1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dolls Portraying a Message

Feb 22, 2010

    1. My best friend and I both have male dolls and decided they would make good lovers. From that, we've created an entire story about them and there are so many messages! Our dolls help us express to others the importance of equality and more. :)

    2. I'm very much a believer in the personal is political (political does not mean only what happens in government). While I don't have particular causes I'm putting out there, I think there are messages in pretty much everything, and I don't think it's preachy to bring up a cause in a photostory/with the creation of a doll. If you were spamming people's PM inboxes, that'd be a problem. But creating a doll or having your dolls represent your beliefs is a perfectly valid form of communication IMO.

I have male/male couples, and the story they come from has an anti-corporate theme, but also it's a world where no one thinks twice about same sex couples anymore. In another storyline I have a character reincarnated from a Kermode bear, an endangered species in my province. I chose these things because of my politics; I don't think at this point they come through in portrayals of my dolls at all, though.

    3. I agree 500% with this - all of my dolls are named after the many illnesses and diseases I have.

My first ever bjd, I named after my pacemaker - I even made her look the same - shiny, beautiful, slender, caring, and titanium coloured hair (the same colour of the metal used)

She is so special to me and she has a special meaning I am getting across. Rather than just buying a doll and me calling it 'Adam', the doll holds a special quality and is much more personal :D

My other dolls are named after illnesses themselves like, my heart condition etc. I would LOVE to find a wheelchair or make one, I am unable to walk most of the time.

I think naming your dolls, or representing them as something to be remembered, is a beautiful idea because it makes you love them so much more! :)

    4. I wonder if, as a BJD community, we can try to do something to create awareness about something?

Maybe we can do some kind of big photo-themed game thread about a cause most BJD owners have strong positions on?

It would be really interesting to see us come together in a creative way for a cause.

    5. My dolls portraying messages? Hmm....
Azure - I like feminine men
Zariel - I like shota demons
      Stan - I'm a ghost nerd
Snow - I like Silent Hill a bit too much
Christopher - Blonde hair/ blue eye prince fetish
Sebastian/Ciel - ....i think that says it all.

:D Sorry~ Had to input some humor.

    6. I think it could be an interesting idea for an art display, but I don't really do this with my dolls... Some of them do or believe in things I also do or believe in, and other do or believe in things I am against. Some of my dolls are criminals for reasons I think people should be criminals. heh

They are all based on character, and the characters are sometimes based on things I do not agree with for the sake of exploring them. The dolls that do believe in or do things I feel strongly about, I would probably not use to make a point with perhaps one exception. For example, I am pro same-sex marriage, and some (make that several) of my doll characters are homosexual. One of them is married. However, none of them are examples of decent relationships. I would not use them to make a point for anything.
The possible exception to this is Tuesday, my Spiritdoll boy. His character is of a shy, kind, young man who happens to have asperger's syndrome. Tuesday has difficulties related to asperger's, but he is high functioning enough to care for himself and does not go to any kind of therapy.
I know I invented Tuesday with my own personal views of high functioning autism and autism therapy in mind. I don't think I would actually use Tuesday to make a point, but this is the closest I come to doing that.

    7. I do this. I'm a Jehovah's Witness and ALL of my dolls characters are also this religion. I have them all as extremely active preachers. Part of the reason why I wanted bjd's was so I could create dolls with these qualities.
