1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dolls inspired by Artists

Jun 1, 2022

    1. I wanted to know if anyone here made dolls inspired by a particular artist works, it could really be any artist. I think something like a doll inspired by Picaso or Salvador Dali or modern artist would be nice to see.

For a while i was thinking it would awesome to make some dolls inspired by the art of bwusagi or saccstry so even these kind of artist would be alright. Makeup artist are fine too.

    2. Working on a Dali inspired custom of a Dragetarr Salvador right now. I actually won one of the dolls for my concept, just gotta bring him to life now.

    3. I had this idea myself awhile back! That is, to paint a doll in the style of a certain artist.
I wouldn't try it myself but I considered commissioning it if I found a face-up artist who was willing.
Imagine a face-up in the style and colors of Matisse, Toulouse-Lautrec, or Van Gogh for example.

    4. I have a doll inspired by Takato Yamamoto's art.

Here's what I sent the faceup artist, Dollfaced, for inspiration:

And here's how I've been styling him:

    5. @Astro , great job! Love the outfit too.

Actually, I remember when I ordered my Maskcat Gladys I already thought she looked like a Mark Ryden girl, so I asked the company to paint her that way.

    6. I was also thinking of doing or getting a faceup inspired by some of the artists on the show Glow up on Netflix and maybe even Syfy's Face off. So many amazing looks on these shows would look awesome on a doll.

    7. I haven't done any art-inspired faceups but now I really want to, that's such a cool idea! I'm working on an art history major right now in college and MAN there's so many artists and art movements both historical and contemporary that would make really interesting bases for a doll. I think I've seen some people give their dolls lines along the various contours in the sculpts to make them look like brushstrokes or like comic book art before, it always looks so cool!!

One of my favourite paintings is Fallen Angel by Alexandre Cabanel and I can picture a doll based off it so clearly now - a very buff and very angry doll with a little tear at his eye... Can't stop thinking about it now lol time to put another idea on the "doll ideas" list

    8. Ooh, it's such a fascinating idea. I love everyone's take on it. There's a Chinese artist doll that already looks like it came from an old European painting, and it would lend itself well to artistic nudes.

Also, it would be interesting to see a doll in Junko Mizuno's style, though I think it could require serious modding, and I'm not entirely sure that some of her signature features are even possible in doll form. But Jasmine Becket-Griffith's girls would be entirely possible to recreate, and my morbid side just imagined a harakiri girl by Shintarou Kago. :XD: There are so many ideas and so little space for dolls.

Takato Yamamoto is one of my favourite artists! And he really looks like he came from one of his paintings. :D

    9. Thinking about making a doll based on a artwork of Van Gogh...I've also been thinking about making bjd's based on or inspired by figures. I've been looking at figures a lot recently and for the non-bjd figures i think some of them would look neat as a bjd. And since this is art-related, i was thinking bjd's with Grime art would look interesting too.

    10. I would die for a gritty robot BJD made in the style of Tsutomu Nihei. Closest I found is Dlace's work.
