Dolls For Christmas

Dec 4, 2009

    1. Oh I asked for money to save for my doll and my mother FLIPPED. She asked me to tell her a bunch of things I wanted, and said there really wasn't anything I wanted. She wouldn't have that, since she wanted me to have things to 'open.'

      Lol I pointed out that there wouldn't be a point in getting me things just for the sake of getting me things, and I think she's caving. All I'd ask for is anime/games anyway, and I really don't see how it's any different from giving me money to get something I WANT.

    2. The next time someone has a problem with you asking for dollie stuff, put it in perspective. Address their hobby and show them that your wanting a doll is like them wanting a new video game, or a Coach handbag, or any other number of frivolous purchases, lol. My boyfriend supports my love of dolls because I support his 40k figures and we have a mutual respect for eachother's hobbies because of our support. If your boyfriend and MIL have hobbies that they spend a good amount of money on, try to compare the purchase of the doll you want to something of equal value they would buy. Or, if either of them have asked you for a gift pertaining to said hobby, you can also use that to your advantage. You might also want to back your reason with facts as to why the dolls are expensive (such as the casting process and the fact that each is handmade). As it is, best of luck and I hope you get what you want most for Christmas!

    3. Tell 'em to make sure to get gift receipts, so that when they give you all of the crap you told them you didn't want, you can return it all and get what you wanted in the first place.

    4. I am supported by my husband in wanting a doll, but frankly wouldn't ask my family members for something as personal as a bjd.....or doll stuff, though I would love to get it for Christmas. Right now our budget is a little tight, so our family doesn't spend alot on each other- mostly just gift cards and homemade gifts such as cookies, candy, etc. My hubby did mention about the Puki Puki I have wanted, but I told him I would save for it since my first doll was coming soon...and I still have to get clothing for her.

      I would say if they don't want to buy you a doll, just make a suggestion like give you money or a gift card to your favorite store, where you would order your bjd, or dolly items.

    5. I have asked all of my family for a BJD or clothing for one that one of my family is getting me and there all like ''Oh, you want anything else? *sigh*''
      I just explode!
      And my older brother is always in my buisness looking at everything and anything and now that h knows my obbsession that I have had for like 2 years everytime he see's me talking about them or me counting my money saving up he says
      ''BJD'' and raises his hands and does a stupid look that i can't explain or he goes
      ''Oh for your BJD'' acting all stupidly cool and like he figured out Antlantis!

      Nobody in my family supports me or cares and their just selfish!

    6. Lol, my Boyfriend completely supports my rejuvenated obsession, my mother and dad on the other hand do not. though from my dad I'll be getting a really nice sewing machine. My step-Father also supports it and my Christmas present from him is a pair of headphones and one doll. the doll I must pay back sooner or later, but hes ordering it and allowing me to pay in increments.
      So there is some support in my family!!! lol.

    7. Funny this comes up.

      My birthday is the day after Christmas, and I'm getting my very first doll for my birthday. I just ordered her a few hours ago, actually. :) Angel of Dream MSD Rao! With customized make-up... ;)

      But I've been into these dolls for two years now, and I'm FINALLY getting my first Angel. My mother finds it weird, but came to find them very intriguing. She isn't into it like I/we(as an online community) are, but she only despises it when I rant about it (which I often do, seeing as I FINALLY ordered my Angel!)

      People don't get it. It's like someone's love for antiquing (which is my mother's thing). You love it because it's fun, you find rare things others might not, it's all very personal, all your choices, and you put in work, effort, and time into refurbishing things. And it all turns out beautiful.

      It's the same for us doll lovers. Try comparing it to that in the face of "non-believers". We all have our quirks and our obsessions - your husband probably has his.

      We must stand and fight!

      Anyways, my end statement being, I can't wait for my doll and it's rare I'll ever get one for Christmas again if I turn out loving her as much as I think I will. I'm getting supplies/shoes/wigs for her for Christmas, this much I know. The family is okay with that, seeing the average doll wig or shoes and such go for around $20-$30, something semi-affordable that isn't a video game.

      RANTAGE :o

      Sorry. But yes. That's my take on it.

    8. Hmmm... what I did last year was browse around on ebay, copy the links to stuff i wanted (some wigs and boots), and tell my family that my christmas list was saved on the computer.

      I don't think anything I asked for was over $25 including shipping, so I didn't feel too guilty. ^^ It actually kind of relieved everyone, I think, since I never ask for anything and I'm a pretty hard person to gift. XD

      I've never asked for a doll, or anything of that sort, though. D: I wouldn't feel comfortable with someone spending that much money on me if it's not an engagement ring or something XD
      ....but I digress.

      ...lol

    9. I want to ask but I'm particular. My husband has good taste but probably wouldn't on the basis that most things I could make for myself. (I'm a clothing designer and gosh darn crafty to boot.) He could surprise me yet. You never know; that's how I got my Senior Delf. The majority of my family doesn't know I collect dolls and I wouldn't tell them. They won't get it, anymore than I understand scuba diving with sharks or fanatical square dancing.

    10. my mum had asked me what i wanted for x-mas (I already have a Tv.sewing machin.laptop.camera.car.) So I tried to ask for a doll this year...but no luck...so i told her (Mom) A happy medium is doll cloths...now theres a big dollmore box downstairs and i dont know what she bought me!

      The suspensie is killing me!!!

