn wears casual / 'nerdy' / the occasional 'fancy' thing to fit with his personality.
I'm planning on making Blake fashionable and frilly (Not as fluffy as lolita, I just mean a frilly shirt or something) and Wren will probably just be t-shirts, jeans, done. xD
I'm also planning on having two colour shunning dolls (who will be twins).
I don't really mind if someone feels that my doll's fashion styles are boring, cliche or whatever because I think they're cute. xP

    16. Now, see, that's just the thing I find frustrating--to me it seems too many dealers stock ONLY modern casual clothes like hoodies and cargo pants. (Nine9style for example, and most of Volks' catalogue.) I would never want a doll of mine to dress like just some kid I might see on the street. I want more historical clothing, especially Japanese. But I love all the punk style stuff, and I'm delighted to see so much Victorian-influenced and Elegant/Goth Aristocrat gear (thank you Mana!).

So far I'm happy with giving my kids both casual 'hanging out' gear (usually jeans and tanktops/t-shirts or mompei and haori) and 'dress up' gear-- anything from cosplay, to full kimono and hakama, to whatever their fullset was. I can't afford the beautiful Victorian outfits, but I love them. =)

    17. I really don't care about what people dress their dolls(or themselves lol) in. As a lot of people have said, there is just about an equal amount of everything, but some things tend to stand out more and are more noticed. Also, whats with people saying "I want to see more everyday clothes, not goth or lolita"? Last time I checked, those were every day clothes. XD
The only thing I want to see more of is Lolita dolls. True Lolita, not the too short, black-and-white maid dresses and lacey mini skirts labeled as "Lolita". I have seen some really nice dresses on the market though, but I don't have any female dolls.

    18. I think it's hysterical that dolls also have trends! My dolls just wear whatever, but I'd love to have an 80's doll!

    19. It will depend of the owner of the doll, whatever they use, will be fine. BJD are too beautiful, so anything will be look on them

    20. I try to dress my doll in clothes I'd be wearing if I could. Like jeans - I absolutely hate the way jeans fit me. They're too tight, or too loose, or both, or the rise is always too low or too high... hate 'em. I really doubt there'll be a day when I'll find a pair that fit the way I'd like them to fit. Don't have to worry about that with dolls, though.

I like dressing her in cute clothes that I could never pull off when I was a kid - or even now.
