Doll Plans 2023

Im completely new to the BJD everything as of last year!
I was finally able to afford a BJD after wanting one since i was a child, and now that im in the hobby, im STUCK TToTT

So my currently list is to:
1. Finish getting the dolls to create my top two roleplay ships and their kids (thank you MDDs uwu)
2. Dress them! I want to learn how to craft so i can make their specific character clothes !
3. Learn how to do faceups because the head I have on my DD i actually cant stand and it doesnt make my character at all ;_;!

 

• Go through my dolls and figure out who needs eyes and in what size and actually write that down in one single place, then choose what specifically I want to get, and order them. Also, glue on eyelashes for the heads whose faceups I finished last summer so once those eyes arrive, I can try them all out as soon as possible.

So, I've actually already done the above this week, but I hadn't felt like writing down any plans for this year before I was sure I was both properly over the burnout on dolls and no longer too into the two new hobbies I got into early last year, since they were very much taking up all of my mental energy as well as money I had left after necessities. Despite having done BJD stuff this week, I'm still feeling excited rather than just relieved I got some dolly related things finally done, so, I think it's safe to assume my interest in them is finally back properly. Meaning, proper BJD plans this year here I come!

• Once weather allows, faceups. I redid Nephele last year, but the plan I'd had for her ended up not working out, yet I had then felt like I had to change at least something about her face to make it worth the effort of having wiped the first faceup, and... I just ended up doing a look I hate. So, I intend to more or less just recreate the faceup I had done the first time. Also, I've finally come up with a proper character I like for my Mystic Kids Vanetta, already wiped her faceup last year but had so many other faces to do then that I had to leave her for this year. Since this year I only have two faceups I "must" do, I'm considering redoing Dahlia's one as well. There's not really anything wrong with her right now, but I know my skills are much better now, so it would be nice to "upgrade" her look so to speak, as it would also make her look more like her twin that has already gotten that treatment.
• Get at least one doll "completed", as in on top of having eyes, faceup and wig I'm at least 95% happy with, they would also have at least one full outfit.
• Take pictures! And maybe even finally make some doll profiles here, but at the very least, it would be nice to finally have nice portraits of the dolls whose looks and personalities have been "locked in".
• Sort of relating to that last one, do some tidying up on my Flickr. Essentially, most of my characters have evolved/changed/split up into different characters and so on so much so it would probably be best/easiest to just move almost all of my old character albums into one named "before 2023" or something and just make new albums for what the characters are now.
• Figure out how I should organize and store my doll clothes. Last year I re-organized and redid the storage of all of their stuff, and I'm happy with most of the other things, but I think the clothing situation ended up being worse, yet I don't want to go back to the earlier way either even if I could.
• Continue writing the story involving most of my characters. I don't intend on ever sharing it, but writing it has helped me a lot in figuring out everyone's personalities and stuff.
• No new dolls, though I'll have to keep an eye open for new releases because I'm pretty sure I'll never be fully happy with one of the shells I have at the moment, so if something more fitting comes up I do want to be aware of it even if I won't buy it this year or even the next.
• Make some furniture. Been intending to make a red velvet chaise lounge for Nephele pretty much ever since I got her, and I'm pretty sure I have the materials for it, but somehow I've just never got around to even starting it even though I remember how fun it was to make a sofa a few years ago.

Plans that depend on mostly my financial situation / whether I can justify putting money into materials I would need :

• So, I found out just last year that apoxie sculpt has a limited shelf-life... Thankfully, I still have some of it in black that's fine, but I'll have to buy more white again before I can try to make some reasonably sized ears for my Dream Valley Coco. I'm fairly certain her big heavy ears are at least half the reason why I'm feeling so meh about her.
• Make wigs. I do have the hair for one character's wig, but I've already attempted making her a wig once and still feel not ready to attempt the same one again. Though now that I think about it, I might have just enough blue hair for another character's wig, so even if I can't get more materials I might be able to do that one at least.
• Work on the new diorama that's going to be in one of my closets. Last year, I dismantled the two dioramas I had earlier out in the open. Even though I mostly liked the look of the previous one, it was just way too big, both in the sense that it took up too much space, but also the inside of it kept turning into a storage space no matter how many times I'd eventually clean it out and swear I'd actually use it for what I built it for. Actually... I should probably think more about whether I really do want a diorama, or if it's just the idea of it that I like. Maybe setting up temporary backgrounds would be more suitable for my needs after all?

 

I tend not to stick to my plans, after all we are 3 months in and I already diverged from the plan I had in mind.

- Focus on purchasing bodies instead of new dolls, especially a body for my HTTdolls Bambee in tan. (This has been broken lol new impulse buy incoming)
- get faceups for the blank dolls. If worse comes to worse, attempt faceups myself.
- shoes and pants...lots of shoes and pants.
- If i find a doll i want to purchase, it has to be on my wishlist. (Again, broken with that impulse purchase)
- Make some hobby friends?

