Dolls For Christmas

Dec 4, 2009

    1. I haven't gotten presents for about...4 years or so, for my birthday or christmas ^^; So I definitely don't get dolls!

    2. When it comes to family I don't ask for anything doll related. Not because they don't support it, they just totally don't understand. And so It would just be mean to send my poor grandma out there looking for wigs for a littlefee. But they are used to this as I have been in to art my whole life, and they are very much more in to pratical arts. (sewing clothes for people, making quilt racks. but not quilts for some weird reason) And so they learned the joys of a gift card instead.

My friends however are a WHOLE different matter, we enable eachother horrificly. I got in to dolls and drug my bestfriend/roomate with me... We ganged up on her sister and hauled her in too. This year I got my roomate a Little fee Pipi... she got me a bisou... and two advent calenders taped togeather is our "countdown" till shipping time.

    3. I've asked for doll accessories/clothes for Christmas but not a doll. That's only because my fiancee is extremely supportive of the hobby and has bought several of my dolls. He's so sweet. He even remembers their names.

In fact, for our anniversary, he funded my dream doll which I purchased from the marketplace. She's an MSD F06 with suarrikko jointing ^__^

    4. That is so sweet, ellejayvee. I think my husband is coming around, but he'll never be that supportive. BJD's creep him out.

    5. I'm getting a Musedoll Ciel for Christmas. Actually, it's like a present from myself, mom, and my Dad. All of us contributed towards her. I would love to get some new outfits like from MuseDoll's online store...but the shipping KILLS me :( . I just can't do it...yet!

Luckily, I don't get deadeye stares from my mom. She collects too. My Dad just gave me money. I'm not sure on his stance but I don't think he cares :D

    6. Well I suppose it pays to be young O.O
I'm not looking forward to moving out after reading all of these comments.
Luckily, my mom is pretty supportive of my hobby now, and is semi-understanding about the price. When I showed her Soom Chrom, I said I wanted him for Christmas. She told me that $700 dollars for a doll with no faceup, no eyes, and no clothes would be the only thing I was getting, and of course, I found that reasonable. So he became mine. However, I did pay for the deposit of the layaway, and I did offer to pay for other things. Yet she still proceeds to get me a $50 wig for him, and get me other presents! I don't know if I should be happy or feel guilty. :( She even gave me money (out of her pocket) to go buy her presents from me! She felt bad because I gave her all my money for my doll! D:

Christmas is a big thing in my house, and I'm an only child, and I'm 15. However, I know this isn't going to last forever.

    7. pays to be old too, I am over 30 and still get presents from my friends and mummy and daddy..and here is the creepiest part.......there are now THREE doll sized boxes under the tree. I know what is in two of them...but three? WTF?

If people are thinking I am spoiled (I am, but that is a different story) you should know that several people contribute to buy me one doll......and that is precisely why I am creeped out by three, one is fully gift, one I mostly bought, and the other is total WTF

    8. Wow, three doll-sized boxes?? That's awesome! I'd be happy just to get my little Erin. Or even just a dress for Paige.

    9. PinkPoodle: I feel you pain!!! I have the exact same problem. My husband and his mom ask me what I want for Christmas and birthday, and I keep telling them, just give me doll money. Because I know they don't like the dolls at all.
They flatly refuse. They will never give me anything that relates to the dolls that they abhor.
And I'm just as frustrated as you. It's all I want. I never ask for anything else. I don't even ask for an amount. Five bucks could get me a nice fur wig. But noooo. :|

Anywhoo... yeah. I know what you're saying!

    10. You know, i really hate Christmas this year. My parent keep asking me what i want for Christmas but i have no demand for other thing excepted doll stuffs. I try to tell them that i don't need junk. please stop buy me something that i do not want like new clothes, shoes, or electronic stuff. I got nintendo wii last year and i only played with it a few times. such a wast:doh I don't want something that i do not use, but they don't understand me,so i said that i need nothing for Christmas. They look at me like i am a crazy spoiled teenager. What they want from me? when i tell what i want they don't listen.when i said i want nothing they think i am a spoiled brat.
Finally, They tell me to looking for something in Amazon and they will buy it for me. They think that there is no doll stuff in Amazon but they are wrong.
I made Cinamon Dale doll as my wish list in Amazon. I know that they will get crazy when they see it

I want bjd as my chistmas though but i will never tell them. I will never let them figure out how much they cost. They will kill me if they know the ture.:|

    11. I told my husband what I wanted for Christmas was doll stuff, and he just gave me an askance look and said it's not thoughtful enough.

