Dec 10, 2010

    1. Tuva's wig is cute with her pretty dress!

Good news! I got the shipping notice on my Alexia! She will probably be the first doll to arrive this year!

    2. Nancy! Has your Alexia arrived yet? :D

Here is my sweetpea with his toy donkey...

The donkey is a finger puppet. I saw it and couldn't resist!

    3. Alexia arrived today after eight days in customs! She is wonderful and more delicate than I imagined! She's looking for the perfect outfit!

    4. Hopefully in the summer I'll be able to bring an Alexis girl home. I love this chubby girl! :)

    5. Adding a pic of my Alexia, who I think might like the name Ashley:

    8. So pretty, Ann, Vicki and Melody. I just found this thread, can you believe it and am enjoying all of the fabulous pictures of this most beloved of my dolls. Alix waves hi to everyone and will post her picture when I can figure out how to do it.

My Alix came in 2010, but I never saw this thread until looking for something else yesterday. My dumb.

Here are her Flickr pictures-with some of her many outfits.

    12. Hello thread, long time no see!

I'm popping in to share a (grainy - the sky has been overcast) photo of my Alexia, who received a face-up last Sunday. No clothes in sight yet, alas... I have to draw up the patterns and everything, so this may take a while.

      Florens by severelysigune, on Flickr

I got a girl, but it's a boy :p. Originally, my Alex Hansel was going to be Florens, but I love him so much in his fullset look that I couldn't get myself to change anything about him... So he is staying Hansel. And I got a blank Alexia to be Florens. The only reason why she is a girl is that I felt so ridiculous buying the same doll twice. So, um, though she is going to be a boy, I can always tell myself that she is different and I did not get two of the same. (Never mind my two Narsha Zihus.)

    13. Wow, she/he is gorgeous!!!! :)

    14. Nice masculine faceup...and a question .Do the Hansels have, er, boy bits? Or is it just Dollmore's usual thing to get the doll a new outfit and faceup and call it a guy? Anyway, love your fella, very well done.

Thanks, Sharon. Guess they do that for Alex/Alexia too.

    15. I have a Dollmore Dolpire boy, and he is a "real" boy.

    16. Alex's lower body is definitely not the same as Alexia's, jenthered - and neither is his torso, for that matter. Alexia has very small breasts whereas Alex is completely flat, and yes, he does have boy bits, though as you can see in the (non-graphic) photo I linked to, they are stylised.

I didn't know it was supposed to be a regular thing with Dollmore to just change the clothes and say it's a boy...? Not in my experience, anyway.

Thank you for your kind words about Florens! Much to my own surprise, I have already figured out how I'm going to dress him. Now I only have to carry out the design :p.

    17. Thank you for the lovely and discrete photos of Florens. With his new faceup, he looks much more masculine than I would have thought. I am tempted by him now, but with three Alexias, all with different faceups, well....Your new guy is just amazing and will look great dressed. Dollmore has a tendency to use the same head for either sex and then just do some altering on it. I'm glad to know that they go further. :-)

    18. jenthered, I have to confess that all my Dollmore dolls are Gu Mi-jeong sculpts, so I don't know anything much about the 'regular' Dollmore dolls... Gu Mi-jeong's body sculpts aren't to everyone's tastes, but the boys are boys and the girls are girls - I totally get why that may be important to you, and though I have two girls masquerading as boys, it's important to me too!

I do think that Dollmore's default face-ups tend to be rather girly, and you can greatly change the look of any face by dispensing with the eyeliner :P. Of my two Zihus, one has a Dollmore face-up (too nice to wipe! I couldn't do it) and one has a home-made, no-eyeliner face-up that makes all the difference and really does turn my girl Zihu into a boy.

Personally I have no problem with one head being used for girls or boys, especially when the face is a child's. I find that I rather enjoy the fact that I have two of a sculpt that I love and yet get a totally different look out of both. But I think that the owner of three Alexias doesn't need much explaining of that sentiment ;).

May I just ask, since you have three, if your girls all have locks in their knees to help them stand securely? My Alex (Hansel) is almost hopeless at standing up, which is no doubt partly because I need to tighten his string, but I checked and he has no locks in his knees. I bought him second-hand, but the previous owner said that she purchased him in 2012. He is entirely mellow in tone, so I'm thinking that he may have been made even earlier than 2012. My brand-new Alexia stands like a rock, on a tight string and with locks in her knees, so I'm thinking the locks were a later addition. And I'm kind of curious to find out if that is true.

    19. Okay, I had to go and look. They seems to have the same knees-and all are from different generations, one second hand, two new from DM. What I did to help them all was to string them with silicone kips at their knees, which has made a lot of difference. I have the first generation Alexia, third, with a beautiful faceup by Jay Searle and Sediment...Sediment and the Jay doll are strung much more tightly, which makes them less poseable than my first girl. So I'm waiting, Sigune, for gravity to take effect. I guess my problem is that I think of them as about thirteen, so not children and therefore possessed of quite different faces, but your dolls have really opened my eyes.

    20. Alexia took my heart a year ago, when I saw her first time )
And now she is finally at home )

      just walking along the alley..
