Dolls going off the wishlist

Aug 18, 2009

    1. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Every few months? some have stayed since my wishlist had been created.

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
I do add dolls onto my wishlist when a certain release comes up and I fall inlove at first sight. Usually sadly enough later on I do realize that I dont like them quite as much as when I had first saw them.

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
no... at least not yet, I did buy a doll once and realize I dont like it when it arrived though. Sometimes you dont realize how much you want the doll until it is physically there. The company pictures are sometimes rather deceiving...

    2. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Hmm... Pretty much irregular. I add them when I see them and want them. And still want them after a couple of days.

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
I might encounter a doll that fits even better for what I have/had in mind or I see RL pictures of a doll that reveal that the pics on the Official Homepage were tricking me into expecting something else.
That, or my taste might have changed into something else.
Or the obvious solution: I purchased my wish doll and it has arrived at home (I tend to leave them on the wishlist until they are M I N E) ;9

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?

      Yes, for reasons mentioned above.
Sometimes I just fall in love with a doll so much I rely only on the first few pics I saw. Before I buy I tend to check it out again thought and also look what other people made out of their doll. It's then that I might come to the conclusion 'This is not what I want/wanted' and decide against it.

    3. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
It is more often that dolls go on my wishlist then off and that happens quite often. ^w^
-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
This doesn't happen so often now. It happened more in the beginning when you haven't explored all the different molds just yet and discovered what you like.

But now, I haven't really been taking dolls off my wishlist. I like to mentally arrange more of an order of which of the molds that I want the most. But if a doll would go off the wishlist it could be that my taste just has changed ^^' Or that I like it but not that much anymore that I used to.
-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
No that hasn't happened yet. I like to be very certain before I buy a doll if I really want it, if I'm unsure then I wait until I know or buy another one on my wishlist that I'm very sure of. :)

    4. My wishlist fluctuates constantly.
Some days I'm perfectly content with my collection and sometimes I want to add like 8 new dolls.
Sometimes it's I see a new doll and feel the "ooh shiny" thing for a couple days or until I see owner pics then the want fades away but there are certain dolls than have been going on and off for years but just always seem to when I have the $ for one of them spend it on something else. I'm not really sure why :sweat I guess just even though I like those dolls a lot they aren't really a priority when it comes down to it.

    5. It's definitely a moving target. Sometimes they go off the list because they are no longer being made and/or impossible to track down. I just caught a glimpse of a Pipos doll and now I'm off on that tangent. I can sometimes appease my need just by looking at pictures until I get over the initial crush. I will not rush out to buy a Pipos and suspect the love affair will be fleeting. However, I do have an Iplehouse and a OasisDoll on my radar screen and these affairs are certainly more torrid and pictures only seem to fuel the need. I will only order a sculpt when I'm prepared to offer some form of commitment

    6. I have a three-part 'wishlist', of 1) wishlist, 2) maybe, maybe not, and 3) probably not. This way it keeps the fluctuation visible for me, for I find that if I remove dolls from my wishlist completely they end up being added again to it a few months or even years later. There was a reason I put them on it in the first place apparently:).
I also need the second and third part because I like pruning my collection a bit. I don't have unlimited space or money so I try to slow down the aquiring, but I still love those molds. So they end up in 'probably not' part of the list so I can re-check how I feel about them every once in a while and try to make an informed decision about who stays, who goes and who comes in.

    7. I typically try and look into dolls fully when I take an interest in them and before adding them to my wishlist, so they typically tend to stay. I think that comes from what almost happened when I was getting into the hobby and considering an AoD Rao as my first doll. Doing research on her I discovered that they'd put up no notices or changes when they switched face-up artists and modified the sculpt. I took Rao completely off my wishlist after that. While I'd still love to have one, it'd have to be the old sculpt.

The only other doll that got scrapped from my list was DoD's Arie. After seeing a couple owner pics I really don't think I like her nearly as much as I did after seeing her on the company's site. I might still want one eventually, but she's no longer one of my definites.

    8. For some reason, all my Delf wants, except for a Dreaming El, have gone off my wishlist and I couldn't tell you why. I just lost interested in the Delf aesthetic I suppose. I am also really loathe to put new dolls on the wishlist if I've just seen them for the first time; I have to let my brain decide if I'm just excited to see a new thing or if I really want it.

    9. Well, about 2 and a half years ago when I started with the hobby I saw a Peak's Woods Wake up Cue on a website and instantly fell in love with her. But I decided I wanted a smaller doll as first doll, a Msd doll.

She landed on my wishlist and meanwhile I had 6 other dolls but not her. There were various reasons: she is kinda pricey, she has a kinda bobble head, I didn't know you could buy her with layaway etc.

