Dolls going off the wishlist

Aug 18, 2009

    1. they just go ON my wishlist, they only go off of it when they're sold out. my very first loves were Dollzone Aleistar and Dollzone MO. Aleistar got sold out so he went off my wishlist but MO hasn't gotten sold out yet so he is still on my wishlist :)

    2. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
I have 2 wish lists in my mind - real and so-called one. In real I have 8-12 dolls that I'm going to buy. I'm just sure I'll buy them, maybe in 1 year, maybe in 7 years, these dolls are chosen carefully, so I rarely give up on them. So-called wishlist's dolls appear and disappear very often. It happens that one day I'm thinking "what a pretty doll, I hope to buy her" and the other "well... frankly speaking I don't like her nose/mounth/etc."

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
Owner's pictures break my dreams XDDD
Sometimes I just understand that this doll won't fit my family and that we won't be "friends". Also I see that "she is not that ideal as I saw her the first time". That happens rarely, though it does happen.

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Yes and no. It happened once, though I'm still thinking should I buy her or not

    3. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
A lot. I change it everyday to once a week.
-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
It's either too expensive or I just don't really want it anymore.. More of a 'impulse' want.
-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
      Yes.ish.
I've money but I keep going back and forth from what I actually want to buy. Some dolls I just don't really want anymore or there's another doll I want more.

    4. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
I actually don't remove dolls from my wish-list that much. I've found that the best way to discover whether I want the doll or not is to save up some money and then see if I'm really willing to part with it for said doll.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
When I honestly know that I'm not wanting the doll itself- only the chance to paint it, I get rid of it.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Yes. I almost bought an Elfdoll Sooah when I realized that she wasn't the doll I wanted. All that time I had been fawning over the Elfdoll Ryung. I was only going to get Sooah because Ryung wasn't on my wish-list, and that's when I realized that sticking to a wish-list so strictly wasn't for me. Now I put every doll I'm interested in on one list, and use the whole thing as a way to narrow down the choices of dolls I'm actually going to buy. I probably won't get anywhere near all of them, but it allows me to consider all the sculpts that I'm truly fond of.

    5. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Rarely. When I first got into the hobby I liked almost every single BJD I saw, but my tastes changed after having been here for a while.
Now I barely add dolls to my "to-die-for" list, preferring to look at their photos. Currently it includes 1 tiny and 2 SDs.
-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
Change of preferences mostly. Or seeing a photo where the doll is shown from a different perspective compared to those of the official dealer. E.g. I had a souldoll zenith boy on my mind for a while - until I saw that their head looked really tiny on the body and much better fitted their double body.
-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Yes. Once - when I realized that I didn't like MSDs anymore and wanted to change the size. I still love the mold, I just think that getting the one that would suit the crew would be more appropriate atm. I can still buy her later.

    6. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
I just started with this hobby 2 months ago, but I already have a wishlist. There are two dolls on it, that I didn't want to have as I first saw them, but then owner pictures changed my mind. It has also taken some time for me to "ignore" the wig and style of the doll in the company pictures and just see the face and what I can make with it.
-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
If the doll looks completely different on owner pictures or maybe just because I changed my mind or preferences.
-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Not so far, but I could imagine that it happens.

    7. Oh goodness, my wishlist changes every week. For example, my most recent wishlist was for two Minifees, a Chloe and a Shushu, but once Chloe arrived, I realized instantly that Minifees were not for me, so Shushu went off the wishlist. (And thanks to Fairyland's fantastic customer service, I was able to cancel my order for her and replace her with a Littlefee. :) ) For me, it's natural and expected to change my mind pretty much every day.

Like some others, I have two wishlists: The Might-Actually-Have One Day (Realistic) Wishlist, and the Dream Dollie Wishlist. The Dream Dollies will, realistically, probably never happen for whatever reason, usually cost or size. I adoreadoreadore Volks SD16 Pearl but she's just a huge doll with an equally huge pricetag that I'm not likely to ever want to pay up to have her. I also want a Fairy Skin Unoa Lusis, but again, she's very pricey and I don't like spending more than $400 or so for any one doll.

The Realistic Wishlist, however, changes a lot depending on my tastes that day. I've found I usually do end up obtaining any doll that stays on the Realistic Wishlist for more than a few weeks, and if it turns out to not be to my tastes, I sell it...usually a loss to myself. I should probably figure out a way to keep a more stable wishlist lest I end up losing all my money just finding out that I didn't really want the doll -that- much.

