Doll Plans 2023

Okay okay, I'm sorry to keep coming back to this thread, BUT my plans have finally somewhat solidified (especially since I got a certification I need to go back to work so now I'll have some income again and can actually work through my list!) So, solidified plans:

• Continue//finish a layaway containing Character #4's body and clothes for 4 & 3
• Order 4's head (this week)
• Place layaway for wigs for five different characters & 4's eyes
• Place layaway for a vinyl doll (!) so I'll take her out, get used to having a doll out places, and hopefully take more photos of my resin crew!
  • Maybe get some cheap doll clothes to alter from non-bjd sources because making them from scratch has not proven to be a thing I will do very much.
  • Obtain any heads on my list which will be discontinued (hopefully none but I'm keeping an eye on several!)

Slight changes from "buy nothing, craft lots and take pretty pictures," but I'm pretty excited about it!

 

At the moment I'm very adamant on waiting for a head I want to shell my character to to come out so that's all I'm really focusing on. Don't really have a lot of money to spend so I'm being frugal as possible and not just trying to be tempted to buy something on impulse. I'll still continue to look for other things to go with my character in the meantime still trying to figure out what body I want.

 

I'm going to buy some dolls, but not many. I have Kaito preordered, so I'll be paying his balance off when that's ready.
I'm hoping to get a rap1993 doll on the second hand market if one comes up.
I'm also on the search for my grail doll too!

Otherwise that's it for me. I'm focusing a bit more on tech stuff. Built a new gaming pc, and getting a steam deck as my partner and I share the one pc.
Also planning on buying a NAS too!

 

I really need to sell off a head [SWITCH Doha] and a girl body! (Or maybe getting a head for that body and a body for the head? ) And more importantly: purchasing a body I need for a floating Venitu head I've had around for 5 years which is going to be an adventure for sure, since its a Dollshe body that I need and I wouldn't like to pay a lot for it, also... Everybody needs shoes (and by everybody needs shoes I mean my boys, the girls have like 10 pair of shoes for them two ) so buying shoes it is!

Right now I'm about to move to a new home so I can't really purchase anything atm but hopefully by june I can start doing all of this .

 

My plan SHOULD have been to focus on moving into a place with more space before I buy more dolls.
... I already bought a doll this year. And with any luck I'll either get in on an order for a specific sculpt this spring, or I'll find the right doll for another specific character at the con I'm going to, but that was the plan before I went and ordered a doll in February, so much depends on how many work hours I pick up and whether or not something happens to cost me more money than planned for.

I'm really hoping to do more wigmaking! And my serious plan is to build up my faceup portfolio. I don't know if/when I'd be really opening up commissions beyond doing them for people I know irl, but my sister is working on sculpting and eye-making and can't really do faceups in between all her other doll crafts, so I'm painting hers, mine, and our mom's one doll, whenever the weather permits.

Maybe some more prop-making, too, I enjoy props and accessories a lot whenever I do have the chance to work on them. I have some unfinished doll-sized plushies I need to make for one of my dolls and if they turn out I'd love to do more like that.

 

Hoping to get my hands on some grailed dolls this year. Outside of that I am hoping to be more crafty - plan on making some soy fiber wigs and doing face ups this year. Maybe start a diorama for my dolls.

 

Re-entered the hobby this year after being on like a 8 year hiatus. Selling off my old dolls to start a fresh.
So far I've gotten 2 big boys (70cm and above).Sending one to a faceup soon and waiting for the other full doll and a body!

Might want to start doing my own faceups with an old doll for practice or something. Want to get more involved in photography and story making!

Hopefully I won't buy any more dolls but Hwahui Hiver from Switch is very tempting as the other two are more handsome sculpts...

 

After ~2 years of pretty much a doll hiatus I want to start fresh, and focus on getting the single doll I'm waiting for to a state where he is somewhat recognizable as a shell of my WoL.. reasonable to how much is left of the year after he arrives, of course.

 

I'm eyeing a beautiful suit that is exactly what I'm looking for but I don't have a body for them yet, so I'll have to wait. I also found the perfect shoes to go with that, but they no longer have the correct color so I'm considering dyeing them when I get to that. Or maybe I should go with another kind... But these shoes are just absolutely everything I'm looking for other than the color of course. I fear I will mess them up if I try to dye them... I still haven't decided.

But what I'm definitely getting are doll stands! I already ordered one, but I need another one for the second doll and I'm still not sure which one I want. They all seem a little too unstable for big dolls. Maybe I should use two stands for one doll? Or should I go for furniture instead?

As for new dolls; I have about 3 on my list: two companions from Ringdoll and a smaller pet/confidante for my first doll. Possibly a potential 4th from Phoenix Mystery. (What the heck, their boxes are so pretty?!) I definitely want one of that brand, but I'm not sure any have truly bewitched me like the first two dolls I got. And the last one on my mind is the Volks 9S doll, but it seems difficult to get him from a trustworthy source.

So, that's like, about 5 potential dolls? That's assuming no other amazing dolls release in the meantime...

 

I got luck to buy my grail doll last year, and I'm a little anxious to his arrival. So my plans are:
1) Make his faceup and body blushing
2) Make faceup and body blushing of my gray skin doll that I confess I'm a little afraid to do 'cause I never had painted a fantasy skin colored doll before
3) Re-make the faceup of my Hyperon
4) Buy eyes for the new dolls
5) Buy shoes and acessories to my boys
6) Maybe buy some clothes or make some clothes for them
... Ald that's all!