I planned her character as the girlfriend of my first SD13 male doll and mother of my first and only Yosd Doll: a Soom Lami (because I think he looks 100% perfect like a mix of Dollfamily Xiangyi and Peakswoods Wake up Cue.) I was pumped up about this 'cute' idea of a real doll 'family' ( a bit childish but anyway). I even planned a Littlefee Luna as twin sister for Tama (Soom Lami), but I neither ordered her.

      BUT.
Meanwhile I created this character Daphne and realized her as a Souldoll Madalyn hybrid. She was meant to be a crazy lesbian girl but ended up being a very cute girly girl.
Now SHE is the girlfriend of Misha (my Dollfamily Xiangyi).

      SO.
I took Cue from the wishlist. But then again I think she is my grail doll and I would regret it if she was sold out and I couldn't get her at all. So I think I should give her at least a try ?!

      :doh

    10. Can really relate to this. One doll I quite liked but decided not to get is being discontinued soon and im in such a fuss over getting him or not. I have enough dolls, but if I dont get him, I'm afraid im going to regret it.

Also, its not a popular mold/brand at all, so I fear i'll never get him if i dont purchase now, but am also afraid he's never going to sell if I dislike him.

    11. I have the "OMG WANT!" thought on a lot of dolls I see, especially when I see owner pics on the forums here. But that doesn't mean all of these dolls are really on my wishlist. At the moment my list contains 4-5 dolls and as far as I know me they will stay there and be purchased pretty soon. Sometimes it takes a little longer when I don't have the funds or a limited appears I have to buy immediately. But in the end they will all be mine^^ At least that's always been my collecting behaviour during the last years when it comes to My little Pony so it won't be much different with BJD :)

    12. Dolls tend to stay on my wishlist. Although sometimes I find a doll which is just perfect for a character then later down the line realise iv found one even better suited. Although there are a few dolls I have put on my wishlist a few times then taken them back off because Im just so undecided on if I want them seen as they don't fit any of my current characters

    13. It's only happened to me once, really. I looked at a doll on the Fairyland website and thought that she was the cutest thing ever! But when I looked at owner pics I didn't like her so much anymore.
Actually, it happened twice. Same exact thing happened. When I looked at some owner's pictures I didn't like her anymore.

    14. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
I add about one doll every few months to my wishlist, on average. Generally, once a doll is on the list, I rarely take it off. Before the limited editions became popular, my list was pretty steady - I'd add one doll every six months or so, and would never take any off the list.

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
Owner pictures/reviews. I tend to have a 'temporary' mental list of dolls that I'm interested in, but whose owner pictures are not yet available. Once such pictures show up, the doll either gets promoted to the wishlist, or bumped off. Only dolls that held my interest for a while make it to the official list on my profile page. Of course, when a limited is released, there's generally no time for lists - either buy it now or wait for another chance, which may or may not come. Those are special cases.

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
No. Once I'm set on buying a doll, I go through with it. But, like I mentioned above, I tend to take my time deciding on the doll (unless it's a limited), so by the time I'm ready to buy, I'm pretty set on it. I don't like buying newly released, but non-limited, dolls without seeing owner pictures/reviews first. There's enough gamble in the LE category as it is, so I tend to play it safe with the non-limited sculpts.

    15. What doll is it cyberspacegirl?

    16. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
      Fairly often.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
Change my mind on what features I like or change my mind on what character I want next.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
No. I don't really save. I kind of splurge gift money and stuff. But I can like go "I'm gonna get this doll" for like a year and then change my mind.

    17. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Dolls are added almost constantly but removed less often.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
If I find a doll that better suits the character, or the character is removed from the story.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
I started saving for a LUTS SDF Verna because her face is really nice but then I discovered that the new female SDF body is single jointed and the old one isn't nearly as attractive so she fell off the list.

    18. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
They go on my wishlist more frequently than they go off, I guess - especially if I'm in the midst of planning characters for a storyline.
-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
If I calm down from my character-planning and realize that hey, X and/or Y character aren't characters that I really need, I'm just getting them to have them, then I'll generally take them off the list. Especially if the money that would go toward that particular doll could be put toward one of my grail dolls. EDIT - Another reason that dolls have come off my list is because the company goes under or otherwise goes down the tubes.
-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
I actually haven't! I'm really bad with saving and I end up in and out of this hobby so often because I don't have much patience, but the dolls that I want have been on my wishlist for years at this point, so when I start saving up for one, it's guaranteed that I'm going to buy it.

    19. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Not often. I only put them on when i really want them.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
Knowing it will be impossible for me to get, or I'll swap it for another. I don't have room to get all of them.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
No, I really stick to my guns when I've picked one.

    20. This doesn't happen to me often, but when it does it's like a switch. I just decide something isn't working perfectly for me and that's it! I never want the doll again.
