Dolls For Christmas

Dec 4, 2009

    1. Pffffftt... I always ask for a doll for Christmas! It is my one big gift. I paid for about 1/3 of my own gift this year too so I'm willing to chip in when I can. But they are something I want and X-mas is a good time to ask. So I don't see why not.

    2. Well, I didn't get anything on Christmas of '08, so that's how I got Aurora a few months later. Sort of like, a rain check.

As for this year, I'll be getting my third doll, a Model Doll from Dollmore. ^^
      I'm pretty excited.

As for my parent's reaction, yeah, they're pretty mad at me for having such an expensive hobby. xD
But they get excited during box openings too.

    3. i adopted a BBB Sprite from the market place for me for Christmas ((with my moms help)) and the tracking info says she'll be home Christmas Eve at 9pm lol. it'll be a very merry Christmas for me =^_^=

    4. My mom always spends about enough to buy a tiny on me. But I've never asked for a doll. Because I always think "STOP SPENDING SO MUCHHH" so asking for a doll is just...no for me :'D It'd be nice but not something I'd necessarily ask for. I like saving myself : )

    5. @ Laelen: Lol it took me like ten minutes to figure out who you were XD I plan on bringing Quarentine to the meetup in January... hopefully I can actually get to that one. My new big boy will be there too, yay!

On an on topic note, also forgot to mention that my mum's wealthy boyfriend gave me 200$, which I plan on using for another doll. Yes, I am totally having the best christmas ever this year... I sound so spoiled, but this is really abnormal for me! I'm over the moon about it, and really grateful~

    6. Well, last Christmas, I got a celebrity minimee, my 63 cm Lan, and this year there is a wrapped package
that contains an Elfdoll MSD. My husband spoils me terrifically!
One of my Daughter in Laws, is big on gifts and she usually gets me doll things, too.

    7. Lmfao, Laela. I have the snobby antisocial blond vampire ;D. I haven't been to the meetups lately, so i dont blame you :< too busy with school and such. Mercy's quite memorable though, haha, so there's no way I could forget you! I'm going to try my best for january ~ >u<! Hopefully I'll see you and your new darlings there!

Now I'll let everyone get back OT. :V lul.

    8. I got a limited bambicrony tiny this year and a shil load of other gifts and surprises. With the money im making from selling Ive been able to buy my own dolls and spoil myself for once ^^

    9. xD Laelen every time you post and I see it on the front page, I look fast and I always think it says "Larien" and I'm like, "I didn't post there!"

Anyway - I won't be getting dolls for Christmas... I wanted a Michael Kors leather jacket and a Juicy Couture bag that my mom got me instead anyway. My dad gave me a *lot* of money but I really need a new desktop PC... So no dollies this year! I'd have picked the Soom Beyla though if I could have one. Maybe if I have cash left over!

    10. my husband doesn't get my obsession and my family wouldn't either but I slowly broke it into them... one person at a time. My hubs doesn't get it but he gets that its a hobby and I really enjoy looking at the dolls in photostories and want to be apart of that. So when he asked me what I wanted, I told him I wanted Iplehouse Chase, although I knew it was a huge thing to ask for (haha like WAY too much to ask for ) so I mentioned the puki puki. I went into surgery this weekend and came home afterwards to find that he had looked into ordering and asked me how to order it for me. lol. So that was a very nice surprise. Everyone has their hobbies and I don't tell people about the price of the dolls because they wouldn't understand. INstead, I just show them but they get it that I like it because it appeals to the artist side of me (I can use the doll for paintings and such).

With my parents? Well, they usually just get me what they want, even thoguh I ask for doll things, they support the hobby verbally (minus the OMG HOW MUCH?) but otherwise, they have no idea where this hobby came from and at least its a collection that doesn't depreciate in value, but they'll never put out money for gifts.

I'm really sorry t hear that your husband doesn't support you verywell (like help you to buy things) and its an unfair thing to put regulations on gifts that you want. What you like is what you like. :)
      No changing that.

    11. @ Larien: Hahaha, I do that whenever I see Laela post. it's always like "wait- what?!?...oh" xDDD. Mmmm MK <333. You've gotten wonderful goodies for christmas ;D!

    12. I technically don't celebrate Christmas especially with the whole extended family so we don't do any gift exchanges. My parents always make up for it by always buying me something 'big' for Christmas instead. Two years ago they bought me a Luts Lu Wen. This year my dad didn't know what to get me and my mom commented on getting me another doll. Little did they know I was way ahead of them. I got a Bygg from the marketplace so I'm considering him to be a Christmas present from both myself and my parents. I just paid him off last week and he should be arriving this week so he's just in time for Christmas! :gingerbreadman

    13. I'm one of those who do not want a doll for Christmas nor would I ever ask someone for one.

My foremost opinion is that it's too damn expensive for me to ever request from anyone as a present. And my dolls for me are very personal things, so it would be nigh impossible to match dolls by my preference because everyone has a different opinion of beauty. So I think it would get really messy if I got a doll I didn't really like because I wouldn't be able to sell it nor would I be able to give 100% of my heart to it, which would turn it into a neglected, useless keepsake in the end.

