Dolls going off the wishlist

Aug 18, 2009

    1. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
I am easily distracted by pretty things, so I end up liking a lot of sculpts. But not a lot of them actually make it to my wishlist. They have to be something that I know I absolutely want in my doll family before they even qualify to be on my list. The process is pretty... rigorous(?) that way, so not a lot of dolls get onto my wishlist. This also ensures that they won't have to go off my wishlist later on.

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
A doll will go off my wishlist if they do not fit in with the majority of my crew. My preferred facial features for dolls include chubby cheeks and big eyes. The sculpt has to have either or both for it to stay on my wishlist. The two sculpts I've removed from my wishlist had narrow/long faces and small eyes.

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
I've never really done this, so I can't say. :(

    2. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
when I first started in this hobby they were added on almost a daily basis, not nearly as much anymore though
-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?

not sure, sometimes I just don't see what I saw in it when I added it to my wishlist anymore
-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
      no

    3. I just recently removed all the dolls I had in my wishlist because I realised my tastes have changed...

    4. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
TnT Pretty frequently I'd say. Its usually a matter of infatuation I guess. If I see a sculpt I really like I will put it on my wishlist and let it sit for a while, deciding if its something I really want or something I just think is pretty at the time.

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
      I can't really justify potentially buying a sculpt if it doen't fit a character I already have or if I can't create a character for it before I commit to buying it. Needless to say a lot of sculpts I like are taken of the list because even though I like them I can't justify buying them if they have no pre-intended purpose. As much as i'd like to keep every doll on my wishlist, I have to give myself limits or else I'd just have too many dolls I don't really need and set unrealistic expectations for my wallet ;__;

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
;_; Actually yes. With my first doll who is on his way, originally I was set on a YoSD sculpt for him rather than an MSD, so I originally was saving up for that. About mid-way through saving I realized that he would be better suited for an immature MSD that way he would be more versatile as either a young child character or a preteen depending on how I decide to style him. He's a character that I don't envision at one specific age, so it feels more fitting to have this versatility.

      ---
Also as a side note, my tastes have changed a bit since I first discovered the hobby, so there are some dolls that have stayed and others who have left because of it. Fairyland is a good example. I use to hate Fairyland sculpts in the beginning, but now i've had a few Littlefees and a Minifee or two on my list that have stayed for quite a while.

    5. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Somewhat frequently. I tend to like something at first then it kinda "fades" over time and I change my mind, but then if it withstands the test of time so to speak then I know it's a doll I'm going to love. ^^

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
9 times out of 10 it's that I realize I either have no reason to purchase it (i.e. it doesn't have a character or the one it represents is disposable in regard to my photostories, so doesn't last long enough for me to actually get the doll) or I find a sculpt that works better for a character I had in mind than the one I first picked out.

    6. I actually just got done updating my wishlist XD and it's a lot shorter than it was before. As I was going through the list and looking at pictures for each doll I just stared at some of them and found that some I didn't like their head or their body or even both! I did save up money for a doll that I wanted for a few months and then when I had the money my heart just wasn't in it no more and I just fell out of love with the doll for some reason. I'm not sure why I just stared at him and just didn't want him anymore.

    7. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Pretty rarely. I put a lot of thought and planning into it before I add dolls to my wishlist, and my dolls are meant to go together cohesively as part of a set or pair, not just be any doll that I like. I've had a few manage to get on and then get culled though, when my wishlist became its longest at around 11 planned dolls and then I realized that even that would be too many for me to appreciate fully. I ended up taking away four dolls in total from my final plans, though I bought two of those dolls before realizing they weren't for me.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
If they were on my list in the first place, they must have fulfilled some kind of niche or role in a planned set. If I take it off the list, I might have found a way to combine its concept/role with another doll on the list or I decided I don't need dolls that fill that niche anymore. Keeping my collection small and manageable is important to me, so I'm often reconsidering my list to make sure that it has the absolute minimum of what I 'need'.