All that said, the Realistic Wishlist changes all the time, but the Dream Dollie Wishlist tends to stay the same because they're always out of reach for whatever reason. I rather enjoy staring at Pearl longingly, she gives me something to aspire toward if I ever become a fan of larger dolls.

    8. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Dolls are always finding their way on my wishlist, but rarely getting off... But then, I treat my wishlist as something I'd more or less like to have someday, rather than my "to buy" list, which is constantly being revised and edited as needed.

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
Off my wishlist, nothing. My "to buy" list? How much I have to spend, what's going on, financially, in my life, the availability of the doll, how much I want this doll versus another doll... Baring even that, which doll my girlfriend is getting next, and if I already have it's lover or I need to get it.

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Not so much, no. Usually, if for some reason I don't get the doll I'm saving for, it's because something happened that I have to spend money on. Like cars breaking down. Dolls do find their way off my wishlist from time to time, but that's more or less because the character just didn't make it past a few days after creation. Or for whatever reason, was scrapped.

    9. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Not really often since I dont have much time to `surf on the net` lately but when I do, I`m always finding new beauties to add to my already huge wishlist.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
Part of the face that bothers me, most of the time its about lips or nose. The other thing is a body shape, sometimes I just dont like it at all. I`m also really picky when it comes to hands, this is actually next thing after face that I`m looking at.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?

Not yet, thats probably because I`m quite new to the BJD hobby. I did removed some dolls from my wishlist while I was picking my first doll though. It was because I found dolls that I liked more than the ones I had there. I dont want my BJD family to be huge so I need to pick them carefully.

    10. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?

Not really frequently, even though I have a nice growing list :D So far, the only doll I've taken off my WL is souldoll's Kagel.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?

When Kagel went off, it was because after a while of not looking at him I came back to find that he didn't really fit the character I had in mind. He's very nice and he might fit another of my ideas, so I haven't ruled him off completely.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?

Not exactly. Once, I did find myself saving to get a centaur Chiron, but he's pretty expensive and decided against buying him for a while. I ended up getting Yue (DZ Asura) instead, and I'm very happy about it :D

    11. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
I have two lists: the may-get-on-wishlist "waiting list", and the actual want-to-buy-one-day wishlist. The waiting list is in constant flux, the threshing floor where I separate out the must-have gems from the just-pretty chaff. In fact, I realize that out of 10 sculpts on the waiting list, 9 of them I just like looking at owners' photos, and don't really want to own them. But for that 1 special sculpt, if I keep looking at it and keep thinking "I don't just want to look at photos, I WANT THAT DOLL!", then it goes on the real wishlist. My wishlist is pretty stable, but even then those dolls must stand the test of time and resist being replaced by other sculpts. Some dolls on my wishlist have been there for more than a year... but if they're not there by the time I have money and motivation to buy more resin, well, I won't waste time missing them and someone else will come home instead!

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
The attrition of time, usually. Most of the time, my desire for the sculpt is satisfied by owner photos, and it never makes the real wishlist. But those that go on the real wishlist, and then fall off... well, I guess I didn't want it that much after all. *shrug* Not having a lot of money to burn really helps winnow those "close-but-no-cigar" sculpts from my real dream dolls. For example, I've axed a LOT of male dolls from my wishlist -- now I want only one boy, Dollstown Mui. He's been on the wishlist for a year and shows no sign of leaving, so I'm certain he'll come home eventually. (But time will tell!) Similarly, I've wanted Pipos Robin ever since I laid eyes on it. Robin is currently experiencing competition from MisticUnicorn's Howl the Wolf anthro... again time will tell whether I want Howl or Robin more!

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
No - mostly because I had enough savings to buy all my dolls on the spot without needing to save too much beforehand. I did buy a doll, bring him home, then dropped my plans for his character shortly afterwards (and I'm now selling him) -- but that wasn't because I stopped liking the sculpt.

    12. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Recently all they've been doing is coming onto my wishlist, which is totally dangerous ground to tread since I don't have money for all of them right now. I'm a firm believer of things in moderation, but dang it, I don't think I'll be able to contain not having them all with me now. :P

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
Before I purchase or place a doll on my wishlist, I like to browse around looking at what other people do with their dolls. This can be a good and a bad thing. If I see that a certain doll I want can't take on diverse looks, then I know that it's not the doll for me. I'm a person that likes to change her mind a lot anyway, and I'd like to do that with my dolls. That's the reason why I love BJDs; they're versatile, but some more than others. :P

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Yes, this recently happened to me. Not even two days ago, to be exact. It was all pretty saddening, to be honest. Hehe. I've been planning this doll for about a year. I felt that this doll was the one I wanted. But I started looking around for the doll on the forum and I realised that his head looked rather strange from the chin to the back of his head. It also didn't help when I noticed that the doll had pretty much the same look apart from two. Something about it just didn't set it apart anymore. I don't know what it was... I think it's just one of those things, almost like intuition, that tells you not to get a certain doll or what-have-you.