    14. I wouldnt really ask for a whole doll for Christmas. But, the way things worked out, my dad and mom never know what to get me, and aren't internet savy enough to go online and look for what I like even if they did...So, considering the fact that I had bought a MD Ryu head on a spur since Migi will change the resin next round, I mentioned how neat it would be if I could get the body I wanted.

So, after a couple convo's, my dad said ok. The origional plan was I payed half of the body, this was my idea because I felt badly. But, My dad wound up saying that I would pay for his clothes and eyes and whatever, and he would pay for the body :D

Which worked out because I wanted a DT15B body, and they arent cheap in dollie land. I still feel kinda bad, but because it's Christmas, it takes some of the stress off because, well...Christmas lol.

I think if a person still lives with their parents and their under 18 or 21 or whatever age they consider 'adult', then it's fine to ask them. Maybe negotiate and split the prices. If you dont have half the price still, do a payment plan or some deal. I don't think I'd ask a friend, or a boyfriend. Maybe if I was married I'd ask my husband. But I don't know.

    15. I never thought to ask for a bjd from my family since I knew my parents wouldn't be willing to spend that kind of money on a doll, but this year my mom has been asking me for months what I want.
A couple of weeks ago I emailed her a link for an off topic Volks 27cm that I want mainly as a demo for a panel at a convention in January. I figured they would probably be willing to spend $30 on something I said I wanted, even if they thought it was silly. When I got to my parent's house yesterday, my mom told me the link didn't work and asked me to show her what it was I wanted. So I opened the Volks USA site and showed her. She said "Honey, I'm not going to buy you a doll. Don't you think you're getting too old for this? I didn't buy you Barbies when you were little, and I'm not going to buy you a Barbie now. " So I guess I'm completely on my own for the doll thing.

    16. I feel so bad for begging for a doll for Christmas. I'd like to earn one instead, like through savings or as a gift for getting good marks in school. I asked anyways, and being the only thing I asked for, rather than a ton of expensive video games my father was so much more willing to get than a silly plaything.

She's currently in the closet I think waiting to be wrapped for going under the tree. I hope she's there instead of the post office.

    17. When I was little people always asked me what I wanted for Christmas, but I never got anything I asked for. Actually my brother and sister usually got the gifts that I had asked Santa for and I got some cheap little trinket almost saying well we have to get you something so here you go. I eventually stopped asking. Hubby will not buy me a doll or any impractical gift for any occasion, inlaws won't spend the time it takes to look for something in the way of an individual gift, and my family has never changed so imagine my surprise when hubby told me he wanted to get me something I really wanted so I was to order any 1 doll that I really wanted for Christmas/graduation present. and then I managed to do a split with someone on my doll and now I get 2 new dolls for Christmas. My first Elf and my first MSD. He is also buying my daughter her very first BJD because that is what she asked for.

I am actually excited for Christmas this year....well I would be if our dolls were going to arrive in time but none of them will be here until after the first of the year sometime so...no Christmas for me LOL.

    18. Two of my closest friends decided to buy me a pipos robin for christmas this year, which to me is such a big deal, i just about cried when they told me their decision. He'll be my first gift doll ever, and my best friend is already spazzing out over how tiny he's going to be. **spazzes out too**

My family aren't so much into the hobby, while my mum respects it she does think it's an awfully expensive hobby though she will go out and collect little bits and bobs for them (she found a doll chair at the markets a couple of months ago and thought it would look great for Bory) but i could never ask for a doll for christmas, or doll accessories for that matter.

Should I receive any money from Christmas this year, it'll go towards doll stuff. :) Otherwise, it's back to work!

    19. I avoid asking for dolls for Christmas. xD My family still hasn't gotten used to the whole... 300$+ thing that I have going on. xD; Slowly and hopefully! I stay away from sites like Iplehouse and Soom for my own good. LUTS is still working its magic on me though...

BUT LUCKILY my family doesn't believe in my academic achievements, so I made a bet with my aunt that if I got a 4.0, she'd loan me her credit card with a limit of 300$. I got a 4.25. ;D My boy is now going to have a body soon! Best Christmas evveerrrr.

    20. WOW congrats on that grade. you must have busted you but for that.