    8. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Rarely. I don't usually put dolls ON my wishlist for one thing. I'm usually buying limiteds because I need to get them during set periods of time, and they don't go on a wishlist because I never can tell when they are released. In nearly 10 years, I've only have a few dolls on my wishlist. One went off and one is still on.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
I had a Volks FCS on my wishlist. He went off because I got another Volks doll. It didn't quite take his place, but it was enough to make me think I didn't really need/want the wishlist doll as much. My tastes also shifted a bit... and other dolls caught my fancy much more.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Same as above... my tastes changed over the time I waited, and there were other dolls that more fit into my wants/wishes! It wasn't that I didn't like the original doll... I still like it. I just was putting my money elsewhere!

    9. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
They go on and off every day almost. Every time I look through tumblr, galleries and browse the company sites I find a doll I might want, so I write them up. Then I remove old dolls that's been there for long but whom I have lost interest in. Just recently I wiped my entire wishlist and started over again.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
I see more owner photos of them and find I don't like them as much. Or I just tire of the mold.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Not that I can remember, no :) I have indeed bought dolls though who I have figured out later I didn't like so much so I sold them again.

    10. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
I very rarely ADD a doll to my wishlist anymore since I made up the list of characters I needed to shell & found the dolls I wanted when I first started collecting. Basically if a new doll shows up (IH & Soom looking at YOU) I go over the Wishlist to see if the new one fits better than the one there.
-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
Its no longer available or I've found something better (as in newly released doll that fits my character better). Sometimes I've found dolls on the MP that fit better.
-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
      Never

    11. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
That depends on the list - I've got three: The Must Haves of which I know exactly who they'll be, the ones I'm considering for OCs but am not yet sure about, and the "possibly maybe" ones I like but don't have a character / plan for. For my "core crew" I've pretty much settled on sculpts (except for one OC who is playing hard to find), so those have been on the Must Have list for a year and aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The ones that go off are those on the "considering" and "possibly maybe" lists - the latter being not so much of a wishlist as a list of sculpts to remember because I like them and would probably like to get them at some point in the distant future when my main cast is home.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
The only reason for a doll to go off the "must have" list is (as people have mentioned already) finding a sculpt that fits the character better. That might be a new release or me getting more doll education (Simply Divine Alec kicked Iplehouse Dexter off the list this very week, but Dexter had it coming anyway because as much as I like the sculpts, EIDs are too big for me).

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Nope, and I can't imagine this happening. I think things through pretty thoroughly before I take the plunge and buy a doll, so if I go for one (especially one I had to save up for for a longer time) I'm sure I really want them.

    12. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Actually, not very often. I still love many of the dolls I added to my wishlist many years ago, and still consider buying them some day.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
When my taste changes. When I started in this hobby, I liked more dolls with big, "anime"-eyes and small lips. When I started to like more realistic dolls, the "anime"-types dropped from my wishlist one by one.. But well, there's still some exceptions, that's on my list even they're not "my type".

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
      No, i haven't.

    13. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?

Very infrequently. Some dolls stay on for years at a time.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?

It depends: as many people have said, sometimes one's taste changes. Other times, I've seen owner pictures, or seen something about the doll in person that made me decide that the doll is not for me.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?

Not exactly. While my wishlist itself is fairly stable, I don't think of it as a 'to do list' for saving. It's more a list of dolls that I admire and would like someday, but am not absolutely determined to own. Usually dolls will be struck from consideration when I get into number crunching, not after.

    14. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?

I do not have any on my wishlist currently. I think this is because I have found the perfect sculpt for the characters I want.

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?

Sometimes owner pics will change my mind. Also if I find a sculpt better suited to the character I have in mind.

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?

Sort of. I thought I had found one to suit my character but then after more searching and with a bit more knowledge I found one much more suited.

    15. I've liked quite a few dolls as seen on the company site. however I then go and look at owner photos and can't stand some feature they have. one doll passed the owner photo tests but my mom hated that particular doll, I wanted my mom involved in the doll hobby so I didn't get that one.