 

March update on my goals. IRL has been somewhat busy but I made some progress. I've spent pretty much all my BJD hobby time this month taking photoshoots and sewing clothes. Always love doing photoshoots so I have no problems with meeting this goal, but sewing really took off and I'm delighted at how much I'm enjoying it. I hit a milestone at the end of March by making several outfit sets for my crew.

I haven't done any faceups, but I'm not too worried - I still achieved other goals, and I can resume faceups if I get tired of sewing. I also haven't done anything on the flight studio, but I have some work downtime coming up in April so I plan to get materials and start building.

I've been pretty well-behaved and not bought any new dolls since early Feb. I am getting antsy and mopey with waiting for all the resin I've ordered, but that's a blessing in disguise because I actually don't feel like buying new dolls when I'm still waiting for orders to come. There is one BJD preorder that I will join (whenever it opens), but this doll was planned since the end of last year and I already set aside money to buy it.

 

I failed my goal this year. I wasn't going to buy any new dolls and sell most of the ones I have to just reduce clutter. I got Volks SDGr Marie Antoinette, but I had my heart set on finally getting a digital camera. I'm hoping that is still a possibility! I hate selling stuff; it's so nerve racking.

 

This is the year I committed to getting back into the hobby and I'm super glad I did, I've had nothing but positive experiences so far and I can't wait to see what the rest of the year holds. My goals for 2023 are -

• Grow my doll family at a pace my wallet can handle That means likely looking at secondhand instead of ordering new, but I want to add a MNF Mirwen, HDF Darae, and a Dear Mine cat this year at the least.
• Learn to sew - I'd love to make some mod 60's outfits for my KDF Darae, but if I learn how to sew then I can make lots of fun fashions and accessories for all of my dolls, maybe even start selling some.
• I don't think I'm up for a full diorama this year, but getting some nice faux backgrounds and a new phone with a better camera would go a long way to improve my doll pics. Maybe further on in the year I can start working on a 1/4 or 1/6 scale set.
• Get a mod 60's Twiggy style faceup for my KDF Darae
• Attend a meetup! I would love to meet other doll people IRL and make some friends in the community - I'm lucky I live in a large metro, I just have to have the confidence to go out there and talk to people!

 

I was planning to take a break from the hobby and I was doing a great job since last summer, but I have no idea why am I super into it since March… May be it’s because I am stressed out so I tend to look for pain killers (hobbies) and other hobbies didn’t seem to be as interesting this year, so I am back into it.

This year I wish I could take more doll photos by using my camera. I also need to style more doll wigs and improve my skill on it. Other than that I guess realistically I wouldn’t have a lot of spare time to fidget around with dolls since I am getting occupied by more urgent stuff in my life.

I planned to sell some of the dolls as I own lots of dolls and some I barely look at them anymore, I feel it’s better to let someone who would take more care of them have it. Though I think I will regret if I really sell them loll We will see by the end of the year if I sell any of the dolls

 

April update!

My attempted plans are:

1) Pay off my 2 layaways! I did... and then started a new one, so I've completed this one but failed #5.

2) Do faceups when the weather improves: Dehali, Issa, Ehseg, Lorraine, Uriah, Nicholas, Edmond. Sold Dehali, Lorraine isn't here yet but I've finished Uriah (now Vesni), Issa and Ehseg. I'm working on Nicholas and Edmond now that their heads are here!

3) Get wigs & clothing for those who need them: Ehseg, Uriah, Nicholas, Edmond. Done except for Nicholas but he's a strange one.

4) Set up a photo box or something where I can practice photography! I want to start doing photostories~ Working on this! I've got some backdrops and things but the weather has been awful. The room I intended to use for photos is currently our little garden nursery to sew seeds indoors while we wait for better weather. So... soon!

and 5) try really hard not to buy anyone new! Failed this.

 

I'm mostly focused on sculpting dolls, I just sent off my order for samples to be made to a caster so that's exciting, and building my collection

 

Oh and also learn how to do faceups, I am terrible at them right now

 

I've just pulled my dolls out of storage for the first time in five years. I've been in the hobby for 10+ years now but life and toxic relationships kept me away. While it's just past the middle of April I want to make some promises for myself and my doll gang:

1. I'm going to save up and get all of my dolls professional face ups. There are two who need it the most and one of them is the OG of my group. I used her as my experiment doll for face ups, but I know I don't have artistic skills to make her as pretty as she should be, and that's okay.

2. I'm going to design, sew, and knit full outfits for 3 of my dolls. While I can't make their faces look nice, I can sew them better clothes. I already started knitting a sweater for one of my boys who's been neglected.

3. Get back to taking pictures, taking my dolls out with me, and doing things with them.

Currently, I'm making room for my dolls in my house so I can properly display them.

 

I am selling a few of my dolls- so I want them kind of gone, that's goal one.
I also want to get back into the hobby with my smaller dolls im keeping - take pictures etc.
And finish up dolls that aren't done yet if I manage to get back into the hobby- otherwise if I cant enjoy the hobby anymore that'll be it ):.

