Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Doll maintenance you just HATE

Jun 4, 2013

    1. I'm scared to restring so I've yet to do it, even though some of my dolls are 7 years old. I imagine I'd hate it though, as sometimes I hate even trying to put the head back on so a whole doll might drive me nuts. As far as other tasks, I hate drawing eyebrows. Hate it.

    2. I'm really dreading having to wash Nadeko's expensive (beautiful, detailed and complicated) DollHeart clothes
also dreading the day I have to learn to string a non-jointed torso
      cleaning my doll
finding a face-up artist that I like and trust enough to send Nadeko to (someday) and explaining exactly what I want in a way that makes sense to another person

    3. I haaaaate restringing, even though I love the feeling of a doll with new or freshly tightened strings. But... My hands...

    4. Restringing, I hate that with a patience. But some days I would rather throw my doll out a window than apply eyelashes. I don't know what's wrong with me but I can never get them right. If I could pay someone to do them, I would. But that require sending them off just for eyelashes and that would just seem pathetic. LOL!

But, no really. I abhor putting in eyelashes with a passion. It's just that deep. I would rather restring all day every day than that!

    5. Oh man I can't believe I didn't mention lashes in my post, because that's the OTHER annoying thing I did today. Mal, you're definitely not alone...

    6. Faceups: eyebrows, I too can never get them to match!

I would agree that restringing is my worst general maintenance as well!

    7. I have a feeling I'm going to hate restringing...I have little patience for things like that lol

    8. I was really scared of restringing my first doll, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. However, I don't own an sd and those must be a nightmare to restring. I personally don't have a problem with any of the maintenance that comes along with this hobby. The thing I like the least is sueding. I have hot glue sueded my yosds so that they can pose better and I really hated it. It was very messy and the glue was hot so I burnt myself quite a bit. It worked though..so I even did my msd. I dread having to redo it when the time comes.

    9. cleaning. most definitely. I don't do faceups though, so I can't comment on that. I don't mind sueding or restringing. But I HATE cleaning them XD

    10. I just HATE restringing, My doll's elastic is so tight even putting away her head is a nightmare so restringing is even worst. My poor little weak fingers just suffer a lot.

    11. As so many others have said, restringing. Absolutely. I always have to enlist my husband to help because I am not known for my arm strength, lol.

    12. I hate removing face-ups...but at the same time, I love redoing them...

    13. I hate when I have to re-blush mu doll's bodies, I take them out and treat them somewhat roughly, so their blushing some times gets scuffed of dirty.

    14. I HATE restringing. > . < It hurts your hands and everything! I also hate doing eyelashes...

    15. I've been too scared to restring but I know it's coming up....things are getting floppy.....cleaning is fine and I'm pretty careful with clothing.....I've asked Celine why she can't take care of herself but all I get is glares.....but you know, you do it because you love them.....funny how people mention "putting a doll up for adoption" sometimes it seems like it would be more like divorce....."i've seen you looking at other dolls online....you don't love me anymore...."

    16. ...let me just throw out taking care of flyaways on wigs! I would rather string and restring again and again than try to maintain a curly wig prone to flyaways :whee:

    17. Cleaning off faceups, and glueing in eyelashes.

A few years ago, it'd be restringing... but I actually like restringing now. It helps me learn how the body is assembled, and how it ought to pose. I feel closer to my doll then!
But cleaning faceups is a nightmare. I wish I could brave acetone... Acetone wipes a faceup in, like, RECORD time. D: I've only used it a few times, and I will say this: it is SO much safer than using a magic eraser. Magic erasers have ruined a few of my dolls. Those dastardly things! >A< Anyway, tangent. Sorry. I really dislike removing faceups, though!

    18. RESTRINGING! I've done it twice on the same doll and I know that it is something that gets easier with practice...but still. I think I just need someone to show me and make sure that it all has the correct tension. I still can't tell if my doll is too loose or too tight.

    19. Cleaning off face up, painting eyebrows. I've yet to restring a doll fully, but I've taken off bits and pieces and had to thread back through entire arms and legs after accidentally letting the elastic snap back.

    20. Changing the Eyes of mini's especially pukipuki, they are too fiddley,

Eyelashes are easier if you cut the lashes in to 3 or 4 pieces then apply them with tweezers!