    16. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
I feel like I'm always re-arranging my wishlist. I add new dolls and take dolls off a lot... I feel like that makes me sound fickle, but I promise I'm not

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?

Usually I take a doll off my wishlist if I have found a different sculpt that fits the character better. Though usually, just because it is off the immediate "wishlist" it doesn't mean I've completely forgotten about that doll. They're still in the back of my mind... Sometimes I even make up a new character just so I can put a doll back on the wishlist.

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
No, this has never happened to me. Though I did buy a doll, have her come home and THEN decide she wasn't right. It turns out that at the time I couldn't handle having two pouty lati babies at the same time. My Lea was just not as special to me as my cookie, so off she went.

    17. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Not too horribly often. Once they make it there, they tend to stay there.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
I did recently clear out my wishlist quite a bit. While some of the dolls that I had on there were cute, my collection has gone in a different direction since they were put on there and I want to focus on dolls that I really want as opposed to all the ones that I would like to have (if that makes sense).

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Me save up for a doll? LOL! Most of the time I am all "I need to save up money for 'such and such doll'!" and then a limited comes along and steals all my savings. :sweat

So far I have gotten two of my wishlist dolls. (A Soom Hati thanks to the Free Choice Event, and a Delf Dark Elf Soo from the MP since they do not make her anymore). I have two that dolls that I would like to start actively saving for after I pay off a layaway, but we will have to see what happens.

    18. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?

Infrequently. Often they're there for a long time. And dolls I admire on the web when I see them much later I remember that I like them a lot even if I didn't put them on a list.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?

Sometimes I realize that while I admire a doll that it's not really practical or that it's a passing fancy. Sometimes I see a doll on my wishlist in person (this happened at Uncanny Dreams) and it looks different, less attractive, the nose is weird etc. It's tough because dolls can be made up and photographed in a way that really makes a sculpt shine but then you see a more stripped down version and it doesn't have the personality that you thought you saw in it. That's the danger of google images, someone might mod an uninteresting doll into the coolest thing imaginable. You need to try and be realistic about either the default face up or what you can do with it. Sometimes I realize that it isn't going to work out for a specific purpose, I just want to look at it. Sometimes I've been struck by a certain kind of beauty and then over time it hasn't held up, but that's rare.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?

Hmm...saving up....can you explain that concept to me?

    19. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Way too many times! I think my dollie wishlist changes 10 times before breakfast each day, haha. I've come to a point where the only dolls left on my wishlist are either super hard to find or expensive, or very low priority, even the new ones I discover.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
When I realize that I have a doll that's similar to it, or that I know, even for this amount of money, it will have no profound effect on me like the others. Sometimes though, the doll just loses the initial appeal it had, or I suddenly noticed a feature I do not like. And in rare occasions, if the doll comes from a certain company, and it's just not available secondhand. Price as well.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Yeah! It took me a little while to save up for an IOS doll, and when it finally came time that I could buy it, I kept hesitating. I examined every inch of his face and body to realize this doll wasn't what at all what I like in dolls, or fitting for the character. I ended up buying a completely different doll, and despite having the first one on my list for so long, I'm glad I held back.

    20. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
More often then I'd like. Some dolls are pretty solidly in there, others flicker on and off, and still others drop off, never to be seen again. It's pretty fluid in there.

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
I'm constantly looking at sculpts I'm thinking about buying, both on the official site and owner pics. Sometimes, I'll see an angle that highlights something I didn't notice before that I don't like.

Other times, it maybe I just don't find myself as in love with the sculpt as I used to be. There are other times I have a sculpt in mind for a particular character, but a new sculpt comes out that is much more suitable.

There's sculpts on my wishlist I'll probably never buy though I love them to pieces, like the IOS Lacrimosa. Though I think he's heart-achingly beautiful, he's 80cm, way too big too fit in my crew. There's tons of reasons.

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Yes. I was saving up for a Souldoll Ryu Cine, and then I saw owner pics of his profile. While I normally love a distinctive, proudly masculine nose, something about his didn't really do it for me in profile.