      No dolls this year....hmmm...I could try for my birthday...big 2-0....that's worth something nice right?

    11. I asked for my first doll for X-mas last year... I was asking for a Luts Delf Shine. My dad couldn't figure out how to order them so he gave me the money. My mom talked me out of the shine and told me to find one that came with clothes. :c So I got a DZ Hid as my first doll. c: I asked for another SD for Christmas again this year but my mom talked me down again and I got 2 MSDs instead. xD One day I will get an SD (birthday >> mwahahaha).

      My family thought it was weird at first when I asked for a doll for Christmas since I never really played with them as a kid. It was always dinosaurs or animals with me! My mom really likes my herd of resin monsters now though. She bought me stuff for them for christmas! :3 I was really excited when I got a new wig for Mikko today... she told me to stop touching it though otherwise all the hair would be gone in the morning. 8C

      I can't say my whole family is supportive of them though, my "stepmother" and her daughter think they are demon dolls. They also think I worship Satan too. xDD

    12. my family can't really afford to buy anything for christmas this year (my mom is a librarian, my dad drives truck.road repair for the town) but my mom is always giving me little things that she thinks would be cool for my dolls, little props and stuff from sales at michaels or joanns or walmart. she supports it because i have no other hobbies, really o.o;

      my dad, on the other hand -_-;;; thinks that i'm insane. he threatened to throw out the boys boxes when they arrived. glad i got here before he did >.>

      good luck with your MIL, dude :\

    13. Presents never really go well with me in my entire family. I seem to always get clothes I would never wear 8/ So asking for a doll would not work out for me because I'm sure no one would know how to go about doing it on top of it being expensive. Same for asking for doll related things. But since I'm still in the kid range [child/niece/grandchild] I can ask for money in a Christmas card and just go from there...

      The family does support the hobby though, they always ask how my dolls are when I'm at the grandparents house [my lola is always asking my younger cousins if they want a doll like mine whenever i have on with me ^^] . I just don't think some are capable of the ordering process ^^;

    14. Yes and I always get the same "How much?" and when they know the price, they got a " (O.O) "reaction >.>
      I will get two msds this Christmas coz I saved for it. If my father solidly agrees to buy me one this year, i'll get a msd and sd. :3 nom nom nom

      Edit:
      For Christmas, I usually get things that I don't like and those t-shirts that I wouldn't wear unless I haven't washed my clothes for a year! I usually get those unwanted gifts from my grandma but I can't say "I don't like your present! It sucks~" to her coz I don't want to break her heart. >.< So those t-shirts just keep on piling until I give 'em away. {I'm a girl and she keeps on giving me polo shirts and other tops for guys not that I mind wearing them...}

    15. Since last year I have gotten dolls for x-mas (when I first started hording them lol). Last year my grandma bought me my KDF Ani and my mom paid for half of my DOC Leya. This year my grandma bought my breakaway head a Delf body and my mom bought me a puki with extra stuff >w< I am very lucky. Although not all my family is supportive (like my sister) most genrally accept that I love them and want them, or more towards them.

    16. It took a lot of convincing to get my dad to get a Puki for me ^^;

      He changed his mind when I said I would reallyreallyreally like an Iplehouse Luo lol

    17. My littlefée Shiwoo, Ghost, was a Christmas present from my lovely fiancée last year, although since he was a layaway I didn't actually get him till June. :lol: And I got her a Leeke Rihael head. ^^ She's also gotten me clothes and things for birthdays/Christmases. I can't imagine being with someone who didn't have similar interests to mine - or at the very least would tolerate and support my hobbies. I would be really upset if the person I spend my life with ever put me down like that.

      My best friend made me a beautiful outfit for my Juri '05 one year too. :D

      I would never ask my family for doll stuff, though. They don't do gifts related to my weird hobbies. I don't even think my parents know about the dolls, and that's fine with me. They tolerate the anime thing, but I don't ask them for stuff related to that either. I ask them for house things or clothes that I can't afford instead (since I spend all my money on dolls XD).

      Of course I would love to see a dollie under the tree someday - hopefully a less-expensive one - but I'll rely on my chosen family for that rather than my blood relatives.

    18. Well, the little cabinet we went to claim today was a bust -- was more expensive than I remembered and a little too small. But the thought counts. ;)

    19. I never ask my parents for dolls as a christmas present, they have 2 still growing kids under their wing and I know they dont have the extra cash for it. I usually go for doll-related items like a coupon for the local fabric store or an airbrush this year even.

      We make a list of things we want and my parents pick items from that, sometimes adding something extra. My list most expensive item at the moment is $50, the rest is below that.

      BUT I gave myself 2 dolls for christmas. They both will arrive way past the time of christmas :| but I spoiled myself silly this year.

    20. I dont ask for dolls.... Its already pretty difficult just buying one without my mom's complaint xP

      So I try to find other things... but I rarely ever get what I want for christmas because its too expensive or they just dont want to buy them....

      Example; this year I want to get a camera, it cost about as much as a doll, so I thought I could get my family to just give me money for it, but I'm sure that they will try to find something to buy me instead....

      Or they will give me money or gift cards.... they want me to spend it for me but not on what they consider junk... so in the end I dont use it or just buy food and books ....

      But this year I got myself one complete doll and I will buy a head for my sister in a few days =D
      They'll both arrive way after Christmas... but its still a little gift ;3