    13. My list is constantly in flux, I want I want I want! And then I don't.

    14. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Surprisingly not as often as you'd think. I do change it around by adding a doll or removing every other week at absolute maximum. But most of the dolls on my wishlist are pretty consistent.

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
I guess if I realize the doll isn't as pretty as I had originally seen it as, I remove it. The price is a factor but usually if the doll is really expensive I won't have it on my list anyway.

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Nope, I haven't experienced this yet!

    15. How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
I add to my wishlist far more than I remove, but I usually add a doll every couple of months. Some dolls also have higher priority than others.

What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
Usually owner pictures help me make the final call. A Ringdoll Frankenstein was one of my grails, but I bought a sold-out LE on the MP before it was released, and couldn't buy it. When I saw owner pictures, and several go up on the MP, I realized that it just wasn't for me. So off the wishlist it goes. Also, when I first started looking at BJDs I had slightly different tastes than I do now, so some were removed from the wishlist because I "honed" my BJD interests.

Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Definitely! I saved up for that RD Frankenstein, and then other dolls became higher priority. So I guess you could say I didn't like it as much anymore.

    16. A doll has come off my wishlist a few times. I've only ever taken a doll off of my wishlist because I've looked around and found a doll that is much more suitable for the character I want to shell out.

Most recently, a doll that had been on my wishlist since I first decided to go into this hobby was scratched off my wishlist. Luts Annette was the first doll that had ever caught my eye, and she was going to be my first before I decided to start off with a male doll. However, a couple a weeks ago, I decided to replace her with a Dollzone Gretta, since Gretta has a much more suitable face than Annette.

    17. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
It kind of depends on the doll market and what sort of new releases are out there or what owner pics I see of older dolls. But as for how often they come off the wishlist... I'd say not very often. But whne it happens usually I take a lot of them off.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?

This often happens when I get a doll that I absolutely adore. It kind of throws everything into perspective and sometimes wipes my entire wishlist clean.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
I don't think this has ever happened to me. I"ve had funds available and changed my mind multiple times about what I was planning to buy with it, but I don't believe I've ever saved up for a specific doll and then changed my mind before buying it.

    18. Fun topic! :D

How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?
Frequently! Not as much anymore now that I've gotten most of the dolls I want. But still fairly often I'll slap up another wish list doll and than take them down again.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?
For me a doll goes off my wish list for two reasons.
One is that I totally forget who the doll is! If I can't right away remember which doll it is Bam, off they go.
The second reason is if I find a different doll that better represents what I am looking for. Like I switched a Llongsoul SD doll for a Dreamingdoll MSD. Cost, better body looks and filling two wants in one.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?
Yes it has. I'd see a doll and Love it. Think of what I could do with that doll and than sorta realized that as fun as it would be. I didn't need that concept as a doll. Often that sort of doll sits on my back burner in my mind so who knows, I might just re-list them one day. I'd just need a better reason to get them.

    19. I have a big PowerPoint wishlist with pictures of my dolls and their size details. Periodically (okay, like almost daily) I go through it, and a lot of times a doll I thought was stunning earlier in the week looks kinda boring after a couple of days of reflection. Also, if a doll has been out of stock every time I check back, so it's pretty obvious she's been discontinued, I take her out of the list. Except for my grail doll, I hope that I can find her in the Marketplace when I have both money and access.

    20. -How often do dolls go on and off your wishlist?

Very, very rarely. My list has been virtually static for the past several years; I just haven't seen much in the way of new sculpts that I think are more appealing than the ones I've been planning for prior to this.

-What makes a doll go off your wishlist?

Usually it's me going 'do I have any real purpose for this doll or am I only getting it because I think it's cute'. If the doll has a purpose -- a character it will fit, or in the case of one of my grails just an overwhelming I WANT THAT SO BAD -- then it stays. If it's a passing fancy, it goes. My wishlist is all of four dolls long, and only one of those has changed recently...and to be honest, it was less a change of doll and more a 'I might as well admit I want this one mold for this character and stop trying to fill it in with easier-to-find or less-expensive molds'.

-Have you ever saved up for a doll and then decided (before you bought it) that you didn't like it as much anymore? What was the reason for this?

Nope. I don't save unless I am damn sure I want that doll. It takes me too long to save up to not be very sure before I pull the trigger.