      Brat.

      XD

So I asked for a Netbook instead. :P

    12. I was thinking about how it's strange how Christmas presents have changed over the years. When I was a kid, I wanted an NES (Nintendo) but most people didn't even know what that was and good luck getting your parents to buy a "Video Game"
but flashforward to today and everyone knows what a PlayStation, Xbox or Wii is and it's the most common gift parents get for their children.

Ball Jointed dolls will never be a common gift but the tradition of not getting kids what they really want has been around a long time XD

I posted a doll wishlist on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/yaisha/4139818046/) and I have a feeling my hubby might have gotten me everything on the list o__O I'm so lucky! I hope he likes all of the things I picked out for him.

All I can say is try to give the best and most thoughtful gifts you can to your family (because giving is just as much fun as getting!!) really figure out what they want and learn about their hobbies. (you can't really expect them to learn about your hobbies if you don't understand theirs) Maybe when they see how thoughtful you were they will want to return the favor in the future.

    13. My parents don't accept my hobby (not that they gripe about it, they just won't help support it) but they always give something practical to my husband and I for Christmas. (150 gallons of oil)
My husband just lets me pick out my own gift. This year it was a dollheart fukubukuro bag to outfit one of the three tinies I am going to buy.
Christmas gifts from relatives could be worse....my sister got a plant from an aunt once....and I once opened a card to find no check in it.

    14. I envy those of you whose loved ones will buy you doll stuff or give you doll money. My friends and family would never buy me even doll clothes/shoes let alone a full doll; they think it's a total waste of money  So I bought a doll for my own Christmas present.

Maybe I can convince someone to get me some nice doll clothes for my graduation present...?

    15. last christmas i had purchased my first doll a month before and i wanted to have another one so i asked my mother (she was buying my brother a computer for christmas, used but it cost $400) so i thought that it would be ok to ask for a doll. christmas came and i ended up getting $150 and a lecture on why dolls are a bad waste of money when my little brother ended up with a computer and 6 games.....which are apparently not waste of time, even though the computer was infected with tons of viruses a month later and be had broken his games because he left them on the floor.....silliness......but this christmas my boyfriend wanted to buy me a doll this year but couldn't since it wasn't in the budget but is getting me doll clothes as a halfway point ^^ i'm happy that he accepts and helps me with my hobbies!!!

i hope this wasn't too long or whiney XD

    16. I wouldn't ask for a doll for Christmas. I'd love to, it's what I really want, but I think my mom will freak enough when she sees him (eventually!!! *shakes fist) I don't dare let her know how much I'm paying. She hates my anime and cosplay hobbies so I'm sure that would go over swimmingly... >_>

I'm actually planning to buy myself a doll for Christmas. Resinsoul's released a new satyr that I want badly. The timing is right, I should have the funds, and the price is too good to pass up. I just wonder whether they'll freak anyway.

    17. It's not just parents.... hubbies, friends, etc. are all the same. They ask you what you want, but if it doesn't suit their idea of what to get you then they won't get it. It's always been that way. When I was a kid it took me forever to convince my parents to get me gift certificates to any of a list of stores that I liked instead of things like clothes i'll never wear.

These days I don't even bother asking for doll stuff... they'd never do it, and if they did it would be totally wrong (like i'd ask for a dollheart outfit, and wind up with a porcelain antique doll or something). It's not just dolls either... I told my fiance the only thing I wanted from him one year was a specific watch... yeah, that didn't work out right either... lol. :sweat

It's hard, but just try and remember that Christmas Hanukkah etc are not about getting what you want... it's about giving to others and spending time with friends and family. :aheartbea

(...and keep in mind that most stores have return policies... hehe) ;)

    18. I'm getting my first doll this Christmas. Since Dad moved out of the house and he doesn't support my hobbies, I'm actually getting what I truly want. ^___^ I'm really happy!

    19. I asked for a doll this year but it was met with "what do you want more silly dolls for??" :? No-one gets my doll collecting. My hubby accepts it, but doesn't like the $ side of it  My Mum thinks its completely ridiculous.

    20. My boyfriend/friends give me anime/loli stuff, since i'm an anime junky as well as embarking on the loli hobby ^^;;; Thus, i'm going to use my funds from tutoring my bro to get a doll this year ^^ *hopes everything turns out well*
