Dolls of all colors.

Jul 4, 2012

    1. All three of my girls are normal skin. Since I bought two of my girls second-hand, I had to stick to normal skin because that's what they were. I don't think that Tiffee was ever made in white skin, since that was a limited skin tone when she was manufactured.

I used to say I would never get a white skinned doll because I often find that white skin can be so pale that it doesn't look natural and I also love to take photos outside so yellowing was a concern. But I'm waiting for a WS Bobobie Bao right now, so look how that turned out!

    2. i just like pale looking dolls, i think my love of classic clothing like period dresses or gothic/lolita look lean me more towards the whiter skin, i like the contrast

    3. I pick based on the character I want for the doll. What backstory do they have? Will it match if I make them a family with other dolls? What nationality are they?

Those sorts of things. That's for the characters i have planned out beforehand...

Then I have my ice cream themed dollies. Those are ones I buy cheaply off the second hand market and build character based on their face mold and skin colour. If it's a dark brown I'd go with chocolate, if it's white then I'll have a look at ice creams that are white in base - like vanilla or straciatella.

I love dolls of all colours really, fantasy colours make me a bit nervous because they aren't natural, but they are so lovely all the same :)

    4. It really just depends on the character or which is easier to work around with-
The doll I'm currently waiting for is NYS because I didn't want to worry about the resin yellowing too fast, because he really wasn't planned out :sweat

But I'm planning on getting a white and a dark tone/tan doll because of my existing characters design c: One because of his background and the other because of ethnicity.

And even though I haven't worked with tan dolls before I like them best c:

    5. Most of my dolls are tan-colored or dark brown. I've been collecting dolls for a long time & it's always hardest to find dolls who look like they could be me or a member of my family, so when I have the option for a skin tone, those are the ones I go with.

    6. I like tan skin. So most of my dolls are tan, only a few of them are natural skins. And none of them are white skin.

    7. nothing in particular makes me choose one color over another for dolls, just if I like that certain doll in that certain color.
Right now I have a pureskin but her twin will be tan, it just depends on the particular doll for me (nothing to do with their character though).

    8. I looooove tan skin dolls. I wanted a tan doll to start because I wanted her to be able to reflect a range of...I don't know if ethnicity is right, because she's a fantasy character, but I wanted her to be able to represent many different kinds of beings. White skin seemed too limiting to her character. Also, she's an earthy type of spirit, so it seemed like she'd be tanned and earthy-looking herself. I love how she came out because she's herself, but I originally intended for her character to be darker. (I still wish that BBB had a tan option that was somewhere between their dark tan and light tan. That would be perfect.)

Then I decided that I wanted a doll to be my girl's consort, and to create a family unit, and I wanted to create a character that was a take on artwork I've collected of Shiva portrayed as a god with blue skin. Bobobie has a blue skin option that will be perfect, and that makes me gleeful. For their little daughter, I chose a lighter blue resin, because she's a mix between her faerie mama's pale tan and her dad's dark blue. I'm glad that I had the option to get them all in their various skin tones from the same company, because their sculpts will all match so well.

I know the next two dolls I'll be getting after my fantasy family project is done will be white, because they're not going to be available in any other color (but they're unicorn anthros, so it fits). I'll just have to be so much more careful about getting them dirty...:sweat

    9. My first will be tan because I like the color and the Soom Xmas event took the premium off. Her character is growing to suit that skin color. In the future I want to have at least one of the RS Pixius and want them in fantasy colors to suit that. They just look odd to me in human colors. So my Pixiu will be sky blue. Most of my dolls will probably be NS just because its the most common, but I want to have a range of skin tones. I don't like the white skin because it looks unnatural, and the idea of yellowing puts me off.

    10. White skin is my favorite!

    11. I actually never thought about this before but most of my dolls are white skin, the rest are mainly normal skin (although I do wish I owned a lot more tan dolls sometimes, just can't find sculpts I like in the resin color I prefer) and thing is... I'm very pale myself, as in I make people with more "regular" white skin look suntanned in comparison to me when they're not so it might have something to do with that; the fact I'm inclined to pick WS over NS when given the choice... of course usually it depends on the character the doll is meant to represent too...

    12. My first doll was supposed to be "tan", but when he arrived, he was not. I didn't haven't a camera that would take a decent picture to show the seller that he wasn't tan, and I didn't want to wait two months to send him back and wait for a tan doll, especially considering he was my first. My next two dolls were ordered NS, and my fourth was ordered and received tan. I like dark "tans" the best, but I like looking at other's white skin dolls. Pink seems to give off a healthy glow, too. I like the variations of resin colors, but I don't like when "tan" varies from a darker "white" skin tone, to an actual tan, to brown skin. This one word is supposed to describe colors that it just doesn't describe.

And this is going off on a tangent, but the lightest of my Asian friends are both lighter and whiter than any of my "white" friends could ever be. I know it's a bad term to use, but "white" people sometimes tend to be a lot more "yellow" than your average Asian. At this point, I really can't understand why these colors are still being applied to people when we're all on the same color spectrum (yellow-brown; the red comes from your blood, people).

    13. Originally all my dolls were NS and I was hesitant to try new colours due to fear of greening or improper yellowing. Now I don't really mind different skin colours as long as the sculpt reflects the character I'm trying to create. I currently own, purple, white, normal, pink and tanned skinned dolls. It's fun to see them all together. c:

    14. I choose the resin color based on what looks nicest and what I already have and to a lesser extent, the idea I have in mind. It usually starts by falling in love with a sculpt and then deciding what I want to do with it. I don't have OCs, but I do on occasion decide that I want a certain look. I like variety so I'm likely to try a different resin color each time I order from the same company, but I lean toward normal skin and more specifically normal-pink. I like tan, but I tend to avoid it because it sometimes puts the doll out of my price range and I feel like it's hit or miss on whether I'll like it or not. I also avoid ws, just because it's usually too pale for my tastes, but I just took a chance and ordered a "normal white" by Dikadoll. I heard it was like a pale normal-pink. XD I'll probably never order a fantasy color, because I think I would have a harder time bonding with it, but I love seeing what others do with them.

    15. i love the tan and darken resin tones as most of my characters are african american

    16. Most of my dolls are pale or have a lighter skin tone. White skin is my fave. :)
I've recently fallen in love with a tan Lishe, but I don't pretend to buy one (at least for now) because I'm very concerned about greening D:
As to the fantasy colors, I'm not really interested once I don't have any character that fits.

    17. It really depends on character, but also how well the colour goes with the wig, eyes and such it can be hard to find coordinating wigs and eyes for some shades like blue, red & green.

    18. All my dolls so far came in NS but I'm inclined to buy in light tan or Real skin (in Iplehouse's case) because those colors look so much better in the photos, and bring out the eyes. I've been meaning to buy a doll with an African look, in ebony color.

    19. I normally choose by face-up, really, unless I have a specific character in mind. But for the most part I seem to have a preference for white skin. I just find it prettier. Although I love tan skin too. :aheartbea

    20. I just like the way white resin looks, and it turns out it's more practical in a lot of ways. I've heard about the different colors fading or even turning green. With white resin all you have to worry about is yellowing, and I'm fine with that.
I love the paper white look of RS,but the problem with that is I don't think it's going to look good with a black wig. That makes me wish I'd gone for a more realistic color.