 

I'm hoping I'll finally get two dolls I've been waiting on for a while (5 years on one, 3 years on the other). I've finally been getting back into the crafting side of the hobby, and it would help having the additional two dolls for sizing/photos/displaying at conventions. My 3 BJDs (egg excluded haha) would all be from the same artist, and it'd just look so dreamy on my convention tables and in photos, but that's just a daydream until they actually arrive.

I also would like to fall back in love with sewing, although I'm not sure if starting at doll scales will be the best way to do that haha! Once upon a time, I was really good at it, but these days I just fix and tailor.

I might also be brave enough to send my Raspberry off for a face up, but I say that every year haha. I swear every time I'm about to do it, I stumble upon some horror story and change my mind again.

It looks like I can't wait for the clothes.
I confirmed it with my dealer and apparently the deadline for the order is today??!! I was sweating bullets. Because of the tight time limit for the items, I couldn't get all of the ones that I wanted (my wallet still hurts from my last doll), but I got the ones I definitely needed. So at least that's that.
My stand and other doll plans really have to wait.
But, freaking unfortune strikes again!
I just found the perfect prop for my doll!
Why now...
But the shipping can cost up to 3x the price of the prop itself so I'll have to figure something else out. If possible.
That's just freaking absurd!
I need to stop looking at pretty pictures!

 

I'll probably get a few more dolls, but no where like I did in the beginning when I first started the hobby. I am pretty much satisfied with my collection, but I might see something I just have to have. Or, I might need a new character for my drama stories.

There are a couple of expensive outfits I have had my eyes on. Instead of getting a new doll, I might get those outfits. They are beyond my sewing skill.

I am definitely going to sew my dolls new clothes. I love dressing them and sewing for them. I want to work on the larger dolls wardrobe this year, as my smaller dolls have plenty of clothes.

I want to be more active in the hobby this year. Joining photography and sewing challenges, and doing the BJD Addicts prompts. Also, spending more time interacting with others in the BJD community.

I really want to work on my photo dramas this year. I spent part of last year mapping out the scenes and dialogue, but now its time to take the pictures and put it all together.

 

So, I managed to get my prop with another dealer who asks for way less shipping. But that really hurt my wallet.

Looks like I need to purge my wish list a little.
I think, I'll let go of 2 dolls and just save for a pet doll and two/potentially one campanion.

So my list will be max 3 ones for now.

 

I'm hoping to get an Ail body for my AiL second Alice head and a new body for Holly (Souldoll Swinte). She needs a less curvy body. It also would be great if I could give some of my dolls new face-ups, in order to make my group look more cohesive. And, all of them should get proper outfits this year. Since I'm a very slow seamstress this will be a challenge!

 

For once I know exactly what I'm gonna do this year in the hobby
I've got new dolls on order, each with face up as well as their wigs and eyes on order.
My plan this year is to learn to sew and crochet for my dolls!! I'm putting a cap on my dolls for the time being, so the plan is to spoil them and not adopt any new sisters for the next two or three years.

I'm already started on it by making an outfit for my Dollfie Dream Miku. I went through a book to create the basis patterns and then made some paper towel testers for her outfit, that are looking great so far, so I'm really optimistic about how it'll turn out once I can find the right fabrics! It's not my first time sewing anything, but in the past I kinda just winged it and made some weird and wonky things, so hopefully I'll do better this time now that I'm taking it seriously and studying to make clothes made just for their bodies I'll also be crocheting a cardigan for her, after the rest of the outfit is sewn. I'm not new to crocheting, but I'll be figuring it all out in scale for dolls for the first time, thanks to some great tips I read on this forum.

After finishing Miku's outfit, I will make some accessories or extra clothing pieces for her until one of the new girls arrives. Whoever makes it home first gets to be my first 1/4 guinea pig. I have plans for their first outfits and I know their general style to make more. I hope by the end of the year each doll will have at least one or two outfits she can be proud of in her wardrobe! But I uh, didn't get shoes, so I guess we'll either be shoe shopping or barefoot this year.

My initial plan was to not get anymore new dolls than the ones I have on pre-order.
Nonetheless, I am eyeing 3 dolls that seem previous and I really want .
I will probably have to put them on layaway but we will see…I need to think about it as I am also planning to buy a new car later this year and I don’t know if my wallet can take the hit.

 

Since this is my year to get back into the hobby I need to get my dolly lovin butt in gear and:

1. Get everyone out of storage
2. Inventory who & what I have (bc the # of dolls/heads I forgot. I. had. until I was going thru my records is....yeah. R-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s )
3. Decide who's staying & who should be rehomed if possible
4. Work on clothes, wigs, eyes and faceups(!!!) for everyone staying in the crew
5. Re: above, find the right artists as my faves seem to be no longer open
6. Order project doll 1 of 4
7. Order at least 1 body for existing heads
8. Research options for project dolls 2, 3, and 4 but only - and I mean only if sculpt is attached to some kind of time/availability constraint - order one addtl doll this year - otherwise only 1 new full doll in 2023
9. No more heads til everybody gets a body