 

1. This hasn't happened yet... But the sculpt I'm waiting on is now the only one that hasn't been released in this cycle sooooo... I will have some decisions to make in a few months.

2. I think, as of today, Leonie finally has a wig! I was afraid it might be a bit long, but it turns out with doll hair, if you're looking to braid the wig, the length shrinks my like, 50%... so once it's braided (as per the character sheet), it's actually the perfect length! No luck on the dress front for Dot, since I'm struggling to figure out how to translate her character design into what I want in a doll. Spoiled Leonie is probably getting another dress in a minute though... Gah she already has so many dresses and toys, she's running out of room in her storage box!

3. No luck on the Peppermint doll front. Just can't find one that captures his character AND is in the right color.

For the last one... Looks like I might be sort of fulfilling this, except without any new dolls. I think I'm just gonna try again with my Heeah.

 

told myself id slow down on dolls and focus on getting my floating heads bodies...INSTEAD OF THAT i bought an unplanned tan erda head, a minifee alan and have a puyoodoll lala on layaway...whoops well theres always next year lol

 

Just getting back into the hobby after a few years, and now with space to display my dolls so they don't have to be packed away in their boxes!

Goals:

• Finish setting up their little cabinet cubbies (wallpaper, some wall decor and props, furniture, etc.)
• Faceup my blank floating heads
• Sell a couple dolls and bodies that I've been holding onto
• Sell some clothings / wigs, probably mostly in-person because I'm too lazy to list and mail stuff
• Buy a little rebel andre? and maybe a delf arwen. Both dolls I've wanted for 5+ years
• Snatch up any old CP Delfs whose sculpts I like XD
• Do a bit of maintenance and restring old dolls, replace old wigs, get some refreshed clothing and wigs
• Go to meetups!

It's a long list, but I'm not feeling particularly pressured to do any of it. 15+ years in the hobby have made me pretty patient with things, and I've been very very slowly amassing / curating my collection since 2012-ish, so I haven't grown the number of dolls I have substantially. It helps that I like the old aesthetics much more; while all the new dolls that come out are gorgeous, they aren't really my style.

 

My 2023 plans went a little awry but they are actually pretty in line for like the first time since I entered this hobby. lol

So my plans are:

• Faceups for Daryus, Heiss and Conradd (sent off to the faceup artist)
• New wigs for Neo, Blade and Aeirion (about to buy!)
• Sell a few clothes, wigs and eyes
• New clothes for everyone (not started)
• Sell 2 heads and 2 bodies
• Buy a body for incoming Fairyland 2022 Halloween event head
• Get in some faceup practice
• Possibly do faceups for the final 3 heads in my collection
• Buy the last head I plan to buy (famous last words, waiting for head to be for sale)

 

I’m getting back into the hobby after a long hiatus. I sold my msds some time ago and have a Puki Puki living at my mom’s house because she loves it, lol. This time I’m going anthro! I’m really excited to see how diverse anthro dolls have become. It’s great to see more yo-sds, msds, and even SDs where there used to mostly be wee tinies. I think I’ll go for a Zuzu26 Delf first. I had always shied away from Zuzu Delf because they seemed so hard to dress, being such an odd size.

I would like to learn to do face ups at some point but I don’t expect that to happen this year.

 

I'm a baby to the community, so this year I'm starting fresh.

2023 Goals:
- Preorder friend for Mellow (Groomy/Cocoriang) DONE got Marshmellow Groomy won't arrive until November
- Order Dragon friend, Mo (Rafayeh/Whale Tower) DONE hopefully arrives in August
- Attend first doll con! Resin Rose in August! I can't wait
- Buy first human bjd doll, fantasy themed maybe, especially looking for dragon horns or feathered wings
- Buy 3rd Cocoriang at Resin Rose, which one will be a surprise to see who speaks to me in person! Excited!
- Photoshoot in Portland Rose Garden with a friend!

 

I'm still super new to this hobby, so I feel sort of like a kid in a candy store BUT I'm trying to pace myself!! My current plans/WIPs:

1. My Resinsoul Su was just modded (by me) and sent to have her face done, she's shelling my WoW blood elf warlock
2. Waiting on my Resinsoul Wei with custom additions (thank you Resinsoul for being the realest) that will most likely go on a Dollzone body or Island Doll body, depending on what looks best.. she's gonna be my WoW half-orc detective, and I actually found a detective outfit being sold secondhand! Excited!!
3. Yet another WoW oc being planned: an indie artist head I just pre-ordered will go on a Soul Kid body, and I need to commission a custom wig for her unusual hairstyle
4. I'd really like to make a 'mini me' doll eventually, even if it takes a while. Possibly of my fursona? Something very small, like 1/12 so I can take her traveling for a giggle.
5. Eventually would love to grab an Angel Of Dream Fei, feeling comfy letting her wait considering she's not limited or anything. Watch me jinx it just by saying that lmao
6. Morningstar dolls responded to my email a couple months ago saying she was planning on re-releasing some dolls eventually, so here's hoping that happens sometime this year! I adore her plus-size bodies.
